They sell it in stores and they say like a month of free play and stuff but when I went on the Lineage II website they let you download the game client so does that mean I need to pay or does after the download you need to enter a key or something like that. This is confusing. Help?

Effectively the the client software for MMORPGs is free what you actually pay for is the CD-KEY that allows you yo register an account on their database and login to their servers.
That being said, the CD you can buy at the shop is in the end a CD-KEY and the game client is only really there to make things easy for you, if you download the client of the website, you will still have to buy the physical copy from the shop to get a CD-KEY or just buy it directly online both will give you a free month of play and after that you have to pay a monthly fee to continue.
