I'm subscribed to a traditional MMO and I enjoy the killing of many mobs and the looting, but lately I've been taking a break here and there to play something different. Project Torque is a persistant online racing MMO. You start with a noob car and then race various tracks against other players. As you gain RP points you upgrade the performance and looks of your ride. You also take tests to increase the level of your license wich opens up new tracks and gear. The graphics are really well done and the frame rate is consisstantly high even on a modest machine. The game is free. (has the ability to buy in game points but really not needed)

I tried it and actually liked it. Ill be playing it a lil. Its cool!
Project Torque is unique in its idea in the sense that EA tried once prior to create a racing MMO which was well liked but, not well accepted as is evident in the cancellation of the game. The game engine is amazing, the physics the car models the scenery all stellar. Frame rates at high lvls for older systems as well as eye candy for all the newer boxes. I was very impressed with the wide variety of options upgrades as well as car types and some licensed vehicle types from toyota. Had an MR-2 when I was younger and being able to pseudo drive it again is very nostalgic, I digress, the game concept is straight forward race win earn cash for upgrades etc. The actual accomplishment of this is much more challenging. The physics behave in a believable manner meaning that the car will move on you, unlike most racing games with forgiving car movement. This game really puts you up to the challenge of actual driving as opposed to gas brake and some pseudo steering. I love the micro payment setup as well it allows you some bonuses but does not take away from the basic fun of the game. By far the short track oval race known as Thunder Alley was one of my favorite races. You all start with the same sprint type car and the trick is to out drive the other guy. Drafting, fuel consumption, driving line, sheer timing all factor in to the racing. Do you pit early to refuel or try to stick it out another lap see if you can force others to pit early and gain ground, do you draft this guy another lap to conserve fuel or pass him now hoping that he will pit and not follow in your wash only to use your blunder to force you to pit early? Overall the game is top notch for a free based MMO. The only down side I've seen so far is the skill curve. There isn't really a starter setup for new players. This being said any driving fan will not have much difficulty with the game in a sense and most non race types will learn rather quickly as well. There is also a test drive area that allows you to test out new vehicles you cannot get or want to try before you buy. I would highly recommend this to any racing fan especially you NFS players. The game isn't as forgiving but, you get to see how good you really are with no crutches to help you out.
Holymoses
PT had just had some major upgrades and is better than ever.
Yea I saw that a while back I've been unable to play in a couple weeks due to Inet connection but I cannot wait to get back in and try my skills

Its good to play one of these simpler arena type sports games then constantly playing 1 mmo. They are nice and casual a good break from the grind. Some that I liked were Albatross 18, NavyField, and Gunbound.
Exactly. I've never been much of a racing fan but this game has be hooked. I play AOC with my guild but we use PT as our downtime game. Just got to lvl 21...those licenses are challenging.
