This game (or hoax) is hurting the mmo genre and this website as a whole in my opinion. Year after year, they spout off very general and vague statements either about a release date, an upcoming beta (like last year), or a fresh new hot video which turns out to be only a bunch of old stuff spliced together or something.

I myself heard of this game way back in 2001 when the release date was supposed to be in either the spring or fall of 2003. I was a little excited to see it way back then, but sheesh.. that was SEVEN years ago!

And we STILL don't have any real beta (supposedly they are using computers or NPCS to test their game... WTF!!??) Uhhh, okay.

We don't have any specific release date yet.

We don't even have any actual gameplay videos! (Is it really that hard to show some footage using a program like Fraps?)... Come on now.

They are "supposedly" releasing this game by the end of 2008. And they don't even have a publisher yet? Riiiight.

My concern is not only for all the fans of this game watching the forums on this website for YEARS basically only to feel like utter fools in the end... but I also foresee Adventurine finding some slick way of convincing the fans to put up the credit cards for some kind of a "down payment" or "mailing fee" to get the fans their game.. or maybe to let them play their "demo" or even enter a live "beta" of this game. I'm sure many of these fans would throw up their credit cards to give Adventurine a $5.00 fee to test this game out after watching it for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS. Then we all remember well (or atleast I do) all the forums and "Mourning" forums lit up with customers who were charged MUCH more then was promised and the Mourning devs blaming it on the credit card processing company and all that BS.

Look, I'm really not trying to troll here. I honestly don't believe that this game is actually real in any way, shape, or form. If it was, I think they would have given us atleast a fraps in-game video in seven freakin' years. I'm not sure that this company will try to rob fans of their money either, but whatever is going on with "Darkfall", it certainly smells foul from my angle.

I guess what I'm saying is couldn't this website atleast CONSIDER having small requirements before letting some new game have a forum board on this highly reputable website? Like either a record of releasing mmo games (like Turbine and Blizzard and EA games).. or if its some small new company requiring the game to have atleast announced a public beta or videos (like in-game footage) that leave pretty much no doubt about the state of the game. Yes, I think the newer companies should have to prove more to get their own forum boards here then proven and established game companies.

I have been an mmorpg.com member for almost 5 years now. I really like and appreciate this website, but I honestly think even hosting and giving games like this now only HURTS and de-values this websites reputation. I know it has no relations to Adventurine or Darkfall, but at worst I think Darkfall is a huge hoax, and at best it will be another "Dark and Light" and a broken game that will deliver many broken promises to its fans. Just as a retail stores reputation might be lowered if it sells JUNK (even though it may have no relations to the junks manufacturer), I think this websites overall reputation could be severely hurt by offering services and forum boards for games like "Mourning", "Dark and light", and now "Darkfall". And in the end, I predict that "Darkfall" will end up even lower then "Mourning".

That's my opinion, question, and concerns. However legitimate you may or may not think they are. Atleast my concerns are in the right spot for not only this website, but for all the fans that I believe are going to be burned in the end on this particular game.

How many times do we have to say it?

    DARKFALL ... HAS ... A ... PUBLISHER

I have a feeling this thread is going to get moved or locked. If you're appealing to the mmorpg dot com staff then you're posting in the wrong place.

A game is allowed to be attacked as long as their are legitimate reasons for the attacks. I think I have shown there are many specific and legitimate questions.

Some of you fans following the game should be asking some of these same questions as well. At least I would hope you would be.

If the fans here cannot handle a post written with honest questions/concerns as to the legitimacy of this game and react with severe immaturity then maybe they should be "locked" instead of this thread.

These are honest and legitimate questions and concerns. ANY game in a similar state and situation as 'Darkfall' should be and deserves to be looked at with a doubtful eye, doesn't it?

We're not going to remove a game from our list because they might possibly at some point think about getting people's money early. That just doesn't make any sense. We're not going to punish people for what they might do.

Darkfall will remain on our list until a) they announce that they are closing their doors or b) they just dissapear.

I don't know how it is that having Darkfall on our list is hurting anyone. Anyone that shows an interest in the game can easily see what the situation is by reading even one single thread in the forums.

We don't use our Games List  as our own personal soap box. It isn't our place (in terms of the Games List) to decide which games we feel should be there or not. If they meet the criteria, they're on the lsit. Darkfall does, so it stays.

NO.....IT....DOESN'T...  unless of course you mean they are their own publishers......

AudioVisual is NOT their publisher or distributor. AudioVisual did NOT sign a contract with Aventurine. They only issued a MoU. Memorandum of Understanding.

It's NOT a contract. It only means we "might" do something for you if we feel like it in the future. If you actually prove something to us or meet our demands for x y or z.

We cling on to darkfall because its the only game in the foreseeable future that ressurects old UO style gameplay.

I dont know what the fate of darkfall is.  But i think its a little excessive to call it a hoax.  I honestly dont think someone would put in 7 years effort to come up with vaporware.  All the dev journals and people visiting the studio.

Calling it a hoax is a dumb conspiracy

You took Adellion off the games in development section on the left side of the screen because its progress has been so slow. So how is Darkfall any different?

Personally, I think they should pull half a dozen game off of the list on the left.

I didn't say they took it off the site completely. I said they took it off the games in development section on the left side of the screen, on the main forum page.

Okay.  It was taken off the list on the left because it just isn't very popular.  It generates nowhere near the traffic that Darkfall or any other game listed on the left does.

You appear to have missed the third sentence of that three sentence paragraph.  Here.  I'll copy & paste it for you:

Of course it doesn't because its not on the main page. Most people just go to the forums listed on the main page. A lot of people don't even know that their are forums for other games.

The devs have already stated that they don't want you to pay any money before playing the game. They're not out to lie and steal like Funcom was. They refuse use pre-orders to get people into beta, and firmly believe you have a right to try the game before you buy it. Therefore, leave the game be, if you don't think it exists, that's fine, you can ignore the mountain of evidence in front of you all you want until it releases. But its not hurting ANYONE. They aren't asking for money, they're not getting stocks, they're not selling pre-orders. They deserve respect for that, not people like you.

Also, incase you missed it, Darkfall has a publisher, nice try.

They say alot of things.  Stop hanging on their every word as if it's gospel.  You supporters like to mention that, you doubt we will stick around if DF releases.  Let me ask you this.  Say Aventurine does start taking Pre-Orders before letting people play it.  Will you be man enough to apologize to Zaxtor?  Or will you play the part of Tasos and try to spin it into something else?

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Thank you for making assumptions about me and my stance on games. I like the idea of Darkfall, its the last true MMO (aside from maybe Warhammer) on the horizon. I have read into it enough to know that its real, as should anyone with half a brain. No one reall knows that, what condition the game is. So obviouslly, I don't harp on every word Tasos says. I know the game industry very well, and can read through the lines most of the time. I saw straight through Age of Conan and stopped following it a few years back.

Sometimes Tasos is very blunt and honsest about cut features and the reasons why, he's told us ahead of time. Backround information on him also goes to his credit. The entire team is self funded and perfectionists. When Women's Gamer went there their impression was the game would never be released, not because it didn't exist, but because the developers would never get it into a state they wanted to release it in, because they were obsessed with making it perfect. So, my general impression is that Tasos is an honest person, to an extent, not some anonymous front to a big corporate company trying to hype his game.

That being said, I take most of what he says with a grain of salt, and try not to get excited about things until I see them.

I very much believe Tasos when he says they won't make you get pre-orders ect ect, it fits with my general impression of how the company is run. By people who actually care about the game, and less so about the money (to an extent.)

If he changes it to allow pre-orders, why wouldn't I admit I'm wrong? I'm not a blind fanboy. Learn the difference, and try doing some research yourself.

I just explained to you that most people don't even know that forum exists. Its hard to post in a forum if you don't know it exists. Do I need to cut and paste what I said?
