The MMORPG Awards - cast your votes here.

MajesticoMajestico Member UncommonPosts: 481

So I have taken it upon myself to compile a list of several awards for MMO's.  To participate, all you have to do is vote for your favourite in each category.  After a couple of weeks of voting, I shall compile the results, and present the top three in each category.

Also, I will be compiling a short-list for the top five MMORPG's. and presenting these final five choices on the awards  thread.  Sort of like the Best Film short-list at the Oscars ceremony.

Then once these final five have been voted on, I shall write a third thread, which will reveal MMORPG.com's unofficial top game.

A;though these awards are just for fun, the results should be interesting.  Each account holder is allowed to participate only once.

Also, if you want to see your game do well, then it is in your interests to vote, and even to let others see the thread, so that more people can cast their votes.

Without further ado, here are the following categories.  You can nominate one game per award.

Best Graphics in a game.  (Speaks for itself)

Best Storyline and Quests in a game. (How much did the game immerse you in its story and lore, and how good was the quest system)

Best Sound in a game. (Speaks for itself, but not just game music, but also ambient noises, npc speech, etc)

Best Community in a game. (How friendly and mature did you find the game's community.)

Worst Community in a game. (Immature trash talk on the chat channels, clique comms that do little to nothing to help a new player, etc)

Best Game for PvP.

Best Game for RvR.

Best Game for Role-playing. (Should the game contain rp servers, then it should be judged on those)

Most Challenging Game. (This refers to how hard the game is to get anywhere, etc)

Biggest Grind in a Game.

Most Innovative Game. (a game that dares to be different, and offers us something new)

Most Casual/Solo Friendly Game. (a game for the player who might want to solo, and play only a few hours a week)

Best Game for Raiding.

The following awards allow you to give three choices, as these are towards the shortlist of finalists. Your first choice is worth 4 points, second 2, and last one point.

Three Shortlisted Games for Best Free to Play.

Three Shortlisted Games for Worst MMO Ever.

(and the biggie) Three Shortlisted  Games for the Best MMO Ever.

If, in the shortlisted titles, you cannot think of three games, then your first (and perhaps only) choice will still collect 4 points.

I hope that these categories are enough.  I was going to include 'largest game environment', as well as many more.  However, we shall see how these first awards go.

Remember, if you are passionate about your game, then it is in your best interest to vote.

In order to vote, you can either pm me with your choices if you want to remain anon.  Or simply reply to this post.  When voting, please take the time to answer all the questions.

I may print this thread in each of the individual forums, if  you think I should, just to get sufficient numbers to vote.  If I get enough voters here, then I won't need too, as I am just looking for significant number of voters to represent the views of the MMORPG community.

Thanks for your participation.

That's alot of stuf to answer too many IMO.

FFXI wins several of the categories such as storyline/community,WOW the worse community. You left out battle system ,wich is very important and FFXI wins hands down.FFXI is also the ONLY game i know of that uses a sub-job system something that is deff unique amongst the majority of games out there.

Best sound? that is a real hard one i never thought of it really to base an opinion.I don't think any one game owns it all sound wise.Honestly i have been satisfied with sounds in alot of different games and areas.

Best graphics another very hard one to answer.Everyone has there own opinion as to what BEST graphics mean.To me it's graphics that seem realistic and yet look good .Graphics change so much from map to map and area to area that no one game could garner the hero of it all. Also weapon/spells/animations all come into play and vary from zone to zone spell to spell.

Best PVP. My answer wil prolly shock alot when i say FFXI.My reason isn't that it's a great PVP game but it does make it so you are on equal terms with your opponent.Yes it allows a group to team up on a single player, but that is only if you choose to stray away from your team mates. Most games out there use a pathetic free for all system that allows a player with a higher level to easily beat up on a low level player.I might also add that in FFXI gear isn't nearly dependant on as in other games.I repeat FFXI is NOT a great PVP game,it just shows how i feel about all other garbage PVP efforts.

Best roleplaying i would have to say EQ or EQ2.EQ2 also owns the quest title.

To be honest i can't answer alot of the categories because no one game can claim tops in any one area, there all hit and miss depending on different zones/instances.One zone may have tremendous battles/sounds/graphics where as another zone may be crap.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Thanks so far for the people who have taken their time to vote.  Remeber it is your opinion, and as the second posters said, games change, but in general, a game such as Guild Wars would generally be considered to have better graphics than say Runequest.

So cast your votes.  The more I receive, the bigger the database I can build up, and the more creditable the final awards ceremony shall be.

Please if you are a fan of MMO's., do not dismiss this thread, as ir is a chance for us to gague what people think.  Yes, there may be awards missed, but  this is meant to be something akin to the film awards, and not every category is catered for.

    So please, keep them coming.

Best Graphics in a game.  (Speaks for itself)

Probably Vanguard...but its hard for me to judge

Best Storyline and Quests in a game. (How much did the game immerse you in its story and lore, and how good was the quest system)

    WoW, hands down.

Best Sound in a game. (Speaks for itself, but not just game music, but also ambient noises, npc speech, etc)

    WoW again, especially ambient sounds

Best Community in a game. (How friendly and mature did you find the game's community.)

    City of Heros / Villains

Worst Community in a game. (Immature trash talk on the chat channels, clique comms that do little to nothing to help a new player, etc)

SilkRoad, but many F2P suffer almost as bad

    Best Game for PvP.

EDITED: EVE.  I have no ideal why I forgot this game on THIS question.  yeah, it wins this one.

    Best Game for RvR.

    DAOC

Best Game for Role-playing. (Should the game contain rp servers, then it should be judged on those)

I have to vote WoW here too....only because I don't RP and it has the most RP servers of any game I know.  Thats gotta count for something.

Most Challenging Game. (This refers to how hard the game is to get anywhere, etc)

EVE, by very nature of the beast.

    Biggest Grind in a Game.

    Silk Road

Most Innovative Game. (a game that dares to be different, and offers us something new)

*sigh*  This one was hard for me.  City of Heros / Villains.  Its been the only thing that really offered me something new that was lasting.

Most Casual/Solo Friendly Game. (a game for the player who might want to solo, and play only a few hours a week)

I'm pretty sure WoW is gonna win this one hands down.  WoW

    Best Game for Raiding.

Best Graphics in a game.  (Speaks for itself)

Of the games I've played, I like Vanguard the best, newer games may have better graphics.

Best Storyline and Quests in a game. (How much did the game immerse you in its story and lore, and how good was the quest system)

Everquest, no other game I have seen has so many stories so well told, my favorites include the Dains, Mayong, and Meldrath

Best Sound in a game. (Speaks for itself, but not just game music, but also ambient noises, npc speech, etc)

I have to much background noise from kids / wife / TV to tell

Best Community in a game. (How friendly and mature did you find the game's community.)

City of Heroes: People there are always willing to answer my questions, even the stupid ones.

Worst Community in a game. (Immature trash talk on the chat channels, clique comms that do little to nothing to help a new player, etc)

World of Warcraft: They may not all be 13 year olds, but most act like they are.

    Best Game for PvP.

    Eve

    Best Game for RvR.

Everquest: You want that uber piece of gear, your going to darn well earn it.

Best Game for Role-playing. (Should the game contain rp servers, then it should be judged on those)

    City of Heroes

Most Challenging Game. (This refers to how hard the game is to get anywhere, etc)

Everquest: No freebies, no getting to max level / AA's in 3 months, death still has a meaning, and if a mob cons yellow or red to you, you will respect it.

    Biggest Grind in a Game.

    Lineage II

Most Innovative Game. (a game that dares to be different, and offers us something new)

Vanguard: Has some very innovative Ideas, I enjoy the Diplomecy

Most Casual/Solo Friendly Game. (a game for the player who might want to solo, and play only a few hours a week)

City of Heroes: Very casual friendly, very easy to solo all the way to max level, altitis is very common.

    Best Game for Raiding.

Everquest: No one else even comes close is quantlity, complexity, or quality. This is EQ's strongest point in current game and no one touches it.

The following awards allow you to give three choices, as these are towards the shortlist of finalists. Your first choice is worth 4 points, second 2, and last one point.

Three Shortlisted Games for Best Free to Play.

I don't do free to play games, that is just begging for item malls, bot armies, and swarms of immature idiots.

Three Shortlisted Games for Worst MMO Ever.

I try to research my games before I play them, thus avoiding games that I feel will not match my personal play style.

(ans the biggie) Three Shortlisted  Games for the Best MMO Ever.

Everquest: It was there at the begininning and is still going strong

World of Warcfaft: I did not care for it, but a few other people do

Vanguard: I truely enjoy the game, too bad it was released unfinished

If, in the shortlisted titles, you cannot think of three games, then your first (and perhaps only) choice will still collect 4 points.

I hope that these categories are enough.  I was going to include 'largest game environment', as well as many more.  However, we shall see how these first awards go.

Only from what I've played- which is admittedly not as diverse as the hardcore mmorpgers.

Best Graphics: Lord of the Rings

Best Storyline and quests: All the quests in mmorpgs are naff, as you can see right through them.

Best Sound: Not noticed too much, maybe WoW.

Best community: all depends who you come across really.

Worst Community: Saying above WoW takes this- simply due to the volume of incessantness. Although for a free game, there was a worse one I've forgotten.

Best game for Pvp: for pvp I've experienced I'm going to say WoW, as flawed as it is it does have decent objectives.

Best game for RvR: Not played RvR

Biggest grind: One of the Lineages for sure.

Best game for RP: Everquest, the environment and the layout fostered it. You used to come across many people who were into it.

Most challenging game: The most challenge is usually PvP, as people have different levels of skills and an unpredictability. But, otherwise, for grouping etc then Everquest maybe.

Most Innovative: Are the original mmos innovative? maybe I'm tempted to say AC2 but that is a sequel to AC so maybe it wasn't.

Most casual friendly/solo-friendly: WoW and its I love solo to 60 campaign.

Best game for raiding: I most raided in Everquest and while that wasn't really enjoyable and it completely ruined the grouping game, it did have some moments of enjoyment.

Best free to play: Is there one?
Worst mmo: well most people upon playing quit if they don't enjoy it, but maybe a nomination to Dragonraja for being an absolutely nightmarish experience.

    Top 3 mmos for me:
    1. Everquest
    2. AC2
    3. WoW

Thanks for the votes for far, I may post this on other forums to get more votes, as I am looking for at least 50 to give us a reasonable sense of which game deserves which award.

Still another 12 days for voting.
