Pirates of the Carribean? Huh?

Ok, lets just set things straight. I have been away from computers in General for about the last.... holy crap almost the last YEAR! (*gasp* I just realized that) Also, I never really followed this game because it didn't really interest me. I was following PoTBS and was hoping for the best.

But, when I started the PoTBS Beta. Pirates of the Carribean was just starting out and just hitting beta phase, I think. Here just a few minutes ago I was reading some posts here and saw the Pirates of the Carribean Ad. Naturally, whenever there is a game I don't know a whole lot about that's released I look over to the forums and check out what people have said about it. But, it wasn't there! I look down to the In Dev forums and it wasn't there!

So, I clicked the ad and scrolled through the site very briefly and I still can't figure out what this is. "Free to Download - Free to Play"

I'm kinda just wondering what the hell happened to this game and wasn't it supposed to be a real MMO, not something that was created and released in less than a year? Even with rumors is competing head to head with PoTBS.

I enjoyed the game. I played the beta, however the games quests didn't really hold much interest.  Combat system is like every other MMO, still was buggy after release I heard.  Also heard they shutdown a couple servers just recently.  People prefered other MMOs. It has cool features like constant ship design contests.  They are very fan based company also.  Music was cool and such, but with the new Pirates of the carribean MMO coming out, this game might see its end.

all in all, just not enough fans as they expected, but i thought the game was good.

No, pirates of the carribean was always meant to be free with advertising or pay with no advertising. It was to be an alternative to their Toon town online for children/preteens. It was like this all the way through beta, and even stated prior to beta starting. This game was never intended to compete with general MMO market, only to garner more youngin's for disney online.

Its really not a bad game either. It is really simple so easy to play and learn, and you can't beat the fact that it is free for the most part (some content requires you to pay).

MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S

just because Pirates of the Carribean is F2P deosnt make it any less of a MMO and doesnt mean it wont generate significant revenue.

I wrote an article on how F2P Games make money and are not so "Free" sometimes. Read it HERE

I am pretty sure the game wasn't always free to play. I remember seeing a monthly fee like $7 or something. I even thought - wtf, who pays to play this game??!

I checked the site a month ago and saw that it was already to play for free.

I loved the movies but the game is... hm

theres a new potc game coming out? o.o

AOC where are you ? D:

this game, PotC, has always been free to play or pay for additional content.  there was never a 7 dollar fee.  I've been in the game since early beta. I have had several of my friends come to join me and all of them either found it not to their liking right away and quit - about a third of them - started in the beta and chose to pay to play, or played free content until they ran out and then chose to pay to play.

actually, there was a monthly subscription.

If you didnt pay, not only were there ads, but you were limited to the first starter ship and your max level was lvl 15 or something...

I know cause I tried it a bit, but quit very soon.

yes, there was a monthly subscription if you didn't want to see the ads and wanted all content unlocked.

nevertheless, there WAS and still IS  a free to play version.  And there is nothing to buy unless you want the unlocked content - bigger ships, bigger badder weapons.  We are all on the same servers and can play together.

I know this as several of my freinds played for free for months. Some dropped out long before reaching cap - it wasn't their thing enough to pay to play, or they lost interest.  Some chose to pay to play.  Some just play now and then and there is no reason for them to pay for a game they only play for 5 hours a month.

If you think that because you can't get the same thing they paying members get that it isn't fair, then all I can do is giggle at you and move on - there will always be people who think they should be handed things for which other people pay.

i didnt like it very much ppl keep running around screaming this is the best game ever.no

    I dislike grinding games alot....

  • MegeraMegera Member UncommonPosts: 45

I havent' really found it to be a 'grinding' game.  I play everquest, everquest2 and city of heros.  you want to talk grinding games?  I quit EQ because of the monotonous grinding required to level.  City of heros can also get firmly into the grinding rut.

It's not the 'best game ever'.  Its a good game.  Like it or don't, i couldn't care less.  But  other people liking it or not liking it will not stop me from enjoying it.  There are some very popular games out there that i think are piles of whale drek - enjoy em all you want.  I won't.  No one requires you to like games i like and vice versa.

get off the negativity bandwagon.  Its a nice little game.  its not for everyone.  thats all.
