Hey guys. I am currently playing AoC, but things just arent looking too good for the future of the game, so I am taking a look at War, and I have a few questions that i haven't been able to find answers to.
1. I am a hardcore crafter. I love crafting and making money in mmos. What will crafting in War be like? Will the gear actually compare if not better looted gear? Will there be ways to obtain higher end recipes for instance through raid drops, pvp, or just random world drops? What crafting professions will there be? For instance armorsmith, weaponsmith, etc. How does one advance their crafting profession?
2. Housing. Will there be housing, guild halls, or anything like that in War?
3. Server types. Will all servers have the RvR pvp? If so how will PvP servers be different from PvE servers if they even make seperate server types. What other server types will there be?
Thanks.

1. Hardcore crafters will not find a home in WAR. While the crafting is going a different path its not a major focus and its so far only for potions & talisman making. They've said it themselves the best gear is from RvR..so crafted gear if they add it..will not compare. (which is why they probably won't add it)
2. No....and I doubt we'll see it any time soon. Guilds get to own Keeps (which are siegable all the time) so thats about it in the guild area...soldiers need to be on the battlefield anyway and not playing susie homemaker (thats the whole premise for the game).
3. Right now only the Core Server (set areas to RvR / PvP & PvE, though you can flag yourself to RvR anywhere you want) is confirmed and possibly a Full RvR server (meaning you can rvr / pvp without having to flag yourself in the PvE areas *basically open pvp*). THere's currently no discussion on any other types of servers.
hardcore crafting. I'd suggest you give EVE a try. the single best game for crafters I know about right now. WAR is all about smashing heads, so it may not be the right fit for you.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
As a hardcore crafter you could give WAR a try - the thing is you'll never quite know what you're going to get as a final product. You'd spend most of your time gathering ingredients and selling the final product, not leveling up your craft level (not sure that even exists in WAR).
Other games might suit you better, but with the splash WAR is going to make, there will be a lot of people on the servers, meaning a large demand for perishable crafted goods. It might be worth a shot for you. After all, you may end up loving how RvR goes, and being a "supply person" for your organization or other groups in the war effort.
Thanks for the replys. If there will be very little crafting in the game how will players make money? Or will money not really have a place in War?
As far as crafting goes, you should watch the crafting video by Mark Jacobs (General Manager, EA Mythic and Lead Designer, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning). The video will bring you up to speed on everything regarding crafting in WAR. Here is a link to that video:

As for server types, I send you once again to a question/answer segment I did with Mark Jacobs recently:
Warhammer Conflict: There have been reports/speculation that WAR will have different types of servers. For example: Role-playing servers. "Core" servers. "Free for all" servers. So, will there be different types of servers to choose from,? If so, which types of server-types will there be?
Mark Jacobs: Right now we are hoping to have RP servers, Core and a modified RvR ruleset. I can guarantee that RP and Core are absolutely in and we’ll see about the variants. We will not have a FFA (free for all) server at launch.
Hope this helped.
From all we've seen so far money will be a bit less important in WAR than what is the norm in MMORPGs.
The economy is going to be largely achievement-based in the form of renown, guild xp etc. Your personal and group achievements (non transferable) are going to be the prime source of all the best gear, skills etc. I suppose money is going to be used mostly for cosmetic purposes like armor dyes, maybe crafting materials etc.
And on another note while there is no housing and keep "ownership" probably won't last more than a day, the long term permanent achievements will be represented by various trophies and titles as well as guild banners that can have buffs and all kinds of accessories on them.
Mark pretty much covered it. Money is going to be taking a backseat in WAR...too bad so sad for the gold farmers.
But that isnt a bad thing. I love having enough money for the cool stuff. But I am sure we still see drops and such since there will be AH's and potions and such will be sellable. As of right now I think everything is kinda wait and see for the economy.
WAR is not for you based on that info.
either eve or vanguard.
Raises a good point. What is the function of economy going to be for WAR? Purchase banners? Purchase health/ mana pots?
Is Reknown the currency of gear?
So why have money in WAR?
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I think most ppl flock to Warhammer Online because of it RvR PvP system. You can lay siege and there will be loot and pillage. But people are there for a good fight. I really don't care much for the treasure or the spoils of war. I wanna lay siege to great dwaren fortress and visit the grand Emperor of the Empire. Gold you say?, naay that are just a bonus. You can take the paymaster chest, I gonna grab that big hammer instead.
Renown is NOT like honor in WoW, you don't spend it. You earn it and it gives you renown ranks. Getting the rank unlocks what you can buy, which will be bought with normal currency, and banner scraps.
Siege weapons have to bought. Basic crafting ingreadiants can be bought as well. We don't know for sure, but more then likely you will ahve to repair your gear as well.
Also keep upgrades will take gold, and probably buying your banner for the first time will as well.
it is basicly to early to tell, but not having craftable gear doesn't mean there isn't anything to buy or that there won't be an economy. Also drops can be sold to other plays as well.
1.There won't be armor,weapon-crafting at launch but they wish to implement those kind of craft;although it's reductive to say there's a little crafting in WAR(check out www.warhammeronline.com for more explanations). 2.Same thing about housing,re-read about armor/weapon crafting, but it seems thre will be some kind of guild hall. 3.So far sure type servers:two, roleplaying and Core ruleset.Under discussion type of server:PvP(RvR)ruleset.
Guys u cant really say that WAR is not suitable for a hardcore crafter, u will know as soon as the game is complete.
And yeah EvE is the perfect game for HC Crafters so u should give it a try till WAR is released
I think its fair enough to say from what we have seen and such. Considering there is only 2 things you can make and thats pots and talismans , no way can it be crafting heavy.
No Guild halls however there is a tavern set aside for Guilds to meet, make alliances, and chat back and forth and plan attacks and such, with-in these Taverns will be the banners of the top ten (or nine) guilds for total renown (this is updated every week i think . as well as a section of the city (near the player statues) for the TOP guild in renown Xp (that is why i am not sure if the top guild is placed with in the tavern.
1. As the others have said, you will find a very different type of crafting here than in other games, for one you cannot make armours and weapons here, just Potions and Talismans. Talismans, however, seems to be quite interesting as they are a bit like "enchanting" in WoW, only better as you can destroy old items and preserve one of their best quality to then apply it to a new item of yours.
(like... you had a sword with nice stats that also had a.... say... flaming damage. Now you get a new sword that has better stats but no flaming damage, you can destroy the previous sword, take the flaming effect off and make a talisman with it, then apply the talisman to the new sword to have a better flaming sword)
Check out the mark jacobs video to know all we know about crafting. It looks quite entertaining, dunno if it will be enough for you, but hey.
2. There are keeps for guilds and a special Inn where guilded persons can meet to coordinate their efforts, that is about all so far.
3. there are RP servers confirmed, nothing else so far.
