Running 2 Machines from the one connection? How is it done?

TamalanTamalan Member Posts: 1,117

A spin off from my big winge/appeal for help post....

If you are currently running 2 accounts on 2 machines on the same net connection successfully, how are you doing it?

What router are you using? etc

Info required please from successful multi-account households!

I've done it succesfully via Netgear wgr614 in the past, but haven't tried recently as I'm down to a single account.

That's what I use, can run up to 4 computers from one connection.

You also need to have a dynamic IP instead of a static one, so that each computer will have a different IP.

You don't need dynamic IPs (though you probably have one anyway).

OP, who is your service provider, cable? This sort of thing is very common nowadays and they generally talk you through the process themselves.

Hi, I've been running CoH/CoV on 2 machines (2 seperate accounts) over the same net connection for a while.. I'm on Virgin Broadband and am using a D-Link DI-624 Router (both machines connected via ethernet cables to the router).  I recently had connection problems due to the old NTL 100 Cable Modem, it kept dropping the signal every now and again, but this was  fixed by Virgin giving me a new modem.

Neither machine was set up with a static IP or port forwarding until a couple of days ago, now just 1 machine has these - doesn't seem to make much difference, except the one set up now tends to hog all the bandwidth lol.

Have you tried checking your Firewall settings to see if there's an exception for CoH/CoV? If you're using Windows Firewall go to Exceptions, Add Program then select CoH/CoV and click OK. Also you could try clicking "Verify All FIles" on the CoH Updater to make sure all the files are there and working properly.

There has been a 'map desync bug' problem with CoX since Issue 12 http://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1100190&an=0&page=0#Post1100190 .

    Hope this helps.

Im also on Virgin Media, if i connect to my set-top box directly with one comp, all is well. The problem seems to be my router, as soon as that is brought into the equation I cant get beyond character selection.

Its all very odd though, have successfully played quite a few MMO's with both machines on the same set-up with no problems whatsoever.

Must be something about CoX my router (Sweex RO002) doesnt like - just wish i knew what it was!

Big thank you to those that replied offering advice, still havnt sorted the router problem but found a workaround by sharing the net connection directly from one machine to another, took the router out of the equation completely.

    Works like a charrm :)

    See you in Paragon City!
