After Requiem

Now that Requiem is doing a wipe and such I have decided to stop playing and move onto a new game. Surely thats the idea but I cannot find any game at all that I like.... (Im over with Cabal/2moons/Requiem/Flyff/and more)

I am looking for a game with flashy/cool looking/eye candy skills with a good amount of equipments, good quality graphics, and a good PvM system, needs pvp too but not as important.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Well, Age of Conan is kind of the elephant in the room.  Take a look at that, if it seems like your thing.

Oh lemme add: I don't mind p2p games :) Also, I did check out AoC on youtube and such but it doesn't seem all that attractive. I can't seem to think its possible to have nice flashy skills in a game that realistic. And it would be best if the game has a medium gameplay (lvling not too slow, not too fast, reasonable speed)

lol you play the games I like to play.  Personally, I decided to only test Requiem since they said there will be a wipe.  Requiem is probably one of the better games because of its long development cycle and non-localized nature.  Here is a list of suggestions you can look at.

    • NavyFIELD - This game is really challenging.  There are so many things to track its crazy.
    • Mabinogi - The combat system is unique, and its skill system is open ended.  However, the graphics and point and click are dated.
    • Sword of the New World - As hard as you make it with its very fluid combat system and multi-character control.  Graphics are simply stunning although maps are boxed in.
    • Dream of Mirror Online

try a p2p game this time.

    you will see the difference

if you like asian games try: lineage 2 or Final Fantasy 11

if you like western games try: WoW, EQ2, Vanguard and DAOC

also if you like sci-fi try: EVE

    Thanks for your replies

Edit: I don't mind if its a bit cartoonish like Flyff, but much prefer things look more like "normal" mmos :p

    Any more recommendations?

Rohan Online yes :) I am currently playing it but I really doubt this game will last me more then a day or 2 :S It does have many similer points when you compare it to Requiem but something is miss, or lack. And its really buggy in game right now :S

Well with Lineage 2 you have to work for your equipment and levels. It takes a pretty long while to level if your just going to play solo. What i meant by working for your equipment is that the equipment you find in stores are really expensive and you have to pay attention to the tax on the area too, which will differ from each town you visit. If you plan on trying the game, find a clan that you would like to join and the leveling will pass by and you wont have to worry about getting equipment if its a nice clan. Oh i forgot to mention some other things too, you dont have to worry about getting help from lvl 1-20 since the game developers added in newbie helpers. I believe from lvl 8-39 you get newbie buffs and from lvl 6 you can get some pretty good starting weapons from npcs that would do well from lvl 6-24 i guess. So check around the Lineage 2 website for a little bit and decide if you would like to try it or not and dont let those bad comments people say about Lineage 2 stop you from at least trying out the game. I hope you have a fantastic time in Lineage 2.

On official server, Lineage 2 is HARD. I mean very hard. Played for a month on official (coming from layed back private servers) and I was like: "DAMN!"

In L2 you have to work for your equipment, the grinding is hard, money hard to get, full items drop very hard, anyone can PK you. I mean it, you can be like lvl 2, if you're out in the open a lvl 70+ russian guy with A grade armor on him CAN kill you without anyone to stop him.  Also quests are pretty annoying and not worth doing.

Other than that it's a great game, beautifull graphics, doesn't require a strong PC, the PvP is awsome, lots of unique skills/buffs and classes, sieges, a few fun things to do, it's newbie friendly, clans are the heart of the comunity.

If you enjoy solo korean style grinding and strategic PvP than Lineage 2 is the game for you.

Also try out some private highrate servers to get the hang of things.

I was interested in seeing what Requim was like, as I heard that it was a Horror-themed MMO.  Is it any good?  How does the horror angle work?  Also, how is the gameplay, and is it like other free2play games in that they are grind based?

    As to recommendations.  Well from the games that you have played, these are what I suggest you try;

pay2play - you might like Lineage2, and also Final Fantasy XI.  Both are pretty hardcore, but if you managed to get high level in those others, then you should be okay with these.  Out of the two of them, try L2 if you prefer pvp content, or FFXI if you like pve, quests, and grouping.  Both are good titles though.

free2play- if you have not tried them already, then there is Shaiya Online, which is virtually a carbon copy of L2.  The graphics, and game-style are almost identical.  However, for some reason I still prefer L2.  It is a good choice though if you don't want to pay for a subscription.  Also there is a new MMORPG that is slightly different from those others, but not that different that you will not like the playstyle.  It is called SHO Online.  It mixes western style of quest-play, with the more traditional grind-style of Asian games.  Worth checking out.

At the moment I am really enjoying playing Lord of the Rings Online.  However, I don't think that you will like it much, as it is more suited towards casual play.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you try any of these, what you think of them.

Requiem has its merits.  You can tell that when they were making it, it was originally intended as a p2p game but changed revenue plans.  It is actually fast to level, some people in the month long closed beta achieved max level.  It also currently has alot of quest content until level 40.  Although the quests are kinda generic.

Its also alot better to play then your korean grinder for the simple reason of WASD controls.

Graphically, the environments are poor but the character graphics are top notch.

In its merits, Requiem has some of the most interesting instances of any mmo.  Its equipment system is also a step up and it pretty much does away with junk drops.  Nightmare is an interesting aspect to get people to party.  Beast possessions and DNA also offer a form of character customization.  Also the host company is a subsidary with its own localization development staff meaning you will get updates on a regular basis, and you don't have to wait 6 months on a simple fix while having unique content from the foriegn versions.

However, it has one of the worst 1~10 experiences.  The game really doesn't pick up until level 14.  This poor noobie experience is on par with EVE.

Very true about Requiem. One -con- I need to add though. Its a Horror MMORPG, but there isn't anything really "Horror" about it :p Its just your everyday grinder with more blood and bodies that shakes for a good 6 seconds after you sliced it into two.

After seeing so much comments on Lineage II I am really inspired to try it out, I think will do so within the next few days.

I did try out Shaiya a while back but during that time it wasn't too appealing. I think I might try it out again before moving into Lineage II.

    thanks for all your help.
