This makes things sound incrediblty bad for flagship :(

San Francisco, CA (July 14, 2008) -- Flagship Studios has announced today that despite rumors to the contrary, the company is still operating.

“It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship.” said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. “The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain the size of the company any longer.”

Flagship Studios owns the rights to all its technology and IP, including Hellgate: London and Mythos. Due to the current situation, Flagship will not be taking any new subscribers for Hellgate: London, and all current subscriptions will not be billed.

Flagship wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to those that have supported the company and games over the past five years.

should have developed Hellgate a little better. They gambled on that financially for feeding them while they developed other games. Hellgate was deplorable at best.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Considering that Diablo three is being made it's very possible that these guys are indeed going back to Blizzard for that project.

Why on earth would Blizzard want to hire back any of these guys?  They left because they didn't want to develop WoW (IIRC), and went on to produce a horrible game with a horrible subscription system.  Blizzard is well into development of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, and both of those games seem pretty darn good thus far.

It makes no sense why Blizzard would want to hire back any of the people that snubbed their noses at them as they left.  No, no need to for any charity.  It is poetic justice in the most sublime manner, that WoW is making $1+billion a year, and FSS is closing up shop.

really old news..should have seen the FSS forums going up in flames as this actually happened..it was quite the sight to behold.

and ultimately YES! they did indeed do this to themselves in so many ways. not only were they on crack to think developing another game when they had a turd in the oven was a good plan. but they released the turd with REALLY severe and annoying bugs (cant even count how many times i got stuck to the landscape for simply jumping). im betting AoC will go the same road honestly.

maybe it will open some eyes on the part of developers, who at this point may be realising we will not play any piece of trash game that comes out simply because it is there. moreso, dont try launching un-finished games! while yes hellgate did infact get MUCH better than it was at launch, by then most of us had already said "screw this piece of crap" and looked for greener pastures.

the game servers are still up afaik, though it is a very somber place.....course that doesnt stop the fkn gold spammers (and they aint even running @ reduced price) which it would seem so easy to ban if only they had chose to.

D3 has already been well into production for some time now. Just look at the videos. Blizz got rid of the ones supposedly responsible for Diablo and Diablo 2, and these guys then made crappy games while Blizzard miraculously makes Diablo 3 which surprisingly enough LOOKS and PLAYS like Diablo from what they've shown so far.

Don't care what anyone else thinks or supposedly knows, Ropers' team was NOT responsible for Diablo or they would have shown the same quality in their new works. There were others working who did not leave Blizzard when North shut down, and they are the ones who made the Diablo series what it is. It's only my speculation, but I still think the reason Roper and his team didn't merge into Blizzard from North was not because they didn't want to work on WoW, but because Blizz didn't want them.

i agree, they just used the fact that SOME people did work on diablo to sell the game, and thats a really stupid reason to buy a game. alot of movies do that also, "from the producer of......and the director of..." does not = gold.

i think the game itself could have stood alone, just not managed the way it was and definately not launched the way it was.

love the way EA just leaves companies to hang too (but that is a different rant entirely).

If you look closely at the new graphics for D3, it has been tainted by Warcraft....
