They are taking out the theurgists because they don't feel they have ever been able to balance them.
They are adding the Valkyrie to midgard as the 3rd healer they never had at original launch.
They are taking out the battlegrounds because they weren't there at launch, and instead want to get the 20+ crowd in the frontiers.
They are adding 20+ objectives to the frontiers, and adding mechanics so red+ cons to the lower players can't even attack them. They are also adding 20+ objectives for the 20+ crowd to fight over, and exclude it from the higher level players. So all the extra land in Old Frontiers is going to be capturable towns and outposts some of it for lower level ranges and some of it for the 50s.
If they release the server before WAR I will be on it, then the smart thing to do would be add a multi sub option like the station pass, and I'd play both DAoC Origins and WAR. (mostly WAR to be honest)
Lets bring DAOC back! Its time to revive RvR and play it the way it was meant to be played. Realm pride is coming back in style! For Albion For Midgard For Hibernia! Prepare for glory this fall!
I agree. I hve yet to find an MMORPG that gave me the feeling the EQ and DAOC did when I played them for the first time.

Hmm, interesting. Glad to see that they're trying to compensate for removing the BG's. However, I'm not sure what to think about this idea if all levels will be sharing the same frontier. Might have felt more like the Old DAOC to just have lower level BG's and speed up the xp rate so everyone can get to "big boy" RvR faster.
Still though, they have my attention. Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out...
To answer one of my previous questions: Origin server will have rest xp. Not sure about anything else, as far as the level grind goes. Hard to imagine that it would be any where near as painful as it use to be.
Anyway, I'm actually starting to get kind of hyped for this Guess I haven't learned my lesson yet
Already thinking about which Hib class I'd want to roll. Hmm...
I just registered to say one thing, and I know that a lot of people will agree with this. One of the things that I consider a mainstay of DAOC culture is the use of buffbots. It became so standard for any player that trying to copy the current "classic" servers policy of no buffs if your not grouped or in range just wont work. At its peak "fun-ness" RvR in Emain and Odins was a battle royale consisting of 8 v 8 groups and a completely separate war being waged exclusively by stealthers of all classes and races. The fun of being an assasin or archer was knowing that since you were buffed, there was a chance that you could pick someone out of a group of 4-8 and kill them and have a chance of getting away with it. Without buffbots this is not even a remote possibility because groups will always be buffed, and you will get stomped and have to run the hastener route again (assuming mythic is smart enough to re-implement hastener routes).
If your trying to re-create the best things in dark age, you'd be SOL if you left this aspect out.
Not to mention the obvious "no duh" factor of having most people paying you $15/twice a month for two accounts instead of one. So I dont see how Mythic could go wrong on this one, but im sure like in the past, this will get overlooked as a balance issue.
I can name a list of people off the top of my head who WOULD be interested as hell in re-rolling on a server of this type, but as soon as they read "no buff bots" that interest will evaporate. As would mine.
DAOC Player from the Beginning... First 50 Armsman on Galahad.
The Following Was Posted On The Dark Age Of Camelot Community Website www.camelotherald.com Just A Few Days Ago: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to take some time to answer some of the most common questions that I have spotted on the various DAoC forums, as well as to share some highlights of the Origins ruleset. But before I do so, I’d like for you all to know that I am also an avid player of Dark Age myself, having leveled many characters to 50 across multiple servers and realms. For example, I remember the old days of leveling off wolves outside of the Albion portal keep in Odin’s Gate. Over the years, I’ve maxed out all six craft skills and I’ve bought a few houses and I’ve gone on many, many keep and relic raids. Like many of you, Dark Age was my first MMO, and it’s a game that will always have a special place in my geeky heart. I’ve been with Mythic (now EA Mythic) for over seven years. For the entirety of my employment at Mythic, I have never left the DAoC project. My vision for the design of this new server is driven by my and my team’s own understanding of and experience with Dark Age, as well as yours, our Community of Team Leads, players and former players who wish to come back and experience not just the ‘nostalgia’ of this server, but a truly fun and compelling gameplay experience. The most common question continues to be, “Is this really going to happen?” Origins has been in development for a couple of months now. We have been working with our Team Leads (as part of the Team Lead program) to work through the various gameplay details, ideas, and issues, while also collecting and reading your feedback. Our schedule requires around four to five months of development. This means that since the server has been in development for two months already, we still have another two to three months before it’s ready for primetime. Right now, launch is slated for the August/September timeframe. However, this is also subject to change. Ideally, I want the server to receive at least one month of internal and external beta testing, but preferably six to eight weeks to allow us time to react to feedback and make changes or additions that will provide for the best play experience possible. This is also why your involvement as a Community is critical to us, and why we’re holding a couple of IRC chats later this week. Second on the list of most popular questions is, “What is this server all about?” This server is designed to return DAoC to the great game experience it was in 2001/2002, while also applying wisdom from the lessons we have learned since then. DAoC is still a great game, but this server has its own appeal that we ‘old school’ players really enjoyed, and our goal is to get back to that while also continuing to support the other rulesets. Origins will not exactly replicate the game as it was is 2001; we are keeping as a part of server the ‘best features’ we have put into the game since launch, such as housing, horses, the market explorer, UI changes (to name only a few) and many of the improved systems introduced over the years. However, some of these features and systems will also be tuned up. For example, the ‘portal ceremony’ found in the game at launch will not be making a comeback as it was originally implemented. Instead, there will be a short waiting period (3 – 5 minutes) before players may port together. This will encourage players to go to the Frontiers in groups as opposed to now where players often find themselves heading to the frontiers alone. We are also taking this opportunity to retune realm balance. Many intelligent and experienced minds are focused on this aspect of Origins, and the main question by which we’ve operated during its development is, If we could do this all over again, knowing what we know today, how would we do things differently? As we embark on this development project called ‘DAoC: Origins,’ we also continue to focus on our Live servers. We just recently launched a ‘Ghost Keep’ event, which was very well-received, and we thank you for your participation and feedback. We also recently re-envisioned and deployed our new Starter Area to all servers, taking advantage of the previously (and mostly) unused tutorial region; again, the feedback has been very positive. We will continue to deploy new content patches, new features, and new gameplay experiences to all of our servers, regardless of ruleset. In closing, please stay tuned as development on Origins continues. We are very excited about the possibilities and we hope you are, too. Thank you all for reading. I will keep in touch, and I look forward to our IRC chats later this week. Best regards, Christopher Rabideau Producer, Dark Age of Camelot
Electronic Arts (EA Mythic) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it looks like DAOC is poised for a comeback. I believe that the DAoC origins server will bring back life to DAoC. In fact, my prediction is that in 6 months time, there will be around 7000 players playing DAoC each day at prime time spread over three DAoC origins servers. I think that the project will be successful and effectively eliminate the old servers. Fellow players, DAoC has had its moments of glory over the past 7 years, but I believe that in 6 months all the old servers will be closed and a new era and flux of DAoC players will emerge. DAoC may never reach the population it once did, but by opening a new server type and the first new server in over 2 years, Mythic is essentially releasing DAoC 2. It is not a new game entirely, but DAoC has a new lease on life, and if Mythic markets the game effectively, success is inevitable. Warhammer claims to be the future, but it is not. I am not a game basher, but as an old vet of DAoC I can honestly say that Warhammer is a gimmick-filled game, intended to copy World of Warcraft's success. There will be no realm pride in Warhammer, only gold sellers and gold farmers. I encourage you all to begin your own guilds or join others. Let's bring back DAoC to respectable status. Albion, Midgard, and Hibernia are only months away from a rebirth that will take the game by storm.
Hello Dark Age of Camelot and fellow Players,
Many of you have already participated in the new server poll we have been conducting to gauge interest in what we are calling the ‘Origins’ server ruleset, also referred to as an ‘Old Frontiers’ server. I would like to thank everyone who has participated so far, as well as thank those who have provided the incredible amount of constructive feedback we have received through the Herald and through the various message forums relevant to DAoC. My team and I were pleasantly surprised by how much interest this poll has generated. The pollis still available to the public on the Herald, and we are still watching its results with great interest.
We have received numerous questions regarding this poll and ruleset. Our Community Team has been working on a FAQ that is now available on the Herald. Also, later this week, we will be organizing two IRC chats in which members of my team and I will be available for Q&A. The dates will be on Wednesday, June 4th and Thursday, June 5th. One will be held at 6:30 pm EDT for the benefit of our East Coast players, and the other will be held at 9:30 pm EDT for the benefit of our West Coast players. Please watch the Herald for any additional information. You should also note that beyond the IRC chats, we are very interested in your continued feedback. Please feel free to utilize the Herald Feedback Form for this purpose. I plan to dig in and read as many of your emails as I can myself, but please keep the feedback constructive.
Though a novel interest at best it will draw a few back for a short time for nostalgic reasons. This is the only game i've seen make moves backward in times from TOA to classic and now Old Frontiers. This game went from 40-60k players on in prime time over the years to 4-5k on its best days. Though i've played off and on since the game was released its not the same game like it was at release. There is no real gaming community at all and it seems it has what i call alot of wow kiddies in it vs years ago it had a very mature crowd. DAOC isn't coming back to what it was and nothing will ever be able to recreate what it one was. People are looking for new not old games now.

I dont think anyone is expecting a full-on revival from just one server. But, honestly, what else are we supposed to play right now? No one has managed to replace DAOC RvR (to this point) and I don't see anyone doing it in there near future. Origins looks like the only option right now.
DAOC has a few flaws that I doubt will be fixed by this, but anyone with any interest in PvP. I HIGHLY recommend you give DAOC a try now or when the new server rolls out. It is and remains one of the better PvP options on the market.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
if this was coming out in a couple weeks i would say heck ya. but with it being launched probably very close to when Warhammer is supposed to lauch i think im going to have to pass.
Hm it told me to login to vote; and when I logged in, it won't let me vote! It just shows me the graph.
I've never played DaOC but I will buy the game and subscribe when this server launches. No better time to try the game than when it's in its original form. I'm sure classic is more challenging than today's DaOC. Nearly all MMOs today use the wow-easy-bottlefeeding formula.
Count me in for this server! WTG Mytic!
Luckily, i don't need you to like me to enjoy video games. -nariusseldon. In F2P I think it's more a case of the game's trying to play the player's. -laserit

I agree with this statement, I noticed too that a number of the newer registered accounts have a negative opinion of the game, while the older ones do not. Wonder why :P Except for the 08 reg. Talking about buff-bots.
I agree, again. Keep buff bots in. Although I didnt have much of a problem on my hunter because of my self-buffs. I heard it was damn near impossible for a scout though.

Sorry I'm bored. Jesus Christ I can't wait for the Origins server. I was so excited that I rushed into reactivating already just to play it again.
I played DAoC at release and only for a couple of months... So I wouldn't even know what I was missing.
DAoC is perpetually on my list of "Yeah, I'd like to go back and try that again" games. I just never quite seem to get there. Maybe I will check this out, though, since that server is guaranteed to be packed for a while.

Leveling int he old days wasnt that hard i got a 50 Arms on pellinor in 18 Real life days playing around 5 hours a day. Seems a long time when u can Plvl a toon to 50 in around 14 hours now :P
All archers have self buffs now and it will remain that way on new server and if your a solo type player theres going to be a unique npc buffing system so those not gouped can have buffs elimiting the need to have a buff bot.
I like the idea of the new server as long as they keep the overcapp gear and rare crap out of it.
They will never get the 200k Casual players that got the shaft when TOA came out and quit playing.
But this is a start to get some of the old school players back as long as its close to what the game used to be and for those that dont remember or didnt play then there was no DF or RA's when game launched.
Fight for REALM PRIDE again not for the RP's that come in droves like the game is today. Back when they first started u got 100 or so for a top solo kill now u get 2500-3000. Games changed alot mostly for the worse.
New server might inspire alot of old players to come back for a bit but in the end most will quit when the casual players get the shaft again because they cant compete at 50 pvp because of items and RR.
man this sounds so cool, I miss the good ol' days of camelot. This too was MY first MMO back when I was a kid. A lot has changed since then and the fact that they are bringing things back to the way they used to, I for sure will be resubbin' for this

I usually listen to all opinions before i play a new mmo, but seeing you have a level 70 toon in Conan makes your opinion worthless to me. anyone who plays conan to level 70 obviously doesnt know what a good mmo is. conan is horrible, how could you endure 70 levels of that garbage.
I dearly loved DAoC at her conception. She carried me though the years, providing me with hours of entertainment unmatched by any other game in history; board, card, or electronic. Sometimes she made me laugh out loud and sometimes she made me curse much louder. I praised her achievements and consoled her when she stumbled. And I loved her.
Alas she is old and although she can be made to look as she did in her youth again, inside she is still old. Part of what made her exciting in her youth was her innocense. She was unblimished in appearence and held undiscovered secrets that most yearned to shine a light upon. Today there are thousands who could write a book about her and reveal every detail of her once hidden truths.
I say to you now, that while you may believe a nip tuck is the answer to many prayers, you can not erase the minds of those who await to rediscover her. They all know what lies ahead and while at first it sounds appealing, the road to getting there is already much easier on other servers. It has occured to me that most people like "easy" these days. I do not think you will ever recapture her glory.
Do not make the mistake of believing that this will ever bring back the DAoC we all lost when SI launched.
