Hi guys,
I am looking to start playing a MMORPG but I really like the solo aspect of it. I want a game with a lot of quests and things I can do on my own besides just leveling up. Like I loved the Final Fantasy series and that style quest game play. Is there any MMORPG that offers this?
Thanks

World of Warcraft
It's just about the best "starter" MMOG you can play. Plenty of content, lots of information online, plenty of people playing, absolutely soloable, and a solid, fun game.
Once you play that until you can't stand it any more you'll have a much better idea of what you want to do next and you can ask again. Then you'll be ready to graduate to some more involved, rich, complex games that have some fantastic content.
could give guildwars a go, if ya cant get a group you can make yer own by grouping npc henchmen and do the quests solo.
playing eq2 and two worlds
World of Warcraft and Dream of Mirror Online offer a good casual playstyle. Also Tabula Rasa and Lord of the Rings Online provide some good solo content, although they are not quite as popular as the other 2.
Solo MMORPG (possibly the biggest oxymoron in existance)
if you like the Solo aspect of it of MMOGs try oblivion. its a huge world that you can go anywhere gather gear farm grind and has multiple expansions, and the best part is that you do not pay a monthly fee.
any mainstreem EQ /WoW clone you can solo in them but that is a complete waste unless you enjoy giving out 15$/month.
guildwars as well but if you want to enjoy its fullest potential you have to group with humans
EQ2 is the best for soloing IMO, literally thousands of quests to be had.
/agree
I would say EQ2 and WoW
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
In City of Heroes/Villains you will get the best loot by soloing.
No other MMO offers that. No debate.

City of heroes
Vanguard is very solo friendly. Thousands of quest are in game(some are borken so you'll ahve to skirt around them - no biggy though there are literally thousands of quest) and you'll gain exp pretty quickly. Also, when you are not in game your character is still able to level in a weird sense of the word because you'l recieve what is called rest exp bonus and this takes the sting off of gaining exp. I believe World of Warcraft is also very solo friendly(I dunno if this is true since I play with people in the game) and I also believe that if you stay at an in you'll earn rest bonus exp in WoW as well.
Best " SOLO " mmorpg
Am sorry to be rude but please dont play a mmorpg if you wanna do the solo multiplayer thing just go play oblivion and games in that genre .
MMORPG were made to play with groups overall and acheive things with a guild or a corp , yes am aware you can solo in some of them like wow or eq2 .
but realise the best loot and gear is gotten by group content so dont waste peoples time here .
There is only 1 MMO which give the ALL THE BEST loot in group.
This is City of Heroes/Villains. (Also give it solo)
You talk as if many MMOs favor grouping. There is only 1 MMO which favor grouping, and this is City of Heroes/Villains. Strangely enought, it also happens to be the only MMO which favor soloing.

Everquest 2 has great soloing, some would say too much great soloing in it these days. Some classes will solo slower than the others but they can all make it to 80 alone.
Loot in city of heroes ?? am not even mentioning the invention system , what loot are you talking about ?
Most mmorpg's are built with group content even coh/cov , what you want to solo a riki invasion ?
only thing am trying to debate here is the fact that there a big diference between a single player game and a mmorpg game even though i know alot of players want to do the solo thing knowing there players around them .
World of Warcraft is soloable from levels 1-70. You don't need to group at all if you don't want to but you will miss out on the best gear. Try to find a good guild with people you can relate to. Avoid grouping with anyone who has the attitude "Why play MMOs if you don't want to group" as you can guarantee that if they're asses out of the game, they'll be even worse in game. They never seem to realize that if you have only 2 hours to play, you're not going to spend those 2 hours looking for group.
The only problem that I've found with WoW is the in game community, for the most part, is the probably the worst you will find anywhere outside of an elementary school playground.
If you want a solo + content game, theres none that compares to EQ1. It has the most content in ANY MMO gauranteed. Just picture yourself soloing gods when it used to take over 30+ people. Basically almost any class can solo in the game and you're basically unlimited to quests (it wouldn't be called everQUEST for nothing)
But if you want an ENDLESS game try skill based mmo's such as UO. Free to become anything you want without even having to change characters for a different build. Custom design your own house or even own your own castle, treasure hunt expeditions, making top end weapons/armor/jewelry (some are even better than raid boss loot). Open pvp in a different faucet on the same server, all out guild vs guild war, the possibilities are endless.
There's only one downside...If you're into graphics, these 2 games are quite outdated, but delivers everything you would want from soloing.
Favorising a good soloing gameplay and a good grouping gameplay are symbiotic.
Not parasytic as you seems to believe.

Nuff said.
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Personally I like solo friendly MMO's that are challenging. I wonder why so many people think that questing with others is the end all in MMO's. I may like to solo but I love to use chat too. I love the commeraderie, plus at times I do like to group. Still the banter is as important as the questing. Don't get me wrong I do group at times. But I like to take my time and when I instanced in Wow, it always seemed like everyone wanted to rush through. Now I don't blame them, I would rush through an instance too if I've run it numerous times. Yet it still makes it hard for casual or new players.
I tell you what guild I would like to join. One that doesn't even care if they actually finish a mission. Obviously it would be great to finish, but that goal would be secondary to joking around and having fun. I think the biggest problem is that MMO's are not my top priortiy so I get left behind by the ones I enjoy playing with and mostly left to myself. But still what makes MMO's appealing to me is being able to set goals, even if they are accomplished too slow for others.
You are so very wrong.
Everybody loves to point out the "multiplayer" in MMORPG, but no one mentions the other letters - RP for Role Playing.
Maybe the OP wants to RP as a loner who specializes in adventuring solo because his character would never want to share his loot with others. Perhaps, his character wants to bring his loot back to the city where he can THEN interact with other players in the form of selling them loot and/or crafted items he has made from his gathered resources.
Remember, there are other "multiplayer" aspects of an MMO besides grouping for adventuring. People who choose to solo in the field often enjoy the social aspects of the game that do not involve combat.
This persons $15 is just as important as yours and he/she deserves an enriching gaming experience (albeit, different from yours) just as much as you do.
Having said all that, I would have to add that I have the best solo experiences with EQ2 and WoW.
City of Heroes is a fantastic solo game, and a wonderful easy grouping game too. You can solo the whole way if you want.
Vanguard I wouldn't say is a great solo game, I mean you can solo, don't get me wrong, but just be prepared to Solo alot, because groups are scarce, and there are some missions that are only for groups which slows progression. (eventhough if you play it right you can do the group quests, but don't hold your breath on completing every one). Plus travel time takes forever.
WoW is pretty much your all around, you can solo, you can group. Not my style though.

I have to agree 100%. Teling someone how to play a game and spend their money is ridiculous! Answer the question or GTFO.
having played all MMOs worth playing i would have to say WoW is the best solo mmo, just because i have taken characters 1-60 in one week solo, recently i took a paladin 1-60 in two weeks, now if you were playing say a warlock or hunter it would be two or three times as fast. (EQ isn't anywhere near as soloable)
