I don't hate on WAR, and i'm not addicted to any other MMO at the moment, but I am very disappointed at the direction the devs are taking WAR. I feel like they had all these great ideas and then in every development meeting there was some high up sitting there saying 'That's great now how can we make that work more like WoW?'
Every bit of information i've gathered from following the game shows me that they are taking their original ideas and dumbing them down, taking the gameplay mechanics from DaOC and dumbing them down, taking the WAR franchise and dumbing it down, and taking character designs and graphic goals and dumbing them down. These things make me sad as I couldn't stand WoW for more than three weeks due to the fact of it basically being a connect the dots color book.
There are probably going to be lot's of stuff that won't be of satisfactory in WAR. On the other hand there will be many things which are going to really fun. What it all boils to is that the positive things must overweight the negative ones, for a player to stay. No game is perfect. Unless it's a very old one, you don't play it anymore, only thing you have of it is pure nostalgia.
Just to make an example. Ofc I will take our mmo monster WoW. Just reading the forums there tell me many gamers are disappointed with various game mechanics. Perhaps same person can make 10 different whine topics. Guess what, at the end of the day he won't cancel subscription if positive>negative.
1- The marketing of the game "wants it", see, loves it, hate it, but please don't be indifferent. I am working against the clock to maintain my "hate level", it is fading and going away.
2- Warhammer fans and DAoC fans are very different and expect very different things. GBT fans on 1 side, where the experience is always around very few players...and Real Time RvR maniacs. Hard to please both side, and the devs pick their DAoC fans, completely.
3- The total lack of willingness to please other game style...you must WAR! Oh well.
Anyway, if you will excuse me, I am done for the month me think. I find it tedious to even check it out now. There is nothing to hope for, no reasons to bother.

Warhammer is getting the hate because most of the people don't know anything else beyond their current MMO. Take for example, World of Warcraft. With 8 million + subscribers, there are bound to be quite a few that have never played an MMO before, let alone even heard of one. Part of the hate can also be attributed to the fanboy.
WoW is a good game, but is it the best? In sales and subscriptions; yes. Does that make it the best? Not necessarily. Best is a matter of perspective. I think DDO is a better game, in terms of gameplay and the "fun" factor. However, when you look at it from the perspective of content and keeping someone entertained, WoW is alot better. The lure of WoW is its simplicity and ease of learning. However, that is also its downfall. A game can be so easy to learn, that it gets boring after a while.
I will give WAR a shot once it comes out, or hopefully earlier. I enjoy PvP. WoW PvP is fun, but gets old. Arenas are not fun. I don't consider them REAL PvP. I've always preferred larger scale PvP, as opposed to the small scale that the Arenas are.

Unfortunately not so many people see things like that.Like another poster said most of the 8 million playing know only WoW and they will assume that WAR is a WoW rip off.I think that EAMythic is on the right path with WAR.They have been able to remove or change some boring aspect in MMO gameplay(just an assumption if I refer to the articles and footage available).So we will have to wait until October to know.

I think you put it best when you use the word 'standard'. Like every other thing that has popular acclaim, that is effective and useful, it eventually becomes standard after having a brief start as an innovative idea. People don't understand that whatever originality they think exists isn't gonna suddenly pop up out of nowhere.

Pretty much the ones who state its a WoW clone are people who have no understanding of either of the two games. and my guess is they are one of the childish players of WoW, and they feel threatned that WARHAMMER will give WoW a run for its money, and steal alot of their subcribers.. and you know what.. they should be worried.. Skill is being able to do something most can't in higher degrees of mastery, I didn't see any skill in the current combat system. You really do just run up to the mob, hit your abilities/auto attack, wait for refresh, rinse/repeat. If I'm failing to recognize some innovation of their combat system that requiers skills, *please* point it out to me.
The engine, UI, combat, and PvP contains almost nothing to absolutely nothing new. What's left is the story, which out of the warhammer universes they could have selected to make into an MMO, is the closest to cookie cutter as possible. There's factions... PvP... you fight for a nation... there's big battles... yeah, I get it, but there's just nothing there that makes me care about the game.
doesnt really matter though.. because 1 think WAR has on their side that will make them as or more successful as wOw is or ever could hope to be..

and yes having combo skills where you attempt multiple actions is alot more skill involved because it depends on which order and what types of abilites you use, the combos are unlimited and ever damage factor outcome is different! Unlike Cast Fire, then after the spell charges and complete then u click Ice or whatever WoW has. Imagine Clicking and attack icon Followed by a parry defence block, then a finishing ability within a matter of seconds.. alot of faced paced action, in real time actions. i wasnt being official on the explanation i was just making an example of the different types of Combat systems.. because 1 single action click and do 1 ability is less skill than having to pare 1 skill up with 3 following abilites in the amount of time it takes wow to do 1 ability! ill gurantee a WoW Driven pvp player wouldnt last in pvp against an old Vet of DAOC PVP.. dang ill even bet 2 WoW players couldnt handle one of them.. because WoW myfriend isnt PvP.. now when you play a Mmorpg where ur constantly taking on 5v1 or 6v1 in seiges or whatnot constantly and still coming out with a victory (DAOC RVR).. that called skill..
Mythic Entertainment has won several PvP awards with their famouse RVR pvp and their combat systems with DAOC it makes WoW look like The Sims! with people running around crying because they cant beat Twinks when they gang up on the 4v1!
lol that does give me an idea though.. i think it would be Pretty good.. let Blizzard and Mythic Team up to make a Mmorpg where it can be Warhammer Vs Warcraft.. where the alliance and the horde team up as they did in the original Warcraft times to battle their foes and have it wher eu can choose Warcraft toons, WAR Toons, and battle it out for the sake of Pure PvP.. (cept its gotta have Mythics PVP system or itll suck)

Do you think that WoW is the first MMORPG in the world? Its exactly the same with WoW - nothing new. I has started playing WoW 2 times for total over 1 year. First time it was from open beta up to 2 months after release. WoW have been released very polished but have many uncompleated and unavailable features (PvP in general). Every aspect of WoW was something simplified old - nothing new in general even worst - zoned world, very linear gampley, joke crafting system. After TBC I come back to play with friends, so I give WoW second chance for 10 months. For that period of time I have gone through most of the Raid content (up to SSC and VR) and get top 20 Arena team. That was most boring MMO period of time for me. The only thing that keep me there so long was the Arena. After thinking again about WoW now I realize that preTBC was not so bad compared with TBC. Dont know why Blizzard forgot about the few of the "nice" features in WoW. It looks that Blizzard make gameplay even more linear compared to pre TBC (similar to most korean grindfest MMO's) because casual players like simplified linear gameplay. That's what EA realized also. Warhammer goes in that direction and even goes further - he have a nice RvR in contrast to WoW where everything is predefined and static and the only different thing that happen is some periodic nerf or buf for every class (as Blizzard name it balance redesign) - I do not count the new content that is "something new from tha same". I personaly do not like that direction of both WoW and WAR but think WAR will be "the better game" (at least because Mythic are already very experianced MMORPG developers)
PS: I'm in WAR beta from more than a month and can say its much more fun and dynamic gameplay than WoW even in that beta stage.

If in Dark Age you win a 5v1 fight (did you mean 5:1, as in ratio...? I'm going to assume not because that's not what you said means) it's because of gear/spec, neither of which are skill in the sense I am speaking. I'm talking about micro, physical dexterity and the ability to think fast and react to the situation. The "combo" you're talking about exists in about any MMO in a form, you do the same thing in WoW, you hit a button to cause a debuff/opening, hit another to do a set up/stun, then one more to do a finisher. How is that different in WAR, because I don't see it. Really in about any MMO you have plenty of time to react and cue up abilities, it's far from difficult as far a dexterity and reaction time goes. If you're referring to active combat, I'm going to refer you to Age of Conan, because that's what they're trying to do. Even over meriting WAR's combat system, it looks 1/10 as active as Conans, and I'm not saying it'll be a better game because of it, it's just a good example of something that takes "skill" to perform in.
Gear, spec, and ability chains do not denote skill, they denote time. The only thing I would think would requier ANY sort of practice (skill = something hard enough to merit practice) is knowing what situations to use them in, and that's called experience, another factor related to time played and not skill. Really, don't tell me hitting 3-4 buttons with proper timing needs any sort of skill at all.

I could give you a much better list of features where WoW copied AC2 completely.
Just remove 2 fightning factions and make it three instead and add these common features to your list.

Tons of solo quests, no more group content is needed to do to hit max level
Absolutely same interface that no other games used before until WoW came out. AC2 had it 6 years ago.
AC2 and then WoW were first two games with almost no character customization at creation screen apart from the appearance.
Almost no XP death penalty. First AC2 then WoW chosed the model of having no xp death penalty. It was quite common at that time to have xp death penalties.
World divided into zones with a few exits. Each zone could be hostile for you(and be attackable by enemy faction) or peaceful. On PvE servers you could be pvp/pve flagged.

If you are telling the truth that ALL aspects I listed above are in AC2 then I will accept that WoW copied AC2. I have no love for WoW. I never played AC2 or even heard about it at the time - I was happily into SWG and was not interested in AC2 or anyother MMORPG - I was so happy I never even glanced at any other MMORPG or cared what they did. By the time AC2 failed it never even appeared on my radar. It would seem that SWG was released around a month later than AC2 and died around a month earlier.
However, I will suggest that your list of features is just a rewording of mine.
Also, by your post are you suggesting that Mythic has never even heard of WoW and their 14 million strong playerbase and is copying AC2 even tho it is a failed game?

Unfortunately not so many people see things like that.Like another poster said most of the 8 million playing know only WoW and they will assume that WAR is a WoW rip off.I think that EAMythic is on the right path with WAR.They have been able to remove or change some boring aspect in MMO gameplay(just an assumption if I refer to the articles and footage available).So we will have to wait until October to know.

I think you put it best when you use the word 'standard'. Like every other thing that has popular acclaim, that is effective and useful, it eventually becomes standard after having a brief start as an innovative idea. People don't understand that whatever originality they think exists isn't gonna suddenly pop up out of nowhere.

i keep hearing people say their cloning WoW, and you know what the funny thing is.. if im not mistake hasnt Warhammer been out alot longer than Warcraft has..
Pretty much the ones who state its a WoW clone are people who have no understanding of either of the two games. and my guess is they are one of the childish players of WoW, and they feel threatned that WARHAMMER will give WoW a run for its money, and steal alot of their subcribers.. and you know what.. they should be worried.. Even if you wanna call it a clone of WoW goahead ill let ya get away with that.. because you know what.. every good game had to start with a Rough Draft meaning that with WoW.. and Warhammer would be the ultimate Finished project! but it isnt a clone.. the Combat System requires something that WoW players never heard of.. thats called Skill. anyone can run up to a mob and Click attack and/or spell. but when your able to do it with a chain of other abilites in a sequence then you can call urself a real Skilled Mmorpger..

... So you're telling me that clicking 3 buttons in a row is somehow a massive leap from clicking one? I've watched whatever videos they've released so far and it's nothing new. Skill is being able to do something most can't in higher degrees of mastery, I didn't see any skill in the current combat system. You really do just run up to the mob, hit your abilities/auto attack, wait for refresh, rinse/repeat. If I'm failing to recognize some innovation of their combat system that requiers skills, *please* point it out to me.
The engine, UI, combat, and PvP contains almost nothing to absolutely nothing new. What's left is the story, which out of the warhammer universes they could have selected to make into an MMO, is the closest to cookie cutter as possible. There's factions... PvP... you fight for a nation... there's big battles... yeah, I get it, but there's just nothing there that makes me care about the game.

let me ask you this, does WoW have Seiges? in real time PvP Combat with Real Vs Realm (no)
and yes having combo skills where you attempt multiple actions is alot more skill involved because it depends on which order and what types of abilites you use, the combos are unlimited and ever damage factor outcome is different! Unlike Cast Fire, then after the spell charges and complete then u click Ice or whatever WoW has. Imagine Clicking and attack icon Followed by a parry defence block, then a finishing ability within a matter of seconds.. alot of faced paced action, in real time actions. i wasnt being official on the explanation i was just making an example of the different types of Combat systems.. because 1 single action click and do 1 ability is less skill than having to pare 1 skill up with 3 following abilites in the amount of time it takes wow to do 1 ability! ill gurantee a WoW Driven pvp player wouldnt last in pvp against an old Vet of DAOC PVP.. dang ill even bet 2 WoW players couldnt handle one of them.. because WoW myfriend isnt PvP.. now when you play a Mmorpg where ur constantly taking on 5v1 or 6v1 in seiges or whatnot constantly and still coming out with a victory (DAOC RVR).. that called skill..
Mythic Entertainment has won several PvP awards with their famouse RVR pvp and their combat systems with DAOC it makes WoW look like The Sims! with people running around crying because they cant beat Twinks when they gang up on the 4v1!
lol that does give me an idea though.. i think it would be Pretty good.. let Blizzard and Mythic Team up to make a Mmorpg where it can be Warhammer Vs Warcraft.. where the alliance and the horde team up as they did in the original Warcraft times to battle their foes and have it wher eu can choose Warcraft toons, WAR Toons, and battle it out for the sake of Pure PvP.. (cept its gotta have Mythics PVP system or itll suck)

Actually If you wanna be technical. WAR has alot more fans throughout its history, its been around alot longer and has been alot more successful than warcraft.. id say over a billion fans of WARhammer and roughly hundreds of million for warcraft! you forgot about WARHAMMERS classic games did ya..
PS: I'm in WAR beta from more than a month and can say its much more fun and dynamic gameplay than WoW even in that beta stage.
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

If in Dark Age you win a 5v1 fight (did you mean 5:1, as in ratio...? I'm going to assume not because that's not what you said means) it's because of gear/spec, neither of which are skill in the sense I am speaking. I'm talking about micro, physical dexterity and the ability to think fast and react to the situation. The "combo" you're talking about exists in about any MMO in a form, you do the same thing in WoW, you hit a button to cause a debuff/opening, hit another to do a set up/stun, then one more to do a finisher. How is that different in WAR, because I don't see it. Really in about any MMO you have plenty of time to react and cue up abilities, it's far from difficult as far a dexterity and reaction time goes. If you're referring to active combat, I'm going to refer you to Age of Conan, because that's what they're trying to do. Even over meriting WAR's combat system, it looks 1/10 as active as Conans, and I'm not saying it'll be a better game because of it, it's just a good example of something that takes "skill" to perform in.
Gear, spec, and ability chains do not denote skill, they denote time. The only thing I would think would requier ANY sort of practice (skill = something hard enough to merit practice) is knowing what situations to use them in, and that's called experience, another factor related to time played and not skill. Really, don't tell me hitting 3-4 buttons with proper timing needs any sort of skill at all.
And Zach, I don't see the relevance to your questions to me, and my post you quoted, or your post....
I didn't talk about WoW, I said WAR looks like nothing new, you talked about how WoW was boring because it was nothing new, backing my point up..... I know WoW wasn't the first MMO, and all MMO's will borrow, I just feel WAR borrows too much, hence, nothing new.

Excuse me but in WoW there are 5m Chinese grinders, 2m Kids and 2.5m that just playing because has never played or heard any other MMO.

I could give you a much better list of features where WoW copied AC2 completely.
Just remove 2 fightning factions and make it three instead and add these common features to your list.
Noone ever mentions WoW copied AC2, eventho the games are/were completely the same. I can't think of a single difference between these two games. Actually I can't think of a new feature that WoW brought and that wasn't in AC2. If you can, please share it here with me.

However, I will suggest that your list of features is just a rewording of mine.
Also, by your post are you suggesting that Mythic has never even heard of WoW and their 14 million strong playerbase and is copying AC2 even tho it is a failed game?
