You (in this case, Blizzard) simply cannot please everyone and WoW is the perfect example of this. Had they done nothing but concentrate on BG's over the last year I can almost Guarantee everyone here that you'd be here bitching and complaining that Blizzard sucks because they haven't come out with any new Mechanics. Had they done nothing but concentrate on on PvE you'd be here bitching and complaining that the game catered to carebears and PvE wanna-be EQ gamers. Had they done nothing but concentrate on PvP you'd be here bitching that they lost site of their end game and PvP was all the game is about now. Had they not come out with any gear or made the gear to funky or different, again, you'd be right here bitching and complaining about this and that. Does Blizzard wish they could provide every single fan, every single ounce of perfection they so direly want and deserve, I can promise you they do, as does every other single developer in the known world. Unfortunately it just not doable. Blizzard, even with it's nearly bottomless war chest of funds, still has to make priorities on gameplay features and design. They still have to make sure what goes in the game works and that everyone is being as catered to as possible. No you may not like it and god knows no one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to play but in my opinion Blizzard does a pretty damn fine job of at least attempting to find a decent medium for every fan to get little somethin somethin. Does the pendulum swing a little heavy to one side on occasion? i think it does, so do you apparently, and that's fair but I give credit where credit is due. Blizzard is dealing and producing for a client base never before seen by any MMO in History, the simple fact that the game continues to run well on a daily basis is a miracle in its own right. So perhaps, if I may be so bold, it should be you who takes a leap off the proverbial high horse, try to look at a slightly larger picture and put yourself in their shoes.
Yeah they took priority of PvE over PvP. I don't think the PvErs are complaining that much. You can't please everyone but lets face it, wow in current form is a PvE centric game. All people are saying is that there hopefully wil come a good PvP centric game in the future for them to play. Unfortunately, there are not really any really good ones out atm to satiate PvPers.
WoW is a PvE success no doubt about it. But a PvP failure in many respects at the same time. But like you said you can't balance PvP around a PvE game. It's really hard.
WoW is a PvE game with PvP as a remote afterthought.
Success breeds apathy. I've seen it in UO and Everquest. I also see it in Blizzard, as Starcraft II looks very dated when we see games on the bleeding edge of RTS.
Now hold on one second... I assume you're talking about bleeding edge GRAPHICS, not the incredible design that Blizzard puts into its RTS and that most others lack. Blizzard has never gone for graphics alone, because it has been shown again and again to not have staying power. You want a ledgendary game like Starcraft? Design it well, and it won't matter what it looks like.
Blizzard doesn't even have to try. Why try if the entire MMO market isn't even close? If the industry is evolving at a glacier pace, afraid to try the slightest new idea, then why should Blizzard push the envelope when it's already on top?
WoW will not change until it feels threatened. It absorbed WAR's Tome of Knowledge, and that's a good sign that someone made WoW feel threatened. But if there IS a threat, WoW just absorbs it into itself.
You all talk about how WoW isn't bringing any groundbreaking ideas into the mmo market...Maybe this is because they don't want to risk having a game that actually does poorly, so my conspiracy theory is that they are secretly funding Dark Fall to try out a ton of new ideas in a mmo that they can absorb into a good triple A title.

It wasn't doing any worse pre-TBC. Only reason TBC was so successful is because classic WoW set it up for success. TBC totally destroy classic WoW's greatness.
I may or may not play WAR, but I hope it annihilates WoW.
No one forces you to play WoW, no one forces your friends to play WoW. They play it because it has a lot of content and a good gameplay engine. Welcome to a free market economy, if you're looking for a dictatorship where you are the dictator then you may wish to access your dreams.....

I also have an opinion on the game durr. I already said I quit. I''m free to rant about the cons of a MMORPG on a MMORPG forum... So quit being smug and go have a coke with a smile.
Hey there, been playing WOW since it was in beta. Gotta say lotta shit changed and happened over the years. At this point you either like the game, or you don't. I find it interesting that a few buddies of mine complain about the game, say they gonna go try something else, and guess what happened. They came back to WoW. Same thing happened to me. U gotta hand it to Bliz though, whatever games the make always seem to drive millions of ppl crazy. I actually feels like an addiction, and a part time jon if you are into raiding. All in All, WoW is one of the best MMO's i have played, and i've been in beta testing stages on many MMO's since EQ.

Not just graphics, but design as well.
Starcraft II essentially is a '90s RTS, when everyone else like Relic and Creative Assembly are taking the genre forward, and taking chances with new design elements.
By contrast, Blizzard is of the "don't mess with a good thing" mindset: sort of like the mindset of Ensemble Studios when designing Age of Empires III. While the formula may have worked in the '90s, the genre has moved forward considerably since then.
...In fact, in terms of Starcraft II, about the only thing Blizzard is changing from StarCraft is that thing that "has been shown again and again to not have staying power," or graphics.

I'll start by saying, i'm drunk! So... whatever i type might not be understandable.
I LOVED Age of Empires 2, i HATED AoE 3. So, the thing you are saying, cant be right on that aspect.
AoE 2 was strategic building, AoE3 was... i dont know... resembled politics, with social, ... something like maybe settelers, or civilazation. That is quite diferent from Aoe !!!
I've never played a MMO that gives away so much free content, especially fresh content.
Blizzard doesn't get knocked off their high horse because nobody else can do better. Competitors can talk a good game but so only Blizzard's delivered.
nobody has an abnormally high horse as blizzard has
I think their next mmorpg will be diablo 3 by the looks of things. Theyre trying to shift wow players to diable (obviously it aint mmo) but you get the point
WoW had the addiction factor down better than any other game I have played recently. I bet if a lot of WoW subscribers just cancelled their subscription for say 2 months and gave it a shot again the subscription numbers would go way down. I don't think its the best game out there, but it is the most addictive and a lot of new people who have never played an MMO before get hooked easily. Another thing it has going for it is that many people tell their friends and they try it. If people looked around on this site and looked for the best game for them before going to the register with a WoW box in hand WoWs numbers would be a lot smaller.
Seems like every year they're getting sloppier and lazier. One thing that's annoying is how they haven't added new BG maps since release. AreNAH is obviously the main focus cause it requires very little developing... All they're doing is adding repainted pve gear every few months, so the fanbois and exploiters will be happy. All they added for pve since TBC was the sunwell (not including BT, cause everyone knows it was suppose to be the main focus of TBC). All of this seems to be happening since they made a certain dev from UO lead designer. I may or may not play WAR, but I hope it annihilates WoW.
Blizzard shall remain the kings until the choose to step down
New MMO sounds good, who here would subscripe to a Diablo mmo (sorry if spelling is bad). I believe its set up as an rpg (never played 1 or 2, plan on getting 3 though), with online multi play with other ppl. So i guess in a sense its kinda like an MMO, but without the subscription.
OK, back to main question. Would anyone here subscripe and play a Diablo MMO? Sounds pretty cool and could have the same fan hook factor WoW had (one of the reasons i played WoW was just b/c i love the warcraft franchise)

Also, I've just gotta say:

You know, resistance is futile and all that.

I agree.
They've gotten lazy.
They dont care a shit about the balance in pvp nor pve.
Lets take shamans or paladins e.g.
I have a lvl 70 ret paladin and a lvl 70 warlock, so I know what I'm talking about.
