Tell us what kinds of gameplay you like. WoW is the most famous, most played, and most known MMO out there. No one can deny that. It lasted me 3 years, and now im sick and tired of it.
AoC was a disappointment, dunno how many feel the same way... but you just dont get a whole lot of freedom to roam around etc.
As for LOTRO, well, its lacking in PvP but otherwise its overall a great game to start. Im currently playing LOTRO casually and having a blast, its a really polished game.
I'd say World of Warcraft. It has the best of both PvE and PvP compared to the other two games (yes I consider WoW's pvp better than aoc). Despite what a lot of people will say WoW is the better mmo out of the 3 and I have no doubt in my mind you will enjoy playing it. Especially since their next expansion is coming out very soon. Granted my opinion might be a bit skewed since I haven't actually played wow in almost a year and half. But I doubt much has changed.
I will however say a little about the other two. Lord of the Rings Online was a blast for me. Being a LotR fan I fell in love with the game. It gave me the chance to play out some of the more unknown aspects of Middle Earth and still have the Lord of the Rings feel. With that said, the PvE is great, the PvP is not. I could never get into their PvP system (which is actually entitled Monster Play) just didn't cut it for me. And I found that I eventually got burnt out with the whole game. I got tired of playing and evetually cancelled my account out of boredom (played for about 5 months total). It took me 2 years to get tired of WoW.
AoC was by far the biggest let down since Vanguard. People might fight me over this but I have played a number of mmos in my lifetime and none of them have made me lose interest in less than two weeks. The game has tremendous graphics and promises to be a more PvP centric game with battle keeps. However, thanks to many many game bugs the game (even currently) is completely broken. Each patch has brought with it more and more bugs, customer service is one of the worst I have ever seen in a game, class nerfs to outrageous levels and probably my biggest beef of them all: not having content that was promised or is implented in a terrible way. Stay well away from AoC, and don't buy into Funcom's hype.
If I were you though, I would wait for what I consider the best mmo since World of Warcraft. Warhammer Online will deliver on both aspects you are looking for. It's Public Quest system and other world events will keep the PvE side of you interested. While it's keep battles and RvR missions (RvR stands for Realm vs Realm aka PvP :P ) will keep your PvP side interested. Warhammer seems to be promising just what you are looking for. I have high hopes for the game and it is rumored to be released within the next few months.

yea..lotro is actually the best IF YOUR SYS CAN RUN DX10 AND YOU CAN APPRECIATE THE SCENERY. playing it on low settings is most likely total garbage. conan-go wash your mouth out...that game is synonymous with shit. calling it a disaster is being far too kind. wow-are ya 12?
Dx 10 is a resource sucker, I can easily run it on Ultra high settings with Dx 10 disabled and it looks amazing... with Dx 10 enabled it just gets choppy at times... especially in Bree (Duh)
well, most of us using dx10 are smart enough to use vista 64 and dont skimp on the ram. if you are rocking a dell with 512 megs from 3 years ago i think wow is pretty much the only choice . im not saying dx9 and the high rez packs are trash, im saying if you totally have to dumb the game down it most likely aint too impressive.
wookie: if you want a buddy invite pm me your email addy and ill have 1 sent to ya.
Vanguard FTW!!!!!! I have played all 3 of those games and the only one that wil give you long lasting play enjoyment is WoW ... I just played it too long since beginning... Vanguard is wide open skys the limit IMO
Try WoW, then come back and tell us what you liked and didn't like, and we'll point you in the right direction. Pretty much everyone has tried WoW and thus we would all have a common basis for giving you new suggestions based on your preferences instead of our own. :-)

All depends on what you like etc...

i like pve and some pvp
but most of all pve so i can explorer and raid
plz vote
Well, LOTRO has really enjoyable PvE... and it has little PvP, and its REALLY fun... but it wont satisfy hardcore PvPers.
Heres a small video showing the PvP in LOTRO:
And heres one showing the PvE:
Also, there is an epic story line and they show you cutscenes etc...
Hope this helps.
Also, there is a 14-day free trial you can check out before buying the game. You can find the trial HERE
i hate these posts.
if youre gonna do one, at least say what type of MMOs you like
what features are you looking for?
what are some things that you liked about other titles?
are you into PvE, PvP, or both
more info before we can suggest a good game for you
WoW, while fun at times, eventually becomes World of Gearcraft. Worst community ever. /yawn
LotRO is one of the best pve/story driven mmos out there right now. <---- my vote
AoC is a disaster...okay, maybe that's exaggerating, but it should never have hit retail shelves in its current state (yes, I played it).
thank for the help im going to gave it a tri

Has LotRO improved massively in the last year or did you all think it was good back then? I thought it was pretty drab gameplay.
Try WoW, then come back and tell us what you liked and didn't like, and we'll point you in the right direction. Pretty much everyone has tried WoW and thus we would all have a common basis for giving you new suggestions based on your preferences instead of our own. :-)
i think im going to play wow lotro is boring
