Irth Online

http://www.irthsupport.com/issue_view.asp?ID=54&CATE=9

Question:

How large is the world?

Solution:
It's huge.

On release the 'known' mapped area of the world in Irth Online is approximately 1,000,000 sq kilometers. Natural disasters in game and certain player action and exploration can increase the known size of the world. The land mass may appear to be dynamic based on certain player action.

For those of you who say DnL, going to be 40 000 sq km is going to be too big, this is a bit much. Maybe it's a typo? But that's ridiculous. And this is apparently a multi server game?

This isn't a flame of any kind, just a representation of facts and interests.

Anyway, the game does look interesting :P

With graphics like that, the world can be huge without problems...

When i see games like this I really wonder why I am not working in a computer game company... Seems to be a shortage of talented 3D artists...

it is alpha...and as far as alpha goes, those graphics are good. Wait until it gets closer to launch and you will see a huge improvement in looks. That goes for any game.

My goodness. Those look like early EQ graphics. You cannot judge games on graphics but when the screenies are hard too look at...also that is way too big of a world. They need instant load teleportation and a drippy cup to make that world easy to get through.

The question isn't how big the world is, it is "Will there be enough content to occupy that huge ass landmass".  Plus the amount of players factor as well.  Look at world war 2 online.  Huge ass world, but less than 25000 people.  That makes a big difference.  I would rather have a smaller world that people can fill up than a large uninhabited void.

The graphics really arent too bad for alpha. I've definitely seen worse. And no, It is better then EQ1, EQ1 looked really clunky, these are more smoothe.

Btw.....Enigma.....If You meant by disproportionate. Stacked.....I'll definitely agree with ya there.

Developers need to realize that offereing a huge world is pointless if there is no content in it. Not very impressed by a huge world filled with nothing.

That was also uh 6 or 7 years ago, it should be far better but sadly, this game is a joke and should be filed under the wanna-be section.

Considering half the people on this forum havent heard about this game until this thread, I doubt they have a very large budget.

Ok, so I'm guessing, if the world is a perfect square, then it would be 1000km long and 1000km wide.

Now i'm guessing, they either don't know how to calculate math, chracters walk extremely fast, or they are just stupid.

    I'm guessing it's all 3.

Seriously, would on earth would want to go 1000km just to cross the world (takes hmmm i dunno... 250 hours if you go at 4kmph).

No one can fill up that amount of land with content.

No thanks. (btw, DnL looked better when it was in alpha)

I'm not gonna want to walk for a few hours to see 1 person.

If it is a perfect square it would actually 1000km by 1000km.
It will be very hard for them fill that meaningful content...

The graphics aren't THAT bad... You people are pretty harsh...

I would be willing to give this game a trial run to see if it is any good. One thing people don't realise is if the game graphiucs are scaled down a bit, a lot more stuff can be going on before slowdown occurs.

And as for the world size, wouldn't be too hard to fill that much space with content if they used some sort of random generator for content. A good thing about a world that large is that you really can go off exploring and find new things without running into 60 people sitting and waiting for their turn at a spawn.

As far as the female avatars are concerned, they were testing the limits of the character optimization.

Im going to be in the beta (it's in Alpha 1 atm). It sounds like a really good and interesting game, but I have to agree about the graphics hehe.

  • ghoul31ghoul31 Member Posts: 1,955

The graphics look fine to me

better than RYL or junk like that.

Better than those cartoony WOW graphics for that matter

  • HarafnirHarafnir Member UncommonPosts: 1,350

Well, pretty harsh and pretty harsh... I am a 3D modeller. Amateur. Just that my brother is a game programmer and I was taught 3D by one of the modellers behind Battlefield 1942. I guess those games are made in a different way, I mean..

<---------- I did this in less than a day and the only polygons on that thing are the small studs that keep it together, easilly removable and bumped.

    And I am not professional...

But then.. You should know better. For a professional that game probably looks awesome.

The Graphics didnt look that bad to me for a game in alpha testing.  They do have some interesting ideas  involving exploiters/griefers.  Being placed in a "Hell" server as they said, where you cant leave ever again, with the rest of the exploiters/griefers... Sounds hilarious!  Or their final option of Banning the player and ALL accounts using the same name and credit card, then announcing to the whole community why that person was banned.   Thats Cold!

  • FinweFinwe Member CommonPosts: 3,106

Griefers? They actually have rules against griefing somone that could have out of game action taken to you by the team?

I really hate those type of games. People will always whine, people will always say they're griefed.

And exploiters, my point of the matter is...If they released a buggy exploitable game, its their fault.

Wow that sounds pretty cool.Sending griefers to hell. great idea!

After looking at the screenshots, the avatars look alil too much like each other, specially with what they were wearing(dont know if they are going to change it or what). As for the land mass, if they make Irth like the real Earth, then 70-75% of the actual mass is water.

  • XzaroXzaro Member UncommonPosts: 1,719

Point is that it's not all in 1 server. (at least as far as I know)

DnL has 40,000km squared, in 1 seamless server, and people already are worried there won't be enough people to fill the world.

Now imagine 25 times the size of DnL, but has seperate servers.

The question is not "CAn they randomly generate a HUGE landmass" but instead "Can they fill what they have with exciteing content"?
