Beta Invites Random or Hand Picked?

I don't know if it is just me but i seem to have the worst and i mean WORST luck ever getting into any beta of any game unless they just hand out beta keys to first come first serve. (well my bad luck applies to RL too but thats a completely different topic)

So im just wondering if anyone knows if beta invites to most games are handed out by random or hand picked.

By hand picked i mean do they actually read the description of what you have told them about your previous gaming experiences and your computer specs.  Or do they just pull your beta application out a hat of how ever many have applied?

There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of getting into beta:

#1. Be Active! Register on the forums, ask question, give suggestions, be very constructive.

#2. Get active in the MMO community. There are several sites you could volunteer on ... mmorpg being one of them :). Or ...

#3. Blog baby! That's right, start a blog and write a bit about the games you're playing.

#4. Most beta applications usually give you a spot that says something like "Why would you be good for the beta test?". Tell them exactly why you would be good, have confidence and make the devs feel like they are making a huge mistake skipping over you and your keen eye :P.

I believe few are handpicked (people who stand out in the their forums, members of the press etc.) but the most part are sorted out through their DxDiag file which I believe is handled by software.

This is all just what I think though, I don't have any facts to support that.

I would have to say most dont read it, since I usually put down..

"I can write anything here because you dont read this crap, so how was your day mr game guy"

Even if they do read it, they might think its funny and let me in.

Early betas arent really all that fun, its nice to see the game first ,but its better to just go for open beta.

The best way to get in betas are websites like this and many others you can find on your own.

APPLY TO EVERYTHING EARLY.....I get invites to stuff i forgot i applied for all the time.

    Own, Mine, Defend, Attack, 24/7

Well i applied to the WAR beta about 6 months into them starting their newsletters.  I also applied to their beta the day you were able to apply to the beta.

This is just one game that comes to mind when i think about applying to a beta.  (CoH i did the same thing applied and never got in)

But yea i dont beta test just to play the game i beta test to make the game better as well.

Apply to a Closed Beta as soon as it is open to apply for. Once you get in be a good Tester. I think that will increase your chances. I was lucky enough to be and still am  in most of them.
