AOC vs WAR - Video (incl. FFA PvP Beta Event)

Okay, I give up. AOC and WAR are two totally different games. This video convinced me.

While I'm waiting for this thing to buffer, I will ask if you JUST figured this out?

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

I know it's silly to draw conclusions from videos. I watched the offical WAR beta footage, and compared it to what i experienced playing the FFA PvP event in AOC.

I might be totally wrong, but the combat in WAR looks like * censor * .

Cause there's not any favouritism at all here obviousley......

And I might be totally wrong, but the combat in AoC to me looks pretty boring. TO ME. Yeah, it was a little faster paced, but still. Also, the WAR footage released from Mythic shows the basic concepts. It is NOT the game that beta players are testing, it's just the skin and bones. No, it's just the bones. What's really going on is much, much better.

That freakin' music is beyond annoying... why does everyone have to use it for their videos!?!? Sure I didn't mind hearing it the first time, but this is at least the 6,000th time I heard it, at this point.

But yes, the video was definitely a little biased... nice to see some in-game footage of AoC though

It was really biased, and it was bull, I tried sending an email to that address. IT WAS A LIE.

Benny Hill was funny. Using fast motion = comedy genius! And that song gets a bit annoying but it's not the worst out there...

Very biased video, even the text is Conan lol.

Wasnt a fan of either music type either sorry.

It was good to see some more AoC PvP footage with a few people around.

The best comparison videos are yet to come though. The large scale ones in Sieging. Q4 will have some EPIC fair videos, for both games to compare.

I read there was a bug in the Warhammer beta were weapon swings were real slow, and this has come across in all footage from the game. Not to fair to compare either as both still in beta.

One plus for me though is in AoC I can kill the same race as myself and same class, whomever uses the class skills in those envitable one on one situations ftw!

Can see Battlekruse has a problem lol, only response is a beta bug video haha

  • Graphics mean nothing. I seriously doubt AoC will be revolutionary, considering the people were just floating around and not even hitting each other. Seriously, the AoC gameplay made much less sense than the Warhammer gameplay I saw.

Wait, you're taking WAR's early beta content and comparing it to AoC's 10-days-to-release content, then you draw conclusions?

EDIT: But they are two slightly different games, yes.

    HEHEHEHE

Woaw, WAR is coming out in Q4 2008 with graphics that look like the 2004 Wow ? Someone please has a link to a decent WAR video ? I can't believe WAR looks so bad.

lol thats the first video i seen of war and it looked aweful, i must be blind but to me it looked just like wow when i played it for 3years. No w8 wow even looked better then that video but ok it's beta so i guess it's not even close to the final product.

The music really disturbes me, why not let the video talk for itself, why not try to compair at a fair level. Why all this extra just to convince ppl, just let ppl just form their own opinion. I mean seriously we should be glad that we all not end up in the same game. :P

This video is unbalanced. You can see the finest from AoC and the silly things from WAR. So the confront of Aoc & WAR is not fair.

Why are people comparing the 2 games?

I bet war will be the best game yet for it's genre.

AoC is targeting a different audience. So, comparing the 2 is silly to me.

Can anyone explain why games are always "versus" other games, especially MMOs? I have seen so many people come to these boards saying WAR or Aion or Darkfall is going to be better than AoC. Why the obsession?

  • KRILE0NKRILE0N Member UncommonPosts: 299

I like AoC better then War..

Warhammer art style just isn't my thing and I don't like the lore. It'll be a good game obviously, but just doesn't appeal to me.

I like the more realistic graphic approach and the twitch based combat of AoC.

Warhammer looks and feels like WoW2.0.. I'm sorry to say that, but it's so true.

  • RedmowRedmow Member Posts: 196

I will be playing both. Both games have things that appeal to me. Two different games. But, I think I will enjoy them both.

From DAoC I am, Warhammer is my harbour.

Gamer I am, staying, where I have fun.

Long played I have, trying to find something enjoyful.

No matter, what this video is showing there: the next is my best.

Do you really think that PvP footage is flattering?

  • ArvidaArvida Member Posts: 2

The two video posts are confusing to me as well as others, it seems.  The WAR footage is all edited and post-produced.  It isn't 'actual' footage, in essence they ran a script that controlled the game while they captured motion video with some kind of integrated camera capture script.  Then, they took the footage, post produced it and made it look clean and awe inspiring.

The overall polished look is great, but it isn't the actual game play.  Whereas the AoC video is straight up gameplay with no fancy camera work.  I thought that the AoC video did justice to the fact that it looks pretty good without post editing and fancy camera work.

The WAR video, even with all its post-production work, is a little weak.  All movements are blocky and static.  You don't really see any variation.  Anyways, with these videos it is like comparing apples to oranges.  However, thanks for putting them together.  It is nice to talk about them.  =)

Aye, I think it was flattering. The huge gank feast where everybody

could kill each other gave me a slight picture of how future siege

combat will be like (bloody, intense and fun).

But I have to admit one thing. No game is perfect after launch.

It takes time (up to years) to tweak a game to perfection.

AOC will be strong in some parts, and weak in others. But in overall

(comparing to the other 15 MMORPG games I've been playing for over 8

years) I think AOC got a headstart in perfection.

AOC graphic is inline with what we should expect from a 2008 game.

So does the sound, animations, content .. you name it. And that's

    why I love AOC.

I admit I'm bias regarding WAR. But hey, I've been smoking the

fuse from all hype around WAR and it's starting to melt my brain :).

The only thing that can be deduced from this comparison is that the OP is an AoC fan.  To compare these two games is like comparing apples and oranges before the orange is even off the tree.  The graphics on both games will be good within their own style, AoC realistic and gritty with likely some of the best images seen to date & Warhammer, iconic and true to the GW license.  For absolute beauty then AoC will win hands down without a doubt, for smooth gameplay on mediocre systems however Warhammer will be the clear winner.

To look at just another couple of points of interest:

Quest system:  This feels secondary to the game in AoC with little imagination, go there, kill that.  Go there, fetch this etc. which has been the same in most games to date.  There is a wealth of lore available to draw on in Conan's world and in this aspect FC could have done better with the quests on offer, at least from what I have seen so far.  Likewise some of Warhammer's quests follow the same pattern but here Mythic have tried to think outside the box and they have added a few twists like if you have already killed a number of mob X when you talk to the quest npc he doesn't send you out to kill more, he simply hands you the reward as if he had sent you to kill them which alleviates a lot of the early level grind.  This also however can throw up a few problems, not least of which is the need for many more quests to fill the time saved by the system as it stands.  Overall though with the PQ system etc. I would say that here Warhammer gets the win.

PvP:  Here again we have two completely different styles that cannot really be compared to each other.  AoC has the more standard type of FFA PvP that we are all used to while Warhammer has Mythic's RvR system which in DAoC is still rated as one of the best systems to date.  I will not lie to you, I'm an old DAoC player and love RvR so I can't be unbiased and give an unbiased decision.  I prefer Warhammers PvP over that of AoC but at the end of the day it's personal prefference.

Lore:  Both games have a rich wealth of lore behind them.  I have read all of REH's Conan stories and I have read a lot of the Warhammer novels.  Both are a good read, not up to Booker prize standard perhaps but a good read just the same.  Likewise both have detailed fantasy worlds but this is where the comparison ends.  Both worlds are set in different timescales and both are excellent in their own niche.  Which one you prefer is again a matter of personal prefference.  Both companies, Funcom & Mythic have taken some poetic liscence with the lore and all the lore nazis out there for both games will be a little upset to say the least at some of the changes.  AoC has it's pretty spell effects for instance which make Conan lore masters cringe.  Warhammer has the chosen balanced with the other classes which I have seen many complaints about.  Not true to the lore perhaps but if the game had a raging tank dressed head to foot in god given armour and wielding a divine blade I can't see many other classes getting a smell in.  These alterations to the lore in both games are what the developers decided were needed to make the MMO more fun and both companies have done it.  No clear winner here.

Overall I will be playing both games, I have both pre-ordered and I hope that both are a success, which would be good for the genre that we all love.  As for my personal prefference I lean more towards Warhammer and not a small amount of that decision is down to the company behind it.  Mythic have proven themselves on more than one occasion, they listen to and have a good relationship with their players which a brief visit to the Warhammer alliance forums will show you.  Funcom on the other hand have yet to reach this pinnacle and well, Gaute Godager.  Nothing against the guy personally as I don't know him but his ideas are stuck in MMO pre-history and don't appear to have the ability to evolve.  In Ao back in the day when anything was added or changes were made to the game many players bit their nails in the hope that Gaute had nothing to do with it, nuff said.

I heared the opposite. Player from Closed Beta uninstalled the WAR client because EA/Mythic didnt listen to them. That's why they delayed WAR

until Q4 2008. But again that's probably just some

    bad rumors.

Either way .. Mythic was once the king of MMORPG, but that was long long ago. Since then

i felt they lost there way. What happend to IMPERATOR ? Why did they have to drop that project ? I just belive WAR is hyped. When I tried

to find more videos of how WAR works, most of

them where just bullshit with powerpoint slides.
