     No forums for war

And yet you somehow think a non-official forum will be any better? Not only do you have to deal with paying customers but every Tom, Dick and Harry that isn't.

Seriously what lunatic spread this lie that people are buying into that a fan forum is better than official.

Because no company is gonna waste money to moderate a hopeless call.

A Fan forum is usually better due to the moderation, WHA usually keeps things prty clean, killing extra post, ect.

But as others said, take a look at other official forums, it comes down to moderation and fan forums will usually do it more because well it is their forums and its more of a passion then a job ect.

I think fan forums may buckle under the pressure due to the time and money constraints if what people are predicting for this game comes true and pulls in 500k subs.

There is no shortage of fan forums, but I do wish they will have at least a Tech Support Forum if nothing else.

Fan forums are fine when they are run correctly, but I have seen evidence that 1 or 2 or WARs fan forums are run by idiots and control freaks.

Such as the terrible only-war forum.  That site should be removed immediately from the fan site listing.  Mods ban people for sneezing in the wrong direction, they impose personal opions on people even to the extend of renaming posts and threads not because of any rule breaking but because their personal opinion is all they care about.

So fan forums are great but need to be regularly checked for mature owners and lack of abuse by mods and owners.  As a bad forum can reflect badly on a game.

A small portion of the population of a mmorpg actually use the official forums.  Usually, in my humble opinion, most official forums are populated by the more "hardcore" player.  I never took a step into any forums while I played everquest.  When I played WoW, i would post in my server's official message board, and it was pretty barren, seeing as it was one of the heavier populated servers.  When I played EQ2, it was the same deal. I viewed the official forums, but they were pretty much void of any serious activity. EQ2flames had more posts then the official forums.

Forums, nowadays, seems to have become the soapbox for the minority player voicing his personal opinion in how the game should change.  Many posts have no constructive disscussions and posts end up turning into whine/and/or/flame fests.  Warhammer has had many "fansite" forums for quite a while that are well established.  Mythic did not have any official forums for DAOC, and I personnaly believe it did not hurt that game in the least.

Most of the fantatics chose to think what I said. And you say pretty much anyone could agree with  them? Well that's very vague. Maybe you could be right.

They wont have official forums because they dont want to listen to there customers.

They want fan sites so there lap dogs can silence there customers and they keep there hands clean

(they dont want a rep like funcom so get there "fans" to do it)

as you can CLEARLY see on warhammer alliance where every single thread about how the EU community is being treated by mythic/goa has been locked or deleted and no answers given to any of the questions apart the usual soon(tm) from goa.

More damage how?  I don't see how they can get away with not having their own forums where they can make important announcments and provide helpful stickies.  More laziness and/or hidding from customers.

THen do us a favor and not play the game. We don't need people recreating a barrens chat.

I would argue many MMORPG veterans argue that the postives of an official forum outweigh the negatives.

I am a vet and feel no forums is smart.  IRL, I don't know any vets who think forums are great.

I was going to mention this on the other thread yesturday but never had time. The one thing I like about forums here we can say anything about a game good or bad as long as we don't break the rules (which are actually arn't bad here) but on the forums the devs visit aka warhammeralliance i think and VN Board forums those mods will shut you down for even questioning the game half of the time. No thnx, not that Mythic has never responded to such, but I just like it here because I can call "BULLSHIT" when I see it.

This is the bit that doesn't make any sense at ALL. People say a company (a organized business that pays people to do a job) can't moderate a forum effectively yet a FAN site (i.e. not a organized business that gets paid for a job) can?

    See a problem there?

I've been playing MMOs since UO and I won't bother visiting fan forums over official forums. Even with the mess the WoW forums are they are better than fan sites.

Probably not but it is possible.

EA used to have poor forums for their games and there was a level of apathy towards them.  Improved forums, podcasts, etc have lessened the hate towards EA and it has actually helped sell their products better IMVHO (eg Command and Conquer franchise).

Well Id think they would Mythic only said they wouldnt be having any forums on their site EA has never said they wont make forums for WAR just like any other of their games, and thats about the most official of a forum for WAR it could get.

    This is true.

But I have not seen any news about WAR forums being launched by EA that I know of.

Seeing as EA has a million forums for all their games Im sure they wouldnt mind adding WAR in.

I would hope so, but I wouldn't assume it to be the case until they confirm that there will be forums run by EA.

I don't know what people you mean, but as far as I can see no one is saying Mythic CAN'T moderate a forum properly, just that they don't WANT to. And who can blame them really? Look at AOC's forum, look at WOW's forum and tell me you would want that crap on your hands.

I personally am happy with in game help for MMOs, and email address, and the fan sites. Ican tell you this much, once I am playing the game the fan sites will no longer hold any interest for me. I will only visit them if I need a question answered.

I  don't really care one way or another about an official forum but I'm just curious how they will handle technical issues.  The technical forum is generally the one that is more useful on an official forum than a fan forum.

Forums would be great but not require. Anyway why would they want to hear us tell them how great their game is? Honestly people why?

    I so hope not

have you checked wow forums latly ? its more bitching then decent discussions. Even this forum has its ups and lots of downs and its not even the official forum

  • NerohNeroh Member Posts: 4

Having official forums allows company's to HIDE away the discontent players have with the game (ie Age of Conan offical forums = major troll and whinge fest).  They're a complete waste of time.

It is better to have public non-associated forums for players to publically peruse.  Greater transperancy and honesty.

Eeeeeeexactly.  I've been thinking right along these lines.  I added one for you. lol only semi-serious.

I guess I applaud them for doing what they can by stripping out stuff they simply couldn't accomplish but at what point does it stop looking positive?  I just hope what's left of the total effort is enough.  I'll say it again... if they've figured out a way to make pvp scenarios so damn fun that it becomes all you really care about kinda like counterstrike was but for the rpg world then I won't card.  I'm just not sure what I'm seeing in vids will do that.
