Comrade...? More like... ENEMY! Ah ha... umm no

Well yes, so anyways...

...to put a long story short, I entered a contest and won myself a VIP subscription to fileplanet... I don't want to go into detail for the contest as that isn't really the problem. When I recieved the email, made the VIP subscription, and checked to see how the site gives out betas, it seems they do it pretty fairly, yet it's pretty annoying. Every three hours or so (at least that's my guess) they give out a certain number of keys. This gives a pretty fair chance to their regular subscribers. What I dislike is that I have to check back on the page every half an hour, because I can't tell when they give out the keys or not and apparently they run out like hotcakes.

So I downloaded Comrade, like they suggested over at fileplanet. I went to their site and added "teamfileplanet" as a comrade or whatever they call it. When I open the Comrade client, it leaves a bar on my desktop, but it does not open anything (as you can tell by that sentence and the following sentences I am a n00b with computers)... how exactly does comrade work? In my hidden icons screen it says Comrade: Not Connected, so I'm not exactly sure if that means I did something wrong or if it is supposed to function like that. I have internet connection and did everything that was suggested on the fileplanet page. Does something pop-up on my computer when they are available or what...? And is it the comrade client in general not supposed to open anything?

At the moment it is sitting on my desktop bar, and has a hidden icon stating "Comrade: Not Connected" (like I previously stated). Any help would be appreciated.

Try turning it off completely and restart it, if that works, when keys are available it will make a sound and a window will pop up with a link to click, keep refreshing that page till it gives you a key or says keys distrubuted.

so my question is, at the moment it is not supposed to do anything yet...? It should make a sound and a pop-up window comes up as long as it is running?

Make certain to check Comrade's options to configure it so that a sound does play. Mine wasn't initially configured to play a sound when a message is received.

Comrade rules! I got a key immediately after the first batch was sent. I may have been the first!

Alright, when you open Comrade, do you see "TeamFilePlanet" under Ambassadors? If so, everything is great. Just be certain to configure Comrade to play a sound and you'll be good to go!

Yes, it is under the ambassadors thing  the only thing I'm having trouble understanding is how the program actually works... do I keep the program running for notification, the site that runs it, or both? It isn't really making sense to me.

Yes keep it running it is like an IM program and you have file planet set as one of your friends. When the keys are available they will send you an IM popup with a link to dl.

That's odd, it's supposed to leave a window? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program but it isn't doing any good. It merely leaves a bar on my desktop, no sort of IM shaped window shows up on my desktop like it should. Can anyone give any feedback on how to fix this...? Does it have something to do with my firewalls or something?
