How much freedom do you get?

I'm not talking about instances here, I'm talking about each zone itself.

Well, before the game release I used to read lot of reviews from close beta tester. Some of them complain about all the invisible walls in some zones and how you couldn't climb a 45degree slope.

My question is: are the zones still like this do they feel too linear? or is like wow barrens where you can go pretty much to the entire map and walk up the mountains.

Once you get past the starting area and hit 20+ the zones are much larger and similar to other games.  They have a town area with quests and you do quests in the surrounding areas which are pretty large and all part of the same zone.  So other then dungeons there is no zoning for most questing.  There aren't any invisible walls I recall.  There are hills you can't climb and the game does have a very hilly rough environment but I like that.

So no what you heard during beta doesn't seem to be the case.

conall's valley still feels very linear cause you mostly have to stay on the ways or close to them, you cannot move up/down the mountains on many positions (you theoretically can move down but you die too easy of falling). There are not many really free areas there.

cannot comment on the other zoens cause i have not seen much of them, wanted to quest mianly in cimeria with my cimerian char.

this game requires patience to get beyond the newbie area, Tortage

    if you enjoy Tortage

    - no issue

    if hate Tortage (like me)

    - try to stick with it until level 18 and the game soon opens up

Well there are often small invisible walls that you cannot walk through, and when you encounter these your character just stops, rather than running on the spot like on WoW. But mainly these are sensical spots, like the side of a step of stair cases rather than the front. Also sometimes you can only walk through certain points on half of the path, there is like a small blockage on the other part. One thing though is that unlike WoW jumping can get you over parts that you cannot walk up, so if you are traversing a cliff and want to get higher, which you cannot do by walking, jumping often succeeds :)

  • The game is very linear.  I'm 23 and working amongst three zones for my 20-40 questing areas.  I cannnot move beyond those zones until certain quests are done.  So yeah, it's a linear beyond tortage for at least the next 10-20 levels.  I don't know what's after that....

    yes and no

as soon as I got out of Tortage (HATE that place) I was running all over the place to  like 9 different zones

    - I visited all the guild hall zones at level 23 and I did have delivery quests there

(many fedex quests were worth 10k exp)

You'll also find theres more quests than you can handle if you go everywhere

    - Funcom has a Quest Log limit of 30,  and its easy to have 60+ quests at level 23

(if you go running around everywhere)

Funcom is not allowing Buddy keys yet

buddy keys will be activated on your account page once the first wave of paying customers has settled and we can let buddies come in.

First priority right now is a stable gaming service for paying customers.
