I got a chance to go over to my buddy's place and gave the AoC beta a whirl. I have read all the negative crap that people have been spewing all over these boards among others and I was somewhat concerned but I still didn't want them to influence my opinion. I spent the day playing with an open mind, without any prejudices and I had a great time. Granted that I've only played for a short time compared to some other people out there but from what I've seen the thing looks great. It ran smooth on my friends comp with an average of 60 frames or more, no lag, and the loading times on Tortage were not all that bad. I understand why there are loading screens for the INN now and it makes sense to me.
From what I got to experience thus far I'm quite pleased. I'll go spend another day or 2 over there just to get my barberian a bit higher and see some of the other stuff out there so that I can better formulate my opinion but I'm glad I checked it out for myself. I will more then likely buy the game when it comes out if it's anything like it is so far. With any luck the minor bugs I experienced will be fixed in the next 2 weeks and more frills and fluff will be added later for added effect but it does not really matter to me. I enjoyed the game play and look forward to seeing what the PVP is like.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

yea i was thinking the same thing. i stop reading at the end of the part you highlighted but, i'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that a love affair between him and the game made up the rest of the post.

Something both sides of the debate are guilty of is refusing to believe the other may be right also.
There are people who are having major problems running the game.
There are also people who have had no problems at all running the game.
Each side has its resident trolls and flamers who refuse to see that both sides can have equal merit, and instead vehemently try to prove the other side as liars.

Don't call him out because you have poor reading comprehension, It's not hypocrisy or biased if he states it after he tried it. This post came AFTER he played it, therefore the "negative crap" comment is a result of his fun experience. It's nothing but his opinion, but since it seems that you take it as fact... that's your problem and you decide to flame him for it.

just jkin' with ya fion, but what I'm saying is that I agree greatly. A game's a game, and the same goes for 50 bucks if it sucks (which I doubt, but whatever happens happens).
Yup...Age of Conan is quickly becoming the Age of Drama...gawd ppl chill n just wait a few weeks n try the game n stop scrappin like a bunch of kiddies.
I don't think it's a "bad" game per se, but it was definately disappointing to me due to what I was expecting, and I've been playing since closed beta. It's VERY apparent that this game is being built both for XBox 360 and PC, hence the more controller friendly play. Does this make it a bad game? No, but I will say that it will scare off some of the PC market. No real worries though, it'll make it huge on XBox 360, which will more than make up for any PC player losses. Am I a bad person for saying such?
I'm not entirely sure what the two flamers that posted after the OP were talking about saying that highlighted quote was biased or hilarious.. If there are dozens of posts saying "the new combat system sucks" and other such comments, they are considered negative. That's a fact. If I say that this game does not live up to the standards stated by the creator, I am saying that the creator was incorrect, thus it is something negative about their game. The OP then said that he decided to ignore the negative comments, by instead of taking all the trollers words about the combat system and other such features, and gave the game a try to see what opinion about the game he could form. He's not saying that his opinion was changed. His opinion stayed neutral until the game was personally tested.
Why don't the guys that complain about that "highlighted part" go back to the Warhammer board. You're not building up hype for that game by spamming this game's forum. If you want to steal players from a game, go to the WoW boards since Warhammer is just Wow 2.0.
No your not a bad person, but in my opinion your very wrong.
Its a PC game first and foremost. To me it plays like one, it feels like it was designed like one. Sure its been no secret from its very first public showing they were playing with XboX360 controllers, but the xbox version is about 1 yr away and they are still actively recruiting xbox programmers. This means to me if it was designed for 360, that version would of come first. Plus all the devs I've spoken too enjoy the 360 joypad control but have been adamant all along this is a PC game. Thats been in a formal atmosphere and over a fair few pints of beer untill they can barely walk!

It's called "reading comprehension" as another poster stated. I believe that is being left out in most elementary school cirriculum these days. 8)

That's pretty hard to believe, especially if you've been to these boards. This is what we should all do, test the game for ourselves, and if we truly can do it with an open mind, that's great. As to it sucking. I've been in closed beta for 6 months now. It doesn't suck, for me at least. It rocks. 6 months of beta and not a hint of being burnt out. I cant say that about ANY MMOG I've tested in years and years.
I'm still weary of the combat and if it improves and is implemented better going forward past 13, before then it all seems the same, feels like a button mash fest. The performance issues are less worri-some to me because its something they can tweak and patch much easier rather than changing the structure of the combat system. It makes no sense that my low end rig can run smooth if I disable sound, yet people with quad-core's and dual gpu's have major problems. It'd be nice if they would patch the OB client to the latest CB client. Thats a wild card that im looking at as a make or break, is the cb/gold version as polished as some claim. Saying "what you see is what you get" isn't true, but that doesn't mean what we get will be working properly. If early access has this sound problem that increases my loads then ill be cancelling my pre-order before it ships. I originally cancelled but found that gogamer.com was selling for $5 cheaper and decided to take up the offer and register for early access. If I can't cancel I can at least ebay the retail box and break even. Until then im going to play some offline games and maybe start an Eve account as a fall back.

Well, no, they are wrong.
If he would have said "there were a lot of negative comments about the game and therefore I decided to play it but keep an open mind so as to allow my experience to shape my opinion" then that would have been fine for you. but he just was a bit more colloquial about it.
His statement is not hypocritical. One can hear as many bad or good comment but still approach something with an open mind. We all do it all the time. It's called "wanting to see for yourself".

Glad you feel this way, and my brother and a couple friends have recently pre ordered after playing on some of my level 13 characters and creating some new ones. Although it's always ran pretty smooth on my system after the first few hours of OB starting. The past two days i've only experienced one time where transitioning to night had me stuck at a loading screen for like 3 minutes. I hope they can fix the problems that others are having so it doesn't happen to my friends.
Technically, everything Warcraft is based on Warhammer, so WoW is more like Warhammer 3.5 (three Warcraft games, .5 goes to the online element).
Anywho, back on topic. I've heard many things from many people. Three of my friends are in beta, and they all say different things. What that tells me is either: a, the game has no broad appeal, and only opens it's doors to a certain type of MMO gamer, or b, my friends are morons. Could be either, at this point. I'm gonna work this game just like any other: ask around, (now here's the key part) play it, and see if I like it.
Reading these kinds of posts makes me laugh, too. The fanboi's always post first, and try to quibble semantics with the OP's writing. Everyone should just butt the hell out, because this guy's opinion doesn't mean jack ****. No offense to the OP, but no one will ever feel exactly the same about this game as he does, so what's the point of arguing? He likes it, cool. You might find it buggy and not good. That's cool too. In the end, it REALLY doesn't matter, because we're discussing a video game. And unless there's some formula in it's code that cures cancer, 10 years will pass and no one will remember it.

I saw a thread yesterday of a guy upset that his level 7 melee was doing more damage than his level 7 healer. Seriously?! Anyone who puts Vanguard in the same paragraph as Age of Conan is a complete idiot. Was I the only one who read the interviews with the fired vanguard Devs? They admitted that the entire game was a stage show practically held together with tin foil and duct tape when they went to the game shows.
This game has already won more awards than most of the MMOs listed on the side of this website, and these are people with a lot more industry credibility than a forum troll who somehow thinks by bashing this game it will make Darkfall ever see the light of day.
So when the OP calls what he sees on these boards as crap, he is not far off the mark most of the time.

Ciccero, you have not played the game by your own admission. I have played the game. As far as me being a veteran of this genre I stand by what i said. This board is filled with a lot of idiots whose first MMO was World of Warcraft and think somehow they have a wide enough perspective on the genre to bash a game with any degree of credibility or knowledge of MMOs.
I have been playing since 1999 when EQ1 came out. If you are implying that somehow represents a failure of real life then you are no better than what you are accusing me of. I am a small business owner of a successful manufacturing company, I am a home owner, and no stranger to the opposite sex. If you are trying to imply that I am some guy living in the basement spanking it to games than you are sorely mistaken.
So until you have actually played the game, attempting to discredit the opinions of those who have makes you look silly. Your on a message board for video games looking for opinions, so stop pretending you are better than everyone else or above it all. If your going to come here and try to wade through the ocean of idiocy that this board has turned into, I think people appreciate hearing the viewpoints of someone who has been here for a while and backs up his side of the issue with facts, instead of the...... What in the nine hells is wrong with some of your people? How is it hypocritical if the OP says that he is ignoring all of the negative hype, and trying the game out for himself, with his own eyes? Do you people know the definition hypocrit? Now, I haven't read his previous posts.. but the only way you can accuse them of being a hypocrit is if they constantly bashed the game. I'm going to guess that they didn't.
I've seen the words comprehension and maturity.. even jackasses. I'd say that's a good definition of some of these posters thinking that their word is the final word.. If someone has a good experience, you have to bring it down, even if you look like you're responding after a long night of jack daniels. Learn the meaning of words before you use them. That's my suggestion. Take my advice or not, I don't care, you're only hurting yourself.
It's like the grammar nazi's, except we have AoC anti-enjoyment nazi's. You have to slam and crucify people just because they are happy about the game. Don't some of you have better things to do? You know, school, work, taking care of your kids? Looking up the definition of Hypocrit is a good start.
Every games can be better and i decided to reedit this i played a few hours when i got thwe game installed i was having fun even though my system processor is sub par since it's duel core 1.66 ghz 2gb ram with vista i dont' say any game is crap since i think every game is basedon opinion what your taste are so therefore how is it crap or you the gamer likes it then you get flammed for liking crap games are just a fanboy it's funny though it seems like we have toi like what everyone else likes
