Will Aion be the next "great" mmorpg?

FFandDBFFandDB Member Posts: 57

I really hope so.

I have read a lot of articles and watched a lot of videos about the gameplay and the gamestyle of Aion.It really looks promising and a lot wow and L2 players are bored with these games and are looking for the next good mmo they can play.

For their bad there is none "good" mmo except these too right now and i dont think  Aoc will make it happen.

But with warhammer and expansion of wow coming these players (and their are making a huge number) will just go to the game that will come out first and is "great" ofc.

I really hope that Aion will come faster than the rest warhammer and wotlk cause imo its a huge opportunity for a game to get many subscribers now that there are so many players frustrated from wow.

But i really believe that Aion will get the huge community as wow has right now.

Cause the community is the one that raises one's game prestige and makes a game appreciated and well known.

    mostly not..

uo is a legend because it is the first powerful mmo..

wow is a legend because they done something no one can do at the time..(large one piece map, skill, class, labor skill)

true.. aion is not bad.. but nor do they much much things thats really new to us.  yea.. flying system is cool.. but there are many game with that element..(eg. perfect world).  well atleast personally i have not found not even one element thats only exist in aion....(including the npc race, there are game which have had done that long ago)

WoW has not done anything that hasn't been done before. Large one piece map? Lineage 2 has done this before and much larger I might add. Skill's? They are typical mmorpg skills. Classes? Nothing new there. Labor skill? Done before.

Wow invented swords and bows also, that was one hell of innovation back then, don't forget that.

Compared to AoC and WAR, Aion is flying low under the radar. Very low. People just don't know this game, and won't buy it. Not because it's a bad game, but because they nothing about it, or the name.

If the game is as good as beta reports point, people will know about it, quite sure power of mouth can be better than any kind of overhyping manuver.

Ummm... I'm not saying that there isn't a game out there that hasn't done it before but what game has had an NPC faction that will make its choices depending on the state of the war between two player factions. I have yet to really experience any game that does that at all, has a 3rd faction that acts like a player one and will team up with another, attack both, double cross one and other such things, including having a GM take control of it should things get to dull.

All WoW did was take popular MMO features and combine them into their game. It was absolutely unoriginal down to its toes yet it did so well. Aion will feature a great deal of popularized features along with a strong PvPvE presence. But more to the point I'm really curious about this MMO with a self running faction because I'd love to play it while I wait for Aion.

P.S. WoW invented the internet too

What will draw alot of people like me to Aion is the artistic direction. The characters, the animations and if everything else is great then heck, it would all be icing on the cake (gameplay, end-game, replay value etc).

I'm hoping this game DOES stay under the radar until it comes out. It makes my toes curl up reading people say this is a WoW clone, from having read some poorly worded comment somewhere on this site from another user. It's how rumors get started.

Fly low under the radar, then spread by word of mouth. That's what I'm hoping for.

I agree. I know it wont be making huge headlines anytime soon with all the publicity aoc and war ontop of wotlk coming out but that doesn't change the fact that Aion has potential to be a great game. I have a ton of friends who REALLY want to play aion and could give a damn about aoc or war. I think there will be enough low to mouth and possibly surprising reviews that will give aion a respectable community.

what i mean is the content.. the graphic the style.. the race war.. the pvp.. all those are advance when wow first release.  true l2 have done large piece map.. but not as big compare with wow.  well.. personally i don't really like wow neither.. but i must say wow have done something no other company have done before when they first release..........

well back in UO's age every little things may count.. but as time pass by it get harder and harder to become a legend on game history.. there are many new game just been release like requiem, sho online....etc  these are good game too..  well aion might be a guild war clone.. but i don't think it will reach such a high rating sinse they have not able to do anything new..   well.. guild war is nice, isn't it ?  XD

Sorry, but you look completely clueless, and you lost me when you said gw clone, please, get a bit of information before stating your opinion.

Not the next great MMO, just another grinder with shemale characters

Wow that was a very uneducated comment. Let me guess, you did little more then look at a picture and saw that the developers were located in Korea to formulate that opinion.

Just wanted to post 4 shemales to illustrate that point the Vanguard player tried to do.

Well a member of NC said officialy in an interwiev that Aion has not yet start publishing and promoting the game in US and EU cause they want to have a full game with no huge bugs etc be4 that.

They said that they will start the publishing thing in the next months.

If they do really so and they make a new site too( as they promised they would, cause the site they got now is really poor, according to warhammer's and aoc) and if their publishing is good enough as warhammer and Aoc i dont see why Aion couldnt become the next "great" mmo.

It has strong fitures, imba graphics and animations, nice skill and character customisation. Sure they luck a bit with only 7 classes but overall its a great game

One of the warhammer, aoc or Aion will be the Wow killer imo and since i dont see aoc being we are left with warhammer and Aion.

I really hope the wow killer will be Aion cause i like it a lot more, based on what i ve seen till now

an Everquest2/Vanguard players pointing towards another game and calling it a grind, the irony is just overwhelming.

Never really played an MMO which wasn't a "grinder" , I think it's part of the genre.. maybe Im wrong I don't know. Anyway Aion looks really kick ass , really looking to beta test it.

World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

Not THE next great game, but it will be A great game to play.  It really doesn't offer to much in the way of ground breaking game play (neither did WoW really--it was a game that millions were already playing in non-MMO form) Although flying is cool, it isn't enough to be the next great game.  The skills and classes are nothing new and the idea behind the game is really nothing new.  They even said that themselves when they referred to creating a game that players will fit into relatively easily.   I have no doubt this game will be lots of fun and provide some great PvP experiences.  Wonderful graphics, smooth game play .. yes.  It's the only game I am looking forward to, but I don't see it as being one of the best of all time.   Maybe they will prove me wrong, but not from what I have seen.

Don't mind Kilmar, he probably has some kind of Halfling complex and thinks every game without one sucks.

Maybe he's a Halfling in real life. *shrugs*

Your very first sentance in this paragraph is the perfect description of a good IT project.  For example just look at the iPod or the iPhone.  They popped a hard drive into an mp3 player instead of using flash memory and bam, top selling product.  Same thing with the iPhone, lots of different technologies combined into one device and they've got another winner.  By your description its the exact same situation with WoW.  You don't have to create something new, you just have to know how to put things together.

Aion will be a good (great?) game but will not achieve giant amounts of players. It is too esoteric for that.

As far as a WoW killer... there are no WoW killers. None. There will never be a WoW killer. People need to start realizing that WoW has gone beyond video game players. It is a social phenomon. So many people play it who are NOT video game players.

WoW will wind down just like any other game (possibly) but it will wind down very slowly.

So, when people compare video games they really need to remove it from the equation.

Aion will do well. It won't be huge.

Yeah that was pretty much what I said in my second sentence. I do firmly believe in trying to introduce something new but it isn't necessary for success in the industry, as WoW clearly illustrated. Veterans won't something new as well as well assembled, new comers just want something well assembled.

  • Dagon13Dagon13 Member UncommonPosts: 566

That you did, I just wanted to reinforce the idea that Aion can still be a hit even if it has nothing new.  We won't know until the game is on the market, and I have no knowledge of any system that proves otherwise.

When people are refering to the phrase "wow killer" what they actually mean is new MMORPG that will be at least great as wow is/was, the only reason this hasn't happen yet is because no company matched the investment and the creativity Blizzard put into their MMORPG - like it does with every game (look at Diablo 2 for another good example). Is Aion gonna be like that? I believe only the players who beta tested it can say, Is WAR gonna be that game? I can tell you that atm it's not even close. If no company will create a "wow killer" it's pretty safe to say that Blizzard will be the one to create another mmo to pick up the players tired from wow.

World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.

You've forgotten the Wheel. Heck, they invented the Wheel even before Microsoft did ! And the Internet. Also before Microsoft !

(If someone doesnt get this joke, a lot of Windows users praised "inventions" of their operating system that have been in place in Unix and other operating systems 10 to 15 years earlier, and often in a more solid and clean implementation as well. Since then, professionals often claim jokingly that Microsoft invented the Wheel as well - or the Internet)

Not the worst kind of publicity, but what is Aion really ? A game with two races which look both like elves (one light, one dark) and PvP each other.

    A very limited concept, IMHO.

But is that the kind of game you want to play for years ? Personally, I would ask for a little more diversity.
