I have a hard time understanding why I see so much hatred posted about AoC on the forum. I know it is not a perfect game but from I have read the developers are working out as many bugs and glitches as they can. I have also seen reviews from other websites and they have been giving it an above average score. Am I missing the reason for all the hatred?

Haters, check off whichever option below applies:
1) You're a fan of another game, and trash anything that isn't like that game
2) You wanted AoC to have be a game it isn't and has never pretended to be (sandbox)
3) You hate it for being too much like WoW
4) You hate it for not being enough like WoW
5) You just like causing flame wards
6) You want to like the game but are concerned about the number of bugs and missing features.
7) You're really, really bored.
8. PO'ed because FC made a buggy game and theur tech support is sleeping at the wheel or their communicarion rivals that of monkeys with tin cans

Easy, this is not a place to go to to get information regarding any MMO, lest it be articles directly written from the staff here. Otherwise, its just a minute few that are not currently playing and enjoying the game that have some time to spit out their mouths.
Enjoy the game. I do. I learned I cant get caught up in an argument with someone who has already sold their soul to the devil. /shrug.
I have no idea why people feel the need to do this!
Buy it, play it. If you like it keep playing, if you don't like it stop playing!
I cancelled my account today, not because I hated the game or concept
Not because my computer couldn't run it
Not because of anything Funcom is or isn't doing.
I quit simply because it isn't the game for me. No harm no foul.
To those that like it....enjoy....
To those that hate it....MOVE ON.....
As to tech support...man...400,000 subs right now, potentially. I can bet their TS is swamped! Admittedly they could at least send some kind of response letting you know they're working on xyz, but I wouldn't blame their TS guys too badly when I bet they are getting their butts kicked right now.
There are numerous threads both here and at funcom's forums elucidating the reason many gamers are angry or dissatisfied. If you don't know now then your state of denial is such that you will never have the blinders lifted.
Some people look at a glass of water and see it is half full. Some see it as half empty. Maybe it's just 120 ml.
I think some people focus on one aspect of the game they don't like and use it as a reason to hate the game. I think any poster that slams the game based on one aspect like instancing is more clearly saying they don't like games with instancing and not really providing feedback on the game. I think that is something for the reader to interpret.
Now differing reviews are gonna be based on differing experiences. I posted a very positve review at lvl 23 or so. However at 43 my opinion had significantly changed. That isn't based on hate that's based on changing game experience as I've moved out of the highly polished tortage area and into the main game area. I think the game plays VERY different at the lower levels then the higher levels and not simply based on bug differences but design differences. So I think the review you get is going to be variable based on the level experience of the reviewer.
Case in point doing combat with combos of 1-2 keys is fun and working the enemy shields and choosing the right abilities etc is fun. Later doing the same with 3-4 keys when there is no queue and lag in the key activations causes combat combos to fail unless you are watching the timing of keypresses. This becomes frustrating because missing a combo in a tight fight is death. The becomes less fun and more about micromanaging the combat combo sequence.

Though not always an indicator of the reason I do find it interesting that corresponds nevertheless.
Myself I have played AC2, (gone for a few years now) WoW, EQ2, DAoC, (briefly) CoV, VG, LOTRO, Tablua Rasa, (briefly) and Pirates of the Burning Sea. (briefly)
Meaningless list but the point is I still think those games are good or have good things about them yet I'm playing AoC and enjoying it so far. I'm finding people with the same mindset to be a rare occurence these days though.

yeah I play LoTRO and EQII( off and on) and I would be playing AoC except Funcom's tech support can't be bothered to respond to tickets. I would think that 36 hours is plenty of time to send out a reply email something along the line of " we are aware of your problem and are working on a solution"

This game is over simplified and made for Xbox360. Auto-targeting, AOE heal spells, simple boss encounters, no durability, ZONES, quests tell you exactly where to go, etc. I can keep listing and listing but you guys will never see it. It's really not fun beta testing an xbox360 game. Plus can't you see why there's lack of content? They're going to release chunks of the game for xbox live points, and we'll probably have to buy content booster packs like EQ2. Get over it people. See the light.

Dare I quote the rainbow? Riddled with spelling errors and substituted correctly spelled words. However, I do like the idea behind it though. Haters, always have a perspective of their own, to spew onto the masses. Why not just shut them up?
X_-
Edit: bah edited obnoxious color font reply that latched on

Yeah next time use smaller words.. did'nt even read your garbage..
Who cares really? Anyway it's a testament to AoC awesomeness that all these haters are flooding our boards to tell us our game sucks. If AoC was as sucky as they want to make people believe they wouldn't be here, simple as that.
How people can be bothered to swarm a forum for something that they, supposedly, perceive stinks beats me. Me for instance doesn't give a crap about GTA-IV and that's why it couldn't possibly interest me any less to waste my valuable time going to their forum. The fact that they bother is evidence of AoC success.
AoC is an awesome mmo and these guys helps spread the word. People are getting curious as of why some can hate the game intensely while so many rate it as brilliant.
It is obvious that Sourajit Nandi does not like AoC and I've been reading lot of his postings.. well even if they're without substance any PR is good PR I guess..
thanks for helping keeping people interested in AoC...
It would be nice to see if you could do normal sized letters... but I guess you're so mad at people or AoC now we just have to wait until your fonts I mean rant wears off.
You should seriously get out and socialize.
Mmorpg.com is always the place to go for hateful emails ). But seriously, I think people got hyped bad on this game. The whole instancing question is clearly a big factor in many players' disappointment - the problem is not so much that tehre is instancing, btu that the publicity and pre-release info seriously misrepresented the nature of the instancing. FC encouraged the impression that this was a feature only of the early stages of the game, whereas in fact it is a central dynamic of the servers - you are not, as in for example WOW, actually in the same city with everyone else on the server, you're in a copy containing a slice of whoever's on. This is pretty big, and while many here deride WOW, it is possible in that game to have a sense of a shared world. The way zoning is handled in AoC is clearly anti-immersive on a number of levels. Now that obviously doesn't matter to some people, but it's a fun-killer for others, myslef included.
The other problem I see is a more general one for MMO's: WOW's art style is widely mocked, but it is highly unified and has a compelling physicality of character movement and interaction with the environment that Lotro and AoC seriously lack. What strikes me about both Lotro and AoC is that the pretty backgrounds and naturalistic avatars don't make up for, perhaps even contribute to, a sense of disconnect between the graphical elements. Things don't feel like they are together in a world.
In CGI circles, part of this issue has a name which I sadly can't remember (maybe someone can help me out): the idea is that the more "realistic " you make humanoid characters, the less expressive they appear. Fake is actually better at this point in the development of the art form. That may change, but it hasn't yet, and players keep hankering for "realism" without realizing that it's a problematic thing to want.
Anyway, that's my opinion for what little it's worth. I will leave it with one final, perhaps silly question: would this game have ever gotten so much pre-release support if it didn't feature blood, decapitation, and semi-nude women? Just askin'.
Peace all.
What I mean is there was a time you brought a game - took it home - dropped the CD in the drive and followed the prompts - and it worked! First time!
You played it until you finished with it (days, weeks or even months?) and that was that.
No need to look for tech support, no need to patch.
But now companies seem to regard the internet as a "crutch" to support their bad business practices.
I have no issue with companies using the internet to support a game - or update it - but they should not be using it as a way complete products which were released incomplete or broken.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
1) It's human nature -- negative feedback will always outnumber the positive, particularly in a game's opening month when everyone's got an opinion because everyone's just trying it out at once. You'll notice that, as a result, most of the arguments (from both sides) are about the same things so they just blend together.
2) Tied in with #1, this is the internet, where flamewars are common because you're not face-to-face. Flamewars are worse right now because the game is "all the talk" -- see comment about the game's "opening month"
This sort of thing is common to see with MMO launches. The best thing you can do is see through the emotion and sort opinionated facts from actual facts.
That is, if you bother to read them at all -- which gets really old, really fast.
I hope people learn what to expect for future MMO releases from aoc. Flaaaaaaaame warrrrrrrrs! Thats why you shouldnt even come here if your undecided, if you want to find meaningful facts, and weigh the pros/cons of the game, wait for proper reviews to come out. The games not for everyone, so the people who dont like it are just trying to get their value for money by ignorantly claiming the games for no one because it doesnt appeal to them.
We just gotta put up with them for a while and counter them so they dont get away with blatant ignorances and lies, we will soon see if this game will be successful or not, and who has won haters/fans. And then maybe ...gasp! this forum can go back to disscussion about the game.
I read somewhere (I think it was in PC Gamer - but not 100% certain) that the developers philosophy was that people valued graphics above all else. uhh - NO! Graphics with crappy gameplay makes the game worthless. Honestly, I don't think these graphics are all that. I think Guild Wars and Vanguard had better graphics. There is just little redeeming value in this game - and the fact that they try to build value by making the graphics better is laughable. Won't keep my subscription to this game.
This is just another Vanguard - it will be mostly gone in a year or two.
How about these:
1) AoC is just another unimaginative WOW-copy MMOG with conan-themed graphics.
2) Linear, highly instanced world - where is the "massively-multiplayer"? 48 players max per instance? WTF???
3) Lack of polish - where is the level 30+ content? caster itemisation? the game is unfinished
4) BUGS - no auction house/trader, working mail systems, graphics & map glitches - the game is unfinished
5) PVP? what a joke... the ability to be spawn camped forever because of bad game design - the game is unfinished
i could go on...
why are there so many abuses of large coloured font in this thread and why aren't these people banned?
Block works in the same manner. If only people stopped quoting them though ...
