Altism syndrome

Every time I play an mmorpg I end up making a ridiculous amount of alts and my highest character ends up being mid-level.  I almost never max because I keep wanting to try new classes and skills because I get bored of the same old thing.   I believe the only two times I've maxed a character are in DAoC and WoW.  I would like to add that I've played every significant mmorpg on the market.  Does anyone else have this same problem?  and if so is there a cure for it?

The only cure is playing an open char. (sandbox) style game where you are forced to play one toon only... then again that just leads to a lot of retraining and trying other skills and never really getting a final set-up/temp.

So no, I guess there is no hope

i had the same problem when i played DAoC, and although i tryed i couldnt focus on one character.  but i kinda liked having a few alts in each realm, theres a lot of variety and the game doesnt get old as fast (DAoC never got old for me), im pretty sure theres no cure for having a lot of alts, so look at the positives at having a lot of alts

Not sure there needs to be a cure. I have "Altism" and while I used to regret missing out on higher level stuff in games, I have come to realize that as soon as I pass the mid-level range, whatever game I'm in loses most of its mystery and becomes a disappointment.

I suppose I like to believe there is always another undiscovered adventure beyond the horizon, and this feeling fades away the higher in level I climb.

well sandox is the best option though, when you can do what you want at least you have near unlimited possibilities

i've enjoyed games that were sandbox or similar much longer than any others

it's the routine and pre-defined quests and tasks that kill me

I am a confirmed alt'itis player.  Love playing lil guys as you can actually see them get stronger as you level - once they reach mid level in most games, the change slows to a treacle like ooze and i loose intrest in them.  You just have to bite the bullet, pick the one or 2 you like the most, and take them on up, whilst playing the lil guys to stop you goin nuts - worked for me.  A lvl 50 mini took like a year or more but during that time i had like 24 other alts to cheer me up.  I went to hib after leaving GOA to get stuffed and playing on US, and found that bg's was where it was at.  Had 3 rangers, 24, 39, 49, 2 shades 24, 39, 3 bards etc.  Was a bit tricky getting up the last levels but when they added turning off xp/rps it was great!  Just played in the bg that was most fun at the time - glad they did as it was a pain in the wassit to delete a 39 and lvl a replacement hehe.

    Keep up the alts!

As a PvE-junkie I often used the /xpoff to just camp the same mobs for days, lol.  I know most people say it's "stupid" or "a waste of time"... but so is this entire hobby and at least I was having fun.  I mean honestly, any old-timer albion vet remembers camping the pygmy goblin house... I just did that for several days... and with many alts... and many other camps/mobs, lol.   It's a sickness, I know.
