ok so I have had this game since release and have yet to really get into it due to lack of being able to party with anyone.
I am re-subbing tonight with the hopes of being able to actually get to end game.
I am on the diabolos server.
I do not remember what my characters name was but will post here later after patching, in hopes that I can find others that are interested in playing the game together either from where I left of or from the beginning.
just a little side note, my play style is casual/semi hardcore.

Seriously, one matter that is being looked at and always discard right away is
in FFXI, your success require you own effort.
Sitting LFG for 8 hours staring at some manga or TV mean nothing.
Taking initiative is what make you stand out and success... start the groups yourself! then pass the leadership around! basically all that is to it in FFXI leveling.
If you are SHY or "socially outcast" you can either ask someone to start a group or don't play this.
Just like in the real world, Shy people will always get last, and never success even if they are a genius, you can't do anything on your own without any other help.

I never once said I was shy or was not capable of trying to make my own groups. I have tried that song and dance before, and even still sometimes it takes hours to get a good group going.
The main idea behind this post was to find others that would like to group together and help each other out in game.
I guess I can cross you off that list
