Earthrise questions...

PhosPhos Member Posts: 455

I've read a few posts and the Earthrise info page and am left with some questions:

I realize Earthrise looks like it's designed to be strictly a PvP world. But I really liked the old housing system in UO.

1) Will I be able to own my own house or vessel to live in?
2) Will there be FFA PvP, or will it be team-on-team?
3) I saw there will be importance placed on Engineering, Trade, and Politics... so I'm assuming there will be 100% corpse looting? Otherwise, Engineers will be worthless once everyone's all geared up.
4) Can engineers craft the best gear, or is the best gear going to be in the form of loot drops?

Other questions:
5) Is this game heavily instanced? Can anyone provide information about how instances are used in this game (this is the silent killer in AOC, POTBS, and I believe lots of future games to come. Instances are a lazy way to program games that makes them feel disconnected.)
6) Are there classes? Or can a soldier decide to start studying Engineering if he wants to, and change the course of his destiny?
7) I know there's some mandatory PvE. Will I be forced to join a guild to raid for gear, or quests?
8) Do I HAVE TO do quests?
9) Are there levels? Or is this game skill-based?

Other mechanics I'm curious about:
10) Travel: Do players travel fron Point-A to Point-B? Or is there an "insta-travel" option to avoid chance-encounters?
11) AI: Do NPCs have the ability to roam the planet? Or do they remain in their spawn areas forever until someone kills them and then just re-spawn all over again?
12) This game looks kinda like an improved version of Planetside. Will there be vehicles and mountable weapons and ships like PS?

Thanks,
- Phos

    1) I do believe you are able to own your own house/vessel.  But it does look like it will be guild specific.  I might be wrong and please some one do correct me.

    2) it is sandbox.  Anything goes.

3 )yes and no.  You will be able to insure gear so if you die you get that gear back. But some gear will be costly and make huge dents in your money.  So to an extent yes.  forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php

    4) Yes the best gear will come from engineers/crafters from what i am understand.

    5) I would not know the answer to this.  I have not read anything about this.

    6) You can call yourself whatever you want to.  You make the skill build you want to make.

    7) No you will not be forced to join guilds for gear or quests.  But it does look like you will be forced into joining a guild for rare resources as only guilds can mine rare resources.

    8) NO! I love this fact also!  You can just do PvP all you want or PvE without doing any quest.  The only reason why you would do the quest is to learn the storyline of Earthrise.  forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php

    9) Skill based!

    10) There will be three different types of vehicles.

    1. hoverbikes (im guessing 1 person vehicle)

    2. hover cars (maybe with more then 1 seat)

    3. mechs/exoskeletons (will require fuel to operate, so that its only used in situation of war)

Quoted from commi3 from the Earthrise board. forums.play-earthrise.com/index.php

There is also warp gates.   I donno where the link to that is tho.  So I can't really explain it.

    11) I do not know that either so I can't answer that.

    12) Go to question 10

Just so you know, Joker, commi3 is not part of the dev team or affiliated with the game in any capacity besides being a fan.

Yes of course I knew that he is in the same guild as I am.   But he knows pretty much everything that has been talked about the game.  After all he has been there almost since the forums first started.  He knows more than most people there.  I trust his words beyond anyone else.  (except of course the dev team and moll.  I trust there words the most.)

so the training is kinda like EVE where its time based? or is it based on how often you do a certain thing in game, like pratice based?

From what I heard you can learn every skill in the game but you'll need to have the corresponding equipment  to be able to use the skill.

This is a SciFi game and what's SciFi without gadgetery?

It's all about builds and gear.  You'll need to switch up to fill in for anything that you feel is lacking.

To put it in old MMO terms - you might find yourself being the main healer, not because you picked a "healing class" but because you're the best at it.  You'll be the groups tank because you are the best at holding aggro.  Everyone can do it but you are great at it and so you are special and valuable to the group.  I don't know if they have tanks or healers this is just how it was explained to me.

All content opens up to all players because there is no class limitations.  No more standing around LF Tank because anyone with the gear and training can do it.

ER will not be using EVE's totally crap time based skill earning.  This has been confirmed by the dev team.

Finally! a skill based character development.

But then why are there still quests? what's the use of 'em?

It's been stated that at no point will any player ever be obliged to do any of the quests.

So if you don't like them don't do them.  I'm not a quest guy either but the canon fluff you get from them is important to me as I like building a nice back history about both my character and, since I'm a player organization leader, my player organization.

This game sounds a lot like early SWG in many ways, am I right or totally off base?

More off base.  Earthrise and SWG aren't very similar beyond a few minor aesthetics.

I have to disagree with ya here Kavadas. The game is skill based, it is also a player run economy, all the best gear will be player made, there will be player housing and guild housing, and there will also be vehicles.

To me those similarities don't seem to be minor aestetic similarities. It is my opinion though.
