I am enjoying AoC and taking my time to level. But honestly the bugs are there in game as well as the content that is not. I like this game but Funcom needs to get the gears going which I feel they are doing. Besides WoW will be a very large game for some time to come. They are adding Russia. In the scheme of things I honestly could care less about WoW. I really can't agree with the OP.
I consider WoW a completely different genre because it basically holds an equal amount of players compared to every other MMO out there combined. But us of this "MMO" community compared to the "WoW" community are getting tired of it. It's a great game but we all have different tastes. If we consider WoW in this community (which it technically is) than I'd say it's definitely still king and will remain king... AoC as is is nowhere near comparable. WoW is the king of it's own genre, though. Like I said, many of us are sick of it, the other half of MMO gamers not subscribed to WoW.
Don't forget though that 4/5 of the worldwide WoW player base are Asian gold farmers which leaves only 2 million subscribers for all other continents that are non-Asia.
Break it down into those numbers and WoW isn't so impressive. Remember the next time you're looking to buy something in the AH and see it for 5x what it should sell for you can thank the 8 million Asian gold farmers that brought your <insert gear> auction price up through the roof.
Once players stop buying gold for real dollars and the Asian gold farmers have all their fancy gold selling websites shut down you will see WoW's player base drop.

Although a great deal of WoW players are gold farmers they certainly don't make 4/5th's of WoW's population. Probably not even 1/5th... though they do make a good number, nowhere near as much as you exaggerate it to be.
I thought similarly as well, but I learned that 10 million is pretty much accurate when it comes to people actually playing.... probably around somewhere from 8 to 9 are actually playing if I were to guess.

Thats funny and told made up. 4/5ths? I hope you are being sarcastic. That means 4 out of 5 players are gold farmers? Really?
If that was the case, then how come I have not seen a gold farmer or spammer for the last few days on my server? And when I left Age of Conan, I was getting 10-20 messages a day left off-line by gold spammers. Offline messages will be so badly abused by gold farmers in Age of Conan it won't even be funny.
I can see it now: create account, spam everyone with offline gold farmer messages, delete account. It will be very hard for devs to track down. Oh well, just another example of the broken systems that permeate Age of Conan for the time being. I hope things get better and only time will tell. I wish AOC and its players the best of luck but the reason I left AOC is because its broken gaming systems reminded me of the greatest, most hyped game to date that turrned into a nightmare of broken systems and gameplay. I won't name it but, like the dev company that released it, both had 3 letters in their name.
Sorry, my numbers were a little off...

i mean you have about 8 dead servers with players leaving in droves.
you have funCON now only doing an update on the game once a week or so.
age of conan is going to die i give it untill the end of the year and funCON will pull the plug after the xbox 360 copy of the game bombs along with the xbox 360.

IMO it isnt the king of MMO's but it is the best at the moment.
this game will NEVER reach above 4 million unless they do a hell of alot before they release on xbox and i prosume that in in 2 years the xbox version will have 90% of the subs to this game if they do the xbox version right which they probably will because its easier than making it for pc.
i see a trend
subs
Months
1-700000
2-615000
3-600000
4-590000
5-400000 (war releases)
month 6 to ? (when ever Aoc for xbox releases) going anywhere from 400000 to 300000
xbox version releases 1,000,000 minimum
and going in an upward trend in pc and xbox sales.
i see it that way hopefully it will work out for AoC that way.
WoW had 1.5 millions 4 months after relase. AoC already has 700k after 1 month. Impressive! I did not expect to see a WoW killer that soon!
Not to play the part of the WoW fanboy. But, people seem to forget that the response was initially so high for Blizzard that they stopped shipping game boxes for almost a couple of months (either that was their method of slowing new subscriptions or they had run out). They couldn't bring up new servers fast enough at first. In fact, there was a window that you couldn't find a single box in stores and there were pages and pages of posts on the forums for people trying to locate copies for their friends. So, probably the real test is to see what subscriptions look like at 6 months (or even a year).

wow.. You can't really be serious... This game has lost over 80% of it's initial players already, anyone with half a brain is not gonna continue subbing for this game, there just isn't enough content.
take a 0 off of the end of those numbers and it will be more realistic.

I really think that was a marketing stunt on Blizzards part. I think they may have purposefully not distributed enough boxes and played this through to keep post-launch hype very high, and it worked, as you can see.

Is AoC "undrinkable" similar to that beer....or "undrinkable" because there was no glass and your mouth was sewed up? Heh, maybe it doesn't taste like horse urine...but then, maybe it really goes above the call of duty in its efforts to keep people from enjoying it. Like not having the enjoyable stuff it should have, or crashing out on people who have super rigs.
Also, in response to the OP. It has a 10 million player climb to be king of anything but the second tier. Basically...you just called AoC "King of 4th place!" Why 4th? Because I can name at least 3 other games with more players. Can't be the "King" when you have the least customers. Whats embarrassing here, really, is that free to play junk it out performing it.
But, then, free to play junk has been outperforming most of the market for years now. Raking in more cash too....since it costs so much less to upkeep em. 4.) buggy as hell! If you play the game, you know this, I am not going to elaborate.
Don't give me that OOOOO it's still early! UO had a terrible release and it turned out to be a good game. Well this is 10 years after UO. MMOs are not in their infancy anymore and they should have problems like server crashes every 5 minutes. These 10 years are ones where MMOs have developed, where we have come to expect more.
P.S. I am not a WoW fanboi, I promise. (Haven't played the game in over a year.)

80%? whered you hear that stat?
Im guessing AoC will continue getting subs until around late August or early September, then slowly go on a decline.

Oh good god, anyone that thinks the OP is remotely serious(if he/she is , they re on crack) should give their head a shake. This game was pushed out too soon, and to many is not even fun, even if there weren t any bugs, missing content etc. It will have it s following but i will say what i said probably 6 months ago. It will be a niche game when all is said and done and have maybe 150k-200k subs tops. Thats good still but the king my god no way.
WoW had 1.5 millions 4 months after relase. AoC already has 700k after 1 month. Impressive! I did not expect to see a WoW killer that soon!
Great work FC!
Sadly thats just activated accounts, not active subs. Wait and see what the real subs are before jumping to praise.
And please, dont PM me again to ask me to stop not liking the game.
"But why so much hate? And don't tell me it is because you payed 50$ and you saw all those broken promises. Cause if you are a veteran gamer (which I suspect you are) you should have bought a million crappy games by now, like all of us. "
To answer that part of your PM: The point is we shouldnt have to be accepting of crappy games.

WoW is by far still "the king" as far as mmo's go.
Its sad to admit, but true. AoC is not even close to a "WoW killer"

Don't put any faith at all in Bruces imaginary numbers.
meh, although I enjoy AoC, I wouldn't call it the "king" of mmos. in fact, I don't think we've seen that game YET.
I think most of the people on this site are waiting for that game, and hope that every new release will be it.
I would quote what a few head developpers at Blizzard said a couple of weeks ago.
"Sure there will be a game one time that will be as succesful as Wow or even more... but that game will have to be better - much better - than Wow.
More polishhed, better game play, more choices of play, more fun and even ... more time to play it.
I guess Conan is about as far from being the King of MMO's as Queen Elisabeth II is a footbal star.
She could throw a mean Rugby ball back in the day though

wow.. You can't really be serious... This game has lost over 80% of it's initial players already, anyone with half a brain is not gonna continue subbing for this game, there just isn't enough content.
take a 0 off of the end of those numbers and it will be more realistic.
80%? whered you hear that stat?
Im guessing AoC will continue getting subs until around late August or early September, then slowly go on a decline.

Aoc rocks
Oh good god, anyone that thinks the OP is remotely serious(if he/she is , they re on crack) should give their head a shake. This game was pushed out too soon, and to many is not even fun, even if there weren t any bugs, missing content etc. It will have it s following but i will say what i said probably 6 months ago. It will be a niche game when all is said and done and have maybe 150k-200k subs tops. Thats good still but the king my god no way.
