Just wanted to say that the Tolkien Estate has no say in what goes in to the game...JRR Tolkien sold the liscensing rights before he died so they're the ones who make the rules. But that said no it would be stupid to see elves fighting hobbits and "factions" like SWG coming into play here. The devs have already said that it wont happen. You're either a freep or a creep if you want to pvp..there is another PvMP area coming with the expansion though.
Sorry, You are completely wrong. Tolkien Estates has complete control over this and Turbine has said so directly. Everything has to be passed through them for approval.
The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Tolkien Enterprises is the holder of worldwide motion picture, legitimate stage, merchandising, and other rights in J.R.R. Tolkien's literary works The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Tolkien Enterprises has been producing and licensing films, stage productions and merchandise based on Tolkien's works for almost 30 years. Its headquarters are in Berkeley, California, and its website may be found at www.tolkien-ent.com.
Sorry, but next time you want to say someone is "completely wrong" you might wanna do some research first lest you look the fool. Tolkien Enterprises has the liscensing rights for LOTR the Hobbit and all merchandising and have for years. The Tolkien Estate (JRR Tolkiens family) has no say in what goes into the game whatsoever. Tolkien Enterprises is actually being sued by the Tolkien Estate over the movie profits so Im sure you can tell they are not affiliated at all.
You are completely wrong.
Sorry...we had a miscommunication over Tolkien Estates and Tolkien Enterprises.

I know some people like to focus on pve and not be interrupted by a high level ganker, but they could keep your realms strictly pve. Adding factions and creating a pvp server would bring this game up to an another level. I love pve and pvp, but not having an equal balance of both brings no excitement to a game. I like the feeling of questing in and having to watch my back. I just hope they add another faction and a pvp server.
This is a horrible, horrible idea. A main PVE game for the evil side wouldn't work in LOTRO, and it would also take away resources from the freep PVE. I'm all for expanding the PVMP within the current framework, but completely redesigning the game just so that creeps can gank freeps when they are questing would be retarded. I'm sure there will be new PVMP areas and objectives in the Mines of Moria expansion, so we'll just have to wait and see what it is.
LOTRO does have factions, they just aren't equal faction. This is really a perfect way to do pvp for LOTRO. PVE games in general are much better when there aren't completely separate factions. You don't have to split content between two or more sides and you don't have to water anything down so that all sides can partake in the action. Not that that would even make the slightest bit of sense for LOTRO. Look at WOW. 99% of all the PVE content is the same for both factions. How would you do that in LOTRO? Have both sides attack invading aliens from outer space? Give me a break. Sauron and the free people do not share common enemies.
Ditto, expand the current infrastructure of PvMP, but do not allow invasive PvP. Couldn't have said it better mate.
Good lord, you want to split hairs about what to call them?
The entity/ies which control/s the copyrights and liscensing for multi-media projects and products in relation to the written works of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien were consulted and had final approval, as reported in the New York Times.

Or is that not quite specific enough for you?
Its not splitting hairs at all son, Tolkien Enterprises is an independent company that bought the rights to LOTR and The Hobbit a long time ago, Tolkien Estate are the authors immediate family members, the latter is suing the former, its hard to get much seperate than that, hard to say that is "splitting hairs". Just because the name is similiar doesnt mean anything, especialy if you want to be correct, as I was, after the other dude told me I was completely wrong. Im right, and I like being right, specifically. It happens a lot so get used to it.
Having open pvp would completely ruin the lore of the game. A band of orc's attacking the Shire... yeh right.
Pure carnage!
Ok, so in reality you aren't really interested in the story of the Lord of the Rings and just some sort of generic pvp game.
Using words like "Carebear" is dismissive and a bit narrow minded don't you think? I personally love pvp and Play Lineage 2 for pvp. However, I wouldn't want to see LOTRO do anything that turned it into some sort of junky pvp battleground with a Lord of the Rings wrapper where you would just play for a bit and then move on to the next thing.
If you think about it you might agree as I'm sure you have seen all the junk that is being created nowadays in the form of movies, TV, games, etc. Just a regurgitation of the same concepts for easier consumption by the masses.
And "yes" LOTRO does have a bit of this as it follows many traditional mmo gameplay conventions. Howevrer, the inclusion of the story and the metering out of the pvp elements keeps things a bit more substantial.
No BGs... Just another faction and a pvp server. I actually love pve focus games with a little world pvp on the side.
Then why don't you go play one and leave us alone ??.the game plays as it was intended to,as they said it would,as it tells you in all the ads and on the box..what part of that did you not understand ??

Go play AoC Why do you want PvP in Middle Earth, we are supposed to defend ourselves against the evil, not to grief each other

It doesnt matter how many PvP games there are out there, the PvPers always show up at the PvE games doors demanding it be changed to suit them.

Of what relevance is that to the discussion at hand?
Does it change the reality that there is an entity which has the power to veto aspects of the game which violate the lore of Tolkien's writings, and entity which would not and did not give the approval for full PvP servers?
The name of that entity is besides the point. Everyone here understood the point. Your 'rightness' on the name of the entity is about as important to the discussion as if you had taken issue with my punctuation choices. So yea, you are just splitting hairs to be a nit-picky smart ass. You're kind of 'right' is very small and petty, so please do suck what little enjoyment there is in being that kind of right.

Errr wahhh cry more? It became relevant when someone decided to challenge me on the point and say I was wrong. There is no "different kinds of right" tool, when it comes to facts. You're either right or you're wrong. Someone said I was wrong and I proved otherwise...why are you crying about it? I guess we should just call off that lawsuit since, by your logic, both entities are pretty much the same anyways since they have a similar name and to identify one from the other is being a "nit picky smart ass". Im sure both parties will be pleased to hear of your relevelation and they can now become friends.
And by the way, if you care to read my first post I just in general made a correction which proceeded my original point. The dude who made the mistake said there was miscommunication. As far as Im concerned the point was dead then, and then you come out of the blue ranting about god knows what. You're not achieving anything besides just wanting to start a fight, and Ill be more than happy to oblige you, you wont win. Or you can just STFU and move along..either way I dont really care.
