1. Age of Conan (Abit tied with LOTRO and WAR) 2. Lord of the Rings Online (only appeals to fans of the story, music playing was fun) 3. Warhammer Online (massive cuts of content and a horrible combat system, PQs are fun but a lot of the time unrewarding) 4. Starwars Galaxies (massive amount of fun either advancing your character or making a house, until CU/NGE.) 5. Hellgate London (While beta was fun, there was a lot of stuff I considered bugs, such as the way the servers work. Also tried more to be a diablo 2 sequel then its own original game [Take lessons from Bioshock, they didn't create a system shock sequel, they made a "spiritual sequel".])
I only played 2 mmorpg really sersiousl wich are UO for almost 4 years and then WoW for almost 4 years also but i tried some game in between that never last really long .
So my list would be
1- Age of conan ( played aout 2 hour and quit after lvl 8 what a waste of money )
1. Mourning 2. Thrones of Chaos 3. Realms of Krel 4. Realms of Torment 5. Age of Mourning

Not to mention its last official name "Era of Shadows" and an unreleased title, "Brutal Age".
How this game in its variant incarnations isn't on every single "worst game or company" list on this site is mind boggling. There are far too many veteran posters here that know the story, and were part of the drama, for a mere two mentions of this game to be warranted. This lack of any historic pedagogy is repulsive and exactly the reason they kept attempting to repackage the horrid demon spawn they labeled a game in the first, second, third, forth, fifth, and sixth place. The ignorance regarding this title, it's various namesake companies, and the shady people behind it, has allowed all of them to move on unscathed and unpunished, even allowing some to stay in the same industry they attempted to slip a Roofie to.
There is a reason the largest single thread on MMORPG.com is about this game, and for more new posters not to have been told or given knowledge about it, not to mention the lack of older posters even mentioning it is seriously messed up. Even in a light hearted thread such as this one, where we come to ridicule and complain, this game should take precedence over all others in reception of said ridicule.
I will say that although it seems many older posters are failing to keep this infamous history alive, the fact that the new forum administrator chose to allow the closing of that legendary thread, knowing little if anything about the story herself, may have done more damage than anything. As the speed at which the thread fell into the abyss of lost and forgotten articles probably took its toll on how old and, if any, new information on this subject was acquired and transmitted.
Funny that you should call out possible Vaporware when you yourself attempted to become part of the ressurection of the worst Scamware to ever exist in the MMORPG market.

world of warcraft, I would put older games in front of this one but I needed to name another current game its great if you want something simple but most mmorpg vets cannot stand its shallow gameplay and gear grindfest.
There is upgrades its just set in your powers its no differant then having real items trust me, you can add all differant kinds of things to your powers recharge, extra debuff, dmg and so on. Also you can have multiple costums you eventually get caps, and other pieces like that please give it another shot before you judge the game the only thing it lacks is variety in missions/eviornment unless they changed it by now you dont need flashy gear for upgrades the flashyness is in the powers trust me.

Age of Conan - I bought a new computer to play this one and it still ran terribly. Will probably go down as one of the biggest stumbles in MMO history.
Neocron - Loved it for a month, but content is almost nonexistent, as is the player base.
D&D Online - Tried so hard to like this game, but the sheer repetitiousness and the complete lack of single player content drove me away (I know they've since added solo stuff, but it wasn't there at first)
SMH @ anyone saying EvE is on the Worst 5, Worst 20 Maybe, but there are way more piles of trash then EvE.
The only complaint you can make about EvE is that you can't do a grind session to immediatley catch up to vets and that it can get boring. But its greatest strength is the economy and PvP.
And PS was a pretty good MMOFPS... Why play to pay a online FPS? Because the battles were huge and the battle went on 24/7, not rounds where what you did had little effect on the next round. If you lost a battle you would have to either retreat or try to win the next battle with diffrent tactics.

2. Guild Wars (What is the appeal of this game? Everything is instanced, the community is full of children, and everyone looks the same!)
3. Anarchy Online (After playing a week or two, you've pretty much seen it all or done it all. Everything else is just a copy of the previous content but with a few words moved or a few different creatures.)
4. Second Life (It sickens me that so many people across the world play this game considering that all I found in it were pervs, psychos and uber-psycho-pervs.)
5. Roma Victor (I was so excited when I got picked for the first beta testing but I soon found the game was about as graphically appealing as Asteroids circa Atari. I quit beta after only 2 days and told them they were failures.)
Dishonorable Mention: Project Entropia (Friendly community but the game was utter garbage.)
I have to disagree with all the people posting Face of Mankind though. If you had played FOM in its open beta stage when there were 1,000s of players and a great community, you would have loved it. The role playing was really on a level I never saw before in a MMORPG and it made for some of the greatest MMO experiences I have. Too bad the Devs went and ruined it with a "new engine." New isn't always better.
Anarchy online is sci fi with a little bit of fantasy if you even want to call it that and there is nothing wrong with that alot of sci fi has that, and if that draws you away from a game then you might want to reconsider the fact that all mmorpgs are fictional and it should not matter if it has a little bit atleast its not in a setting of elves and dwarfs.
Anyways the game barly reminds me of fantasy I think people just look for it because they are tired of fantasy setting or its something to do with there personal beliefs. And as far as anarchy online having the same mobs/content over and over you must have only played the classic version because it was barly like that even on the classic version.

I think it is so unfair that people are saying WoW is the worst MMORPG ever because of what it did to the genre. That is like saying that Ford is the worst car company because of their impact on the industry. I used to play WoW and it was entertaining for quite some time. I enjoyed it until I got to 70 with the Burning Crusade and then I became bored. I simply unsubscribed and didn't whine about how terrible the game was because it wasn't.
Now what I do agree with is that WoW has certainly hurt the MMORPG industry by making it relatively stagnant and forcing companies to constantly compare and contrast themselves to WoW. The game has also dumbed down MMOs and taken away a more mature feeling to them that older games like Asheron's Call had. But WoW is not the devil and should definitely not be listed as the "Top 5 Worst." For all its faults, it has also done a lot for the industry. It has created an entirely new generation of MMO addicts and has brought the genre to the mainstream. Companies now strive to make MMOs because they are so popular and a big cash cow if you do it right. WoW has also been a testing ground for many other MMOs. They can see what has worked and what does not. We've seen this with Warhammer using DAoC's PVP System instead of WoWs.
So think before you type and remember that even though WoW has its faults, it won't be king forever and the future of MMORPGs will be better for it.
5 - Lord of the Rings Online: I really hate this game.. Mainly because the dwarf models are way too weird, kinda too small or something.

3 - Guild Wars: Seriously now, what game uses gold color for rare items and GREEN for unique?? This makes me feel so disappointed at how childish the developers must be in order to do something like that, just to confuse their customers. I hate it.
