Drinking Capes for non-CE players?

edgecrusher213edgecrusher213 Member UncommonPosts: 17

I didn't see this posted, so forgive me if its a re-post, but I recieved an email from Funcom today giving me a code for a Drinking Cape for being a "long and thrustworthy participant in our community."

Did anyone else get anything like this?

The email:

Greetings!

You have been a long and thrustworthy participant in our community, and as such we would like to thank you for helping us form Age of Conan into the marvelous product it is today. The last weeks has seen some serious enhancment to the game, and with the release we will be opening several new areas and neverbefore seen content in the launch version of the game. What and where it is? You have to find out for yourself!

As a sign of gratitude for your aid, we are pleased to offer you the in-game item used by those loyal to King Conan: The Drinking Cape. This item will allow your characters (one game account only) to free of charge demand the very sought after alcholic drink of "Ambrosia" - free and in unlimited supplies for life! After having claimed your cape, merely find one of the kegs in the finer Inns of Hyboria and click it whilst wearing your cape to receive your drink.

To register your cape, log in to your account page by
https://register.ageofconan.com clicking here and under the option "Use a Key" - enter this key:

****

Once this has been done, use the command "/claim" inside the game to claim your in-game items. These items work for all the characters you create on your account. Note that all in-game items are only available on full accounts, and do not work on pre-order, buddy or (later) trial accounts.

Note that this item will not be made available again at later dates - so wear it with pride!

Regards,

Funcom

Yes I received one as well.

I believe it is just a reward for joining the official AoC forums prior to a certain date, making you a longstanding member of the community.

I suppose it is a good thing, but CE players might be a little miffed.  So now they spent $80 for a +.02% exp ring as the unique item?  Maybe FunCom likes to stoke the fires of its customers? Puts them in the mood to chop off heads!

O.o So whats my incentive for buying the CE now? I doubt that ring gives enough of a boost to make 80$ a good buy...

Meh, I don't see why it would be a big deal. Funcom mentioned ages ago on their forums that there would be a special item in game for the forum vets.

I think this was the least unfair item to give in comparison.

Just checked and got the same email notice too.  I guess it's compensation for being screwed out of EA.

Well let me see... theres the Art book, the faux leather map, the sound track and the "making of" DVD

each of which is well worth the added $30 over the regular copy. + doesnt hurt that the huge box that it all comes in looks nice enough to put on display.

Speaking of which I just got my code for the cape but I am really suprised they would give something to poeople who didn't buy the CE like me. Though the only reason I got it was because I have been a member of the AOC forums for over 2 years now.

I'd like to add myself to the list of people who got the cape code and won't be using it. So if the code can be given given away, just drop me a message and its yours.

*** Update: I already gave the cape code away, I'm sorry for those who didn't get the special promotion, but keep looking you might still find someone else willing to give it away. ***

If you buy a Collector's Edition (CE) for the in-game items, then you are really missing out. I expect to replace the ring and the cape anytime now and it wouldn't surprise me if its sooner rather than later.

The reason to buy a CE is all the other stuff. The music CD is incredible as is the behind the scenes DVD. The art book and the lore book both are good too. The map is awesome! So if you do the math:

    CE,  $80 - $50 (for the actual game) = $30

So dvd, cd, lore book, map, art books, 2 in game items and buddy passes = $30

Not a bad deal in my opinion.

Sometimes people are so focused on the negatives that they forget the positives.

Agreed.  I bought the CE for the Soundtrack and the Art Book, both of which were worth the extra $30 to me.
