the key word in this is STAGNANT. Main reason I left WoW was the pitiful amount of time it has taken them to add content. Makes me wonder where my monthly fee is going, especially with a such a high profile game as WoW. I actually think this is what truly will kill WoW and already IS killing WoW. Sad too, since I really enjoyed this game, but the game has to grow otherwise it turns into pondwater.

The bottom line is wow wont die. It holds more then half of all MMO Subs. It will take hella to kill it.

It just goes to show that WoW is allways going to be a endless grinding game and eventually people are going to see through this and move to other mmos.

WoW's biggest problem, and its future failure, is the community.  There is no real community in game because:

    1) No houseing - people who live close togther begin to watch out for one another and become "tight" which builds bonds.  WoW has no social side.

    2) Reaching max level is possible solo. If you dont need others you tend NOT to care about them.

    3) Everything is static.  Nothing you do can change the game, so why care?

Compare wow's community to EQ2's, and you see a world of difference.

I think the only way it will die is if Blizzard really, really screw up.

    ?

here we go again. wow will die when the 10 million people who play it dies. as long as it is making money it will stay up. this is the only way.

    Never going to happen.

I canceled awhile ago.  I still check out the forums once and awhile.  The best of WoW is behind us.  It's simply a legendary game a few developers put their heart and soul into, turned into a marketing ploy to suck up that last penny.

Like this OP mentioned the PvE PvP seperation was a huge mistake.  No point in Pveing if PvP is your thing.  I personally enjoyed doing both, but the resilience locked you into one or the other.

    The e-sport is a joke.

There's no depth in the game besides gear.  No evolution in the game.  No fights for cities.  Nothing but pointless PvE objectives that are considered "world PvP"

Oh ya I hear they're adding pvp zone.  I can tell you that will be a complete failure right now cause I know Blizzard's idea of world pvp.

It will be a pit in the middle of nowhere, with no ties to the actual world, and people will go for a few pieces of gear the first couple weeks.  After that most will begin the locust swarm back to battlegrounds for their leet uber gearz.  After 2 months the pvp zone will be an empty shell of nothingness.

I probably sound bitter.  That's cause I am.  I enjoyed this game for awhile, but found myself stuck getting bored with, but aiming for that next piece.  It's a shallow game.

It's your soccer mom's MMO.  It's the McDonald's of MMOs.  Most likely you'll find you like Jack in the Box burgers better, but everyone can get something out of McDonalds.

Hehe so old and so stupid.....

WoW won't die until Blizzard decides it shall die.

Those people with their grudges to the game are the minority by not a mile but by worlds apart. 10.7 million, and still increasing, are playing/enjoying this game.

The typical "TBC was death of WoW" was used before TBC was launched, guess what happened since then? They increased the subs by a few million, the irony.....

I'm not playing WoW any more but it was a great game, just that you can't have strawberries all the time, you'll get bored from it eventually. But most likely always come back to the new expansions.

I left WoW a couple months ago for the fourth or fifth time. The game is fun and i enjoyed exploring the world. But the community was lacking. Would probably still play if i could find a solid guild of non raiders or even a raiding guild who didn't have an attitude problem and treat the game like a job. I have played UO,AC,EQ,DAoC,AO,CoH/CoV,LotR,Shadowbane,GW and some free to plays i can't remember and WoW was fun but nothing compared to  the enjoyment I used to get from DAoC.

when games old mmo's is still running I don't believe WoW will die unless ofcourse Blizzard themself pull the plug which I don't think will happen. WoW will stay as many other mmo's regardless if there's only a couple of thousands people left play the game.. or in DS a couple of hundreds but still fun to play. :P

Right... wow will die if blizzard shutt down the server. Wow was the first love for many, so they will keep playing it, no matter what other games come out

  • Alan0nAlan0n Member Posts: 576

I agree the ressiliance and seperating the PVE and PVP content is huge failure.  I think WOTLK will take care of the rest.  There is absolutly nothing new coming from the devs now.  Its the same old, same quests - some flying quests, and more daily quests...  New class will take care of making the game even more unbalanced.  New pointless PVP map where the classes that are able to get easy arena gear will dominate....  No thx.  Its simply not what ppl are after longterm.

Last few months have redused the subs by probably like 4 millilons at least.  PPl have had enough now and I doubt Blizzard can sell them anything when ppl realise that there are other MMos out there with diffrent content.

Nope. Won't even happen if a WoW 2 is released. You'll have people who refuse to change because they've sunk so much time into WoW1.

    Example, Everquest and Everquest 2.

Even Dark and Light with all its failings is still active..

I dont know what you all say but 2 of the 3 servers that i have characters have dropped from FULL to MEDIUM the moment AoC got released. Obvisously many people left for AoC straight away... Also now i see far more Medium servers than Full if you compare it to how many there were before...

Will those people stay with AoC? Will even more people abandon WoW? Will those people come back to WoW? We will see...

I have a feeling that people play WoW because they dont like something else not because they like WoW...

Haven't read any posts here but., my 5 cents to the OPs question is. I don't want it to die. Please let the majority of the Wow community stay right where they are.

WotLK will do for ORGANISED and BALANCED world PvP what TBC did for Arena PvP.
Of course the fact that you don't find any information on WotLK on MMORPG.COM is proof these forums are habited by the most fervent marginal % of Wow haters on the planet.
The result is these Wow haters play old, non polished, closed up  and very badly developped products which are far behind anything Blizzard is already planning.
Just ONE example: WAR doesn't even have flying units, nor underwater worlds, NO mounted combat.
Blizzard already confirms: Air bombardments over the players battlefields, sea battles AND party manned tanks, together with ALL the artillery siege weapons they had in WC3.
Now THAT is what I call PvP.

Sorry we know Blizzard's idea of world pvp.  It's a boring joke aimed at keeping all the pvp secluded from the rest of the world.

If people didn't catch on within the first month or so of BC what WoW's model was going to be they are far to dense. It is obvious that they will continue to outdate stuff and make vendors sell stuff better for the grind. It is a circle that Blizzard is very good at (Make someone want to achieve the best) then give the masses the best so they don't feel special and rinse repeat.

People constantly struggling to the top just to have the top dropped down and a new top created. It is rather genius, and even though I absolutely hate WoW now and think blizzard screwed the pooch on it I don't think it will die due to the endless amount of nonsense content they can add that was just in the latest dungeon now given to all.

I still remember playing WoW a year after release and finding lvl 60's who didn't know that MC existed. People are just ignorant and enjoy the cartoon easy feel and over all easiness of the game. What more can you expect.

Mmorpgs generally don't die- they always have subscribers. And WC3 still has players today, so that will likely be a future WoW scenario.

So when will WoW start to decline is a better question. The answer is when people start getting bored, past what WoW can provide with freshness in terms of their expansions. They're still on their second expansion.. Maybe at a guess, a few years after this latest expansion or sometime after the third or forth.

Additionally, it should be noted that new players outnumbering the players leaving buoy up the subscribing figure. So when the number of new players start dwindling that should also be a pointer when the mmo may have reached I think 'maturity' is the stage.

Lol, good saying, you're only a victim though if you let the title victimize you.

Warhammer Online will probably bruise WoW pretty bad and then WoW will make bad decisions in trying to get new content in the game to combat the WAR epidemic and then players will be disappointed leading to a slow painful death of WoW.  Just a thought.......lol

It's dead to me.  It's a nice lil mainstream mmo, but there's always a better game then wow out there for you personal preferences.

The world was fun right up until BC when they just said, it's time to milk this for every last penny.
