Blizzard's next big project

abollardiereabollardiere Member UncommonPosts: 121

Well I don't know about you guys ... but despite the raving/bashing which has been going on between the blizzard fans and the EQ fans and others as well, it's plainly obvious WoW is going to be a great financial success.

how great remains to be seen but I've got a feeling Blizzard is going to be quite happy with this one.

this brings attention to the future.

Will Blizzard rest on its laurels, content with their pie of the MMORPG market  and move on to a new project? Will they try to expand their MMMORPG market, perhaps tickling the sci fi world by making a star craft MMORPG like SOE has? Revive Diablo? (although it is still quite alive)

Anyone's guess is as good as any but the question I have for you blizzard fans is:

Despite how interesting they sound (WoSC/WoD) One would think they share the same fan base as Warcraft and thus WoW, I'd be shocked if I saw them push another MMO sequel as they'd be taking as much from themselves as they would from other games.

I'm with you on that. I need some more sci fi.

    SWG couldn't cut it.

I liked Neocron but I burned out on it when all my buddies from Beta 2 were gone.

Liked Eve but like Neocron, all my buddies disappeared.

AO was good and I played it for awhile. Might go back again for a short bit but I think its played out for me. Also, all my buddies left again. I need to find people who gonna stick around with the games for a bit longer.

ya wosc and wod would not work all that well. they needa make a new star craft and a diablo both would make a lot of money and both would be very fun. they could also make some thing completly new. plus if they made an mmo on daiblo and called it WoD or star craft and called it WoSC i would stay away from it just cause they cant even make up a new name but instead take the starting words from there first mmo

if you can see the future then you can change your path, but if you can change your path then how can you see the definate future

always my opion when i talk as this is me and my ideas if you disagree with something i dont want flaming plz. thank you. and Dont question a forum posters spelling you think we got spell check on this thing.

I pretty much believe Starcraft 2 is gonna be the "next blizzard godly game" after WoW. After all... it has the best storyline of any computer game AND was the greatest RTS ever made. And after 7 long years, starcraft is the only game that hasn't had a sequal yet it is the most popular game worldwide.

I've been waiting for a new Starcraft game for a while, I thought Starcraft ghost might calm part of this urge, but dosen't look like it will live completely up to the Starcraft name. So until then I faithfully wait for the next in the Starcraft series, be it MMO or RTS.

Blizzard would be nuts to roll out another MMORPG before WoW is several years old or more.  If they're smart, they'll put out a sequel to StarCraft.

I really hope they make Starcraft 2. The original was such a groundbreaking achievement in the RTS genre, I'm surprised they haven't already tried to milk the cash cow with a sequel.

I've noticed Blizzard never really tries to milk a game for cash with a sequel right away. They will usually release one expansion pack for that game and then thats it. Then they switch modes and go work on a new game idea / sequel. World of Warcraft has been the only time I've seen them put out Warcraft games right after each other. Although they don't pump out as many games as other companies. Its always been near to impossible to have an idea what Blizzard will come up with next.

I know how you feel about the whole not having friends stick around in games...that'd be why i'm getting a bunch of my friends together for when WoW comes out. Were all going to play together and stuff so hopefully it'll work out.

I voted for starcraft II. It will be a gold mine, and they'll develop something different (not a mmorpg nor a warcraft)

First of all they will take care of SC:Ghost, as no1 believe on it.

Second they will either develop a D3 with innovative game play and another deep stroy (can u imagine all D1 and 2 players buying a 50$ game just in the launch? image).

Or they will develop a half rts/half rpg SC2. That would rock image

The EQ and EQ2 fans are not concerned with WoW. Out of the 400k to 800k (counting players who like EQ, but cannot play it because they have a life) there are roughly 1k to 5k trollers, immature acting people who enjoy starting fires and flames. For any game.

Next, in reality, according to Mr. Hardcore Reality, it was blatantly obvious WoW or any first time MMORPG project by Blizzard would automatically be a success - no matter what. WoW is being made first for Blizzard fans. The majority of Blizzard fans, who number between 4 million to 8 million, have never played a MMORPG, or do not regularly play a MMORPG. All Blizzard has to do is convince a tiny fraction of their own fanbase to go for paying a monthly fee to play. Blizzard does not have to concern itself about the EQ/EQ2 fans, GW fans, or fans of any other MMORPG already out, or about to be out.

how great remains to be seen but I've got a feeling Blizzard is going to be quite happy with this one.

If WoW can get a measly 50,000 players it WILL have a chance in heaven or hell of re-couping all investment money. If WoW can get 100,000 players it will be a bona fid success. Considering Blizzard has 3 mega-hit MOGs (Multiplayer Online Games), and their fanbase numbers between 4 million to 8 million....... you know the rest. imageimage

this brings attention to the future.

Will Blizzard rest on its laurels, content with their pie of the MMORPG market  and move on to a new project?

A MMORPG is not like a RPG, or the RTS games like Starcraft..... in which after it is made, the company can move on to the next project. WoW will need Blizzards direct attention for 2 straight years minimum. There will be no chance for Blizzard to even think about resting on its laurels. IMHO Blizzard should not even do a new project for at least 2 years after WoW is released. Focus all resources on making absolutly sure WoW is a hit, and is done right, and gets updated with content, patches, expansions, etc... right - aka with the highest quality job aka focus all resources.

Will they try to expand their MMMORPG market, perhaps tickling the sci fi world by making a star craft MMORPG like SOE has? Revive Diablo? (although it is still quite alive)

A Star Craft MMORPG is possible. And again, all Blizzard would have to do is target its own fanbase, and not worry about going after the fanbase for other Sci-Fi MMORPGs. IMHO SCO (Star Craft Online) would be a success, but not as much as WoW. It would easily make 50k subscribers. Even 75k guaranteed. Not a runaway success, but pretty much successful.

WoW is going after 2 of Blizzard's fanbase - The Diablo fans and Warcraft fans. (Blizzards 2 mega hit Fantasy-themed games). SCO would be going after 1 of Blizzard's fanbase - The Star Craft fans (SC is just 1 Sci-Fi themed mega hit.) So WoW has a better chance of uber success than SCO.

Anyone's guess is as good as any but the question I have for you blizzard fans is:

No guesses are needed. The writting is blatantly on the wall in the case of WoW being a guaranteed success. And in the case of SCO being a potiential success.

Ive gota say something bout SCO like u call it.

Dont forget that the majority of MMOs out there is Fantasy like. Many ppl dont like sci-fi mmos. That would be a downpart. But then, every player who likes EVE, UO and others alike would SURELY play a SC MMORPG. And then there would be the starcraft and blizz fanboys. IMO SCO would has everything it need to be a huge success in like 2012 or later(as some1 said, it would be suicide to start doing another game asap)

WoSC would definitely be an interesting game. I would wait a pretty long time before releasing it, but I would definitely give it a shot. Has potential..and it would have a nice feeling to it.

  • Regal_TRRegal_TR Member Posts: 249
the way you would imagine a starcraft mmorpg is much better than the how it could be made.. Imo. Diablo 3 PLS!

We demand starcraft 2, the first one was a good game, and stll is. We usually gathered together with our friends and played in LAN. Starcraft 2 would bring back those times image
