Looking for a MMO that has random loot table/world drops (but not WoW) any out there?

Roland_AsephRoland_Aseph Member UncommonPosts: 137

Hi guys,

Like the title says, looking for a MMO that I have a "chance" of getting a good Rare or nice World type drop:

"World drop "

A world drop is a drop that has a random chance to drop off any mob or chest (within a certain level range) anywhere in the world. World drops are largely impossible to farm for because no specific mob or group of mobs have a more than a minuscule chance of dropping the item. While most World Drops are usually a drop of uncommon quality (green) or better, this is not universal.

I'd just like to play a game where you can get a surprise every now and then and get a good item to use or sell.

WoW has a pretty good system for this...but I'm looking for something new and different.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Regards

RA

Asheron's Call.  Some of the best random drop loot anywhere.  No color codes to confuse it either.  You actually have to pay attention to what you loot.

Asherons Call. Absolutely the best ever random loot drop and loot system ever. Game is aging beyond what most people will accept, however it is still the greatest mmo ever in so many aspects of the game design.

Guild Wars is pretty awesome with loot as the run of the mill golds are super easy to obtain and more often than not much more desirable than the named greens which drop off of bosses.

I love it when you have a chance at getting some decent loot off of just a regular mob.  Even if it's a low chance, it taunts the gambler in me and keeps me interested and forging ahead.

I looted a really nice purple weapon in WOW once running through a zone.  I caught agro and killed him so he would stop bugging me, and whatcha know but this really cool axe dropped.  Games that only drop cool stuff off the bosses are so boring to grind.  And sometimes, that's all I want to do after a hard day of work.  Just zone out mentally and kill mob after mob and pretend work didn't really happen....lol...better than taking a hit off a bong I guess.  Maybe.

DDO, other than Raid loot and a few specific named items all loot is randomly generated, you never know when your going to get a good pull :)

    Thanks for the suggestions :)

I plan on looking into several of those mentioned.

How about games like Archlord or Shaiya, or 2Moons, Cabal...do the F2P games normally try and keep the good drops as a Premium Item that needs to be purchased?

What would be the best way to tell how a game handles the loot table/drops? Without having to play for a lengthy amount of time, is there a way? Or is word of mouth on the forums the fastest and most reliable source for info?

I'm just wondering if there's a "term" I should be looking for as I read up about a game that I not aware of , that would help me know ;)

Thanks again for the suggestions so far. I'm interested in Rohan and it just happened to go into OB mode so that was fortunate :)

AC, I don't know much about as that was before I began an interest in MMO's, but I'll look it over, Gameplay trumps graphics imo

    RA :)

ps - I have played GW in the past too, so looking for a different title that's new to me, but that was a good suggestion ;)

Wait a second... Has there ever been an MMO that DIDN'T have good random item drops?

Well what I'm getting at is where you have a "chance" to get a very nice or rare or even Fantastic drop by chance...slim as it might be ;)

Most games that I'm familiar with set the loot tables with random "standard" gear or items, but require you to do Boss Runs or Raids and such to acquire the better gear, which is fine. But it's nice to have a chance to get a surprise with a very good item that you can either use or sell.

    That's what I'm asking.

So in answer yes, there are many MMOs where the loot drops are Normalized per say. WoW has the loot table I described, but I'm looking for something different and new (or old) that has a similar system.

Been playing AoC a bit, interesting game. Will be more interesting to see how they deal with the loot issue. Pretty bland stuff and not much variation in stats over a large lvl gap. I think crafting and socketing will play a pretty big role, but that remains to be seen.

I really enjoy ARPGs like DiabloII and Titan Quest, Sacred...would love to find a MMO that has this type of item randomization and prefix/suffix type modifiers.

    So I'm asking :)

I'm really not sure how to find out how a game does their drops/loot table easily...seems that most don't really go into detail about such things.

So I've come to the experts who have knowledge of games I haven't played, with hopes of finding one that will catch my eye ;)

I'll be experimenting with Rohan this evening and looking forward to it.

Well, while there IS random loot it seems in Rohan, it also looks like to get a Rare or Unique item one must use the Crafting Upgrade method through the Master Smith or gain it through a Boss fight.

Not that that's bad...but I was hoping that there would be a "chance" for random rares to drop from any mob or at least some ;)

Have a lvl 13 Knight and I'm enjoying the game (playing a bit of Shaiya and Archlord as well...will stick with it for a while, like I said I am having fun and that's what matters right? ;)

    Regards2All

And if anyone knows of a MMO that does have a true random loot table plz post, btw here's an interesting article about this very topic I found:

    http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/10/03/the-pros-and-cons-of-set-loot-tables/

The Wrath of the Lich King might suck me back to WoW for a bit lol The Death Knight looks fun ;)

But I'll probably be playing too much Warhammer Online by then to care (hopefully) heh

Eq2 has both random and non-random loot tables. Zones (like group or raid instances) have a loot-able and stuff drops from that table.  This is the non-random part.

The 'random' part is that you have a small chance of getting the so called Master upgrades from all monsters. Master upgrades are upgrades to your spells and combat arts, and is pretty much the best upgrade there is. Every monster has a chance of dropping these, although the chance is fairly small.

Every monster can also drop LoN cards for the card came. While this is irrelevant if you don't play the card game, you can sell them for a pretty nice profit on the broker (Auction house).

I'm not sure if this is enough for you, but there is a bit :)
