When someone in Norway is editing the Wikipedia entry for Age of Conan to remove criticisms of the crappy game, you know the company's really run out of options.
To commit fraud, you have to intentionally mislead people with the purpose of causing harm to them, and it has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law since it would be a criminal case(at least in the US). This is not intentional, it is a bug/error with their billing system. Many other corporations across the world have had problems with accidential credit card billing. 99.9% of them never get charged with fraud. Why? Because it was accidential and they remedied the issue in a (somewhat) timely fashion.
Heck, it's not even the first MMO to have such problems. Tabula Rasa and Hellgate most recently, if I was ambitious I would look up more.
Yes, they messed up. They deserve to be ridiculed and criticized for their mistake. They do not deserve to be called a villian or thief for it (Unless, by some obscure chance it is discovered to be intentional, in which case I will recind my statements).

Well, you know, Gaute needs something to do with all his free time. It's not like he's actually doing anything at work.
If you look the report has many dates. August 14th is the release date of the information as stated in the " funcom risk overview " previously released. August 14th is also the date it was authorised to be released and signed off. june 30th was the audit date ( which facts and figures were collected and based upon ). june 30th was the end of Q2 which if you look the first page is report Q2. august is in Q3 not included in this report.
the term " current " is current at the time the figures were collected. Eg if i write a book at the time of the facts i put in it is Current, but if i publish my book 1 year on it would still say current data, this is was current at the time of writeing.
Also you cannot go on the information in the presentation.pdf as fact, I quote " Steady revenues from Anarchy Online and Plutolife. " Funcom has actualy sold Plutolife to another company earlier this year, so they no longer have steady revenues from this. " 28 Jul Australian mobile content firm Jumbuck (ASX: JMB) scooped up Plutolife AS , another mobile social networking company, in an acquisition valued at $3.7 million, Mobile Entertainment reports. Plutolife was the subsidiary of Swiss-Norwegian games developer Funcom, which is based in Oslo"
Launch bubble I'm thinking. Investors are simply still coming to grips with how this market and it's launches work, but it turned out the bags of money didn't fly out of the windows of the Blizzard offices straight into the hands of the new thing.
I don't see the point of people referring to a drop in value of Funcom's stock. The stockmarket is hardly representative of the true value of a company. Perfectly healthy companies can accumulate a drop in value at the stockmarket simply because of emotional investors placing sell orders based on pessimistic and unfounded gossip. The technology market in general is rather unstable at best. Look at Microsoft, its stock has gone down approximately 23 % since January 2008. Doesn't mean that 23 % of the people recently switched from Windows to Macintosh or Linux.
So what does this drop in Funcom's stock value mean? Well it depends on wether you are interested in investing your money in stock, or wether you are a customer of theirs. In case of the former, now would be a good time to invest your money in Funcom, at least if you can stomach the volatile nature of the market. In case you are a gamer, you can rest assured that stock value will have no impact on your experience of the game.
Funcom is publicly saying: - 415.000 customers per 14th August - source: Investor presentation
- BUT 415,000 customer number is from 30th June - source: Q2 financial report
One of these 2 is incorrect and I'd be willing to bet it's the August one since everyone quit during July and early August I'd love to hear a clarification on this as to why the 2 numbers are the same because this actually appears to me to be fraudulent reporting to investors
Where is your proof of incorrect filing?.Fraud is a charged word , Making such a strong accusation should be given with some form of proof. Thinking everyone quit is in no way proof , we have two official numbers 800k boxes sold , 415k customers . That means almost 400k people quit ,which is a substantial amount .
During launch and in the weeks after, the few servers I tried were packed. Now, I hear they are drying up a bit .Which is explained in those numbers , their player base was cut in half .
By September I'd expect those numbers to be closer to 300k by oct-nov 200k . Lets not forget it's still summer , The only game to come out this summer was AOC which made it filler for WAR and WOTK .That will change in September and the months following , WAR , SPORE and quite a few other AAA titles are relasing .
Sure the number is higher than most would expect (The average guess has been around 200k), However you have to consider all circmustances, before thinking there's something screwy in that player count . Summertime , Only mmo to come out for a while , People growing bored of 4-5 year old games and it has a big name slapped on the box ,Conan......

So you sincerely think that the number is identical now to the end of June? <shrug> In my opinion they are lying deceitful b*st*rds. The stock price would suggest the shareholders agree. The investor presentation is so clearly a lie, can't prove that of course.

I don't sincerely think anything in terms of sub numbers A) I'm not playing (haven't since june ) There's no where to find the proof .
If it's a lie, Then they are committing fraud. Which is completely idiotic,Not to mention Illegal. It's basically corporate suicide.

But Funcom just reported it's customer number as "415,000 as of August 14th" in their investor presentation This is fraudulent reporting since the number is from a Q2 report for 30th June
Well guess what you do not know will not hurt you. It is too bad that with so many people not liking the game an Adult can actually whine and Complain and point fingers so much. I am still playing the Game, they have fixed some of the memory Leaks and unlike the 1000 that used the game mechanics to exploit to 80 within a week and then get banned and come to this Board to rag about how they got their feelings hurt is funny. I have been reading the post from Just you alone ,and I swear I think sombody got your panties while you were sleeping.
I can understand the disappointment about the game that you could not play I played SWG, but that is something that none of us could change. They are supposed to be patching out the Memory leak this coming week and DX10 was announced somewhere in the next 4 weeks.
The Speculation about the "numbers" on your part id definately wrong, I have made yet another character to play and there are a lot of players in the starting Tortage area, You leaving just cleared up the chat windows from whining.
I have been testing the Game on my 3 machines here at home, and the only time I have patcher issues, memory leaks or any graphical errors is from a "Dupe" of windows Xp or vista. They have posted fixes for a lot of the problems on the forums and if you can get past the whiners post they do work. If you have pirated software like OS's then the problem does show because windows cannot recieve the updates that solve the issue.
I have grown to love this game and the announcment of stocks of that small ammount being sold and getting you a hard on amuses me even more. There are a lot of good things to come from what I am seeing and hearing and I for one will stick with them until they finish.
Each individual has an option to play or not to play any game that is made, but to run and whine when you get banned, caught cheating, or just could not get that POS machine to run it is so very very ignorant.

Pretty sure no one is being fooled at this point.
Well except the hardcore fanbois, but they are zealots, and zealots never see reason even if it's rammed into their eyeballs threw their backside.

It is only a matter of time before the ship sinks. Wait a minute... Why does the ship have to sink? Why can't it burn? Fire is way more fun to watch!

Actually, Funcom is receiving those payments for the sale of Plutolife in installments, thus it's a steady stream....http://www.funcom.com/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi?func=publish.show&func_id=1315&table=CONTENT
