SotNW is my GuildWars 2

For over 2 years I’ve enjoyed many hours (1000s) playing GuildWars. I have a lot of good friends that still play (sit around chatting at least) and have experienced a feeling of immersion playing Prophecies (poor Ruric), anger at the almost enforced PvP deaths in Factions (game breaking assassin skills) and horror at myself for being so addicted that I played through Nightfall to that Sega style ending (looks for prozac).
But, GuildWars hasn’t developed as I had hoped; I foolishly believed the marketing. So after the obligatory trials of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, Lineage and a few others. I tried SotNW.

I’m finding the Multi character control better than Heroes; it’s more 3 of you the player; not you stuck with sweaty Koss and boring Dunkoro pulling agro and stealing the good drops. The game is like a gold mine in comparison.  I've played for just a few weeks; reached a mere level 30 (low noob) and have seen hardly any of the game areas. But I have lots of viz (in game currency) and some good weapons and armor and am totally immersed in the world; It could be GuildWars 2 in Disguise.

There are lots of similarities between the two and lots of differences. I can only suggest you try this game if you have found GuildWars limited.

Oh the English is a bit Foreign – but then it is a new world.

Yeah, I actually thought it was very similar to Guild Wars (only much faster paced).  Even the interface is very similar.

I like it better than guild wars overall, but the PvE sucks in this. And the end game is horrible as well. After 6 months of playing, I'm pretty much given it up for LOTRO. If not for a few friends I had made, I probably would quit entirely.

    Yeah, it's a neat game.

But there a lot fo people that just let their team stand round most the day in one spot and lvl them selves - thats kinda the downfall of the game - in some situations.

However it is a pretty cool concept for a game - I just can't seem to stick with it for too long at a time. I have played it off and on sense beta.

    But, either way - enjoy!

I quite like the afk levelling myself. I started with a family member in each profession and keep them level by active playing 3 then semi afk level the other 2.

I find a safe corner spot (brown to yellow monsters) and then get on with housework, checking every few minutes to see if the family are still working or if I have messages.

I think players who leave their family afk in quest areas should be killed, ambers are good for that. I have collected (and been given) a few , but have not had any problems yet.

I can’t imagine how many playing hours is required for veteran status; this game is much bigger than I expected.

Is there any PvP? If so, how is it?

PvP is actually pretty fun, I've thought.

There are regular PvP servers. But even on the non PvP server there is a week fight for colonies, called Colony Wars. Clans fight against other clans.  While a lag fest, it's a lot of fun. (At least when it doesn't lead to week long permawars, with one clan ganking or KSing  the other out of pettiness that they lost the fight during CW)

And there are thrice weekly PvP tournaments (M, W, F) for different character levels.

The mechanics are perhaps not the best, often you either kill another character in one shot with a skill or you don't, but you have 3 characters at one time. So it's very hectic.
