World of Warcraft for the biggest variety of PvE content and encounters. Has a great flow of game play, and variety of strategies that can be used by their classes.

But i would say Everquest is the best PvE MMO.  PvE in Everquest really felt like Player Vs Environment. The Environment in that game was a lot less forgiving. You made rash moves at your own peril. You couldn't just run away for a bit after something that was aggressive to you caught sight of you. It would chase you forever until you zoned or were dead. The Environment was a consideration. Some areas you just did not mess around. Some areas you didn't mess around with at certain times. And you never just blindly walked up to a camp without scouting it out first using your consideration commands.

I hear AC had a very good PvE system as well, but have never played it.

Final Fantasy XI has the best PVE of any MMO I've ever played. WoW could be my second choice..

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

I would suggest Vanguard.. many havent tried it since its release and they have made a 180 degree turnabout...  there are Tons of quests and the world is HUGE like no other.. and many chain type quests that lead you on a grand adventure..

Casual player -> City of heroes

More hardcore -> Final Fantasy XI

both are fantastic games imo, and ive enjoyed pve the most in these two titles.

    Vanguard and WoW.

Currently, Vanguard would be my choice for the best PvE game on the market. EQ1 has the most content out of any PvE MMO to date and that is due to it being out for more than 10 years. FFXI is decent but it is the most grinding PvE game out there and that seems to put off most of todays type of instant gratification players. I would say that  WoW and EQ2 are very close together in the amount of content but I would say EQ2 may have a slight edge because it actually has more expansions released as well as  3 or 4  additional adventure packs available. LOTRO is about 2 months away from releasing it's first official expansion, however, it has released a decent amount of free content. IMO LOTRO is very linear as well as having a small world to explore but the graphics are music is very well done.

I am currently not playing Vanguard but that still does not change my opinion of it being the best of the PvE MMOs.

Agreed.  I would say CoH is currently the best.  I played WoW for a litte bit but now I wouldn't go back if Blizzard was paying me $15 a month.

Ive pretty much played them all. Each has its plusses and minuses. Right now my PVE game of choice is Vanguard.

If you are into questing, there are over 12000 quests. If you are into exploring there is an unparalleled HUGE world to explore. If you are into dungeon crawling, there are more huge dungeons than you can shake a stick at.  If you are into soloing, that is no problem. If you are into grouping, that is no problem either. If you want a flying mount....you can get it. if you want a boat to sail the high seas, you can get it. If you want a little cottoage on a cliff overlooking the sea, you can get it. If you want to craft till your eyes bleed, you can do it. If you want to be a diplomat, and fathom the lore of the game, you can do it. its a very well rounded game, and I get 60-100 fps on my rig almost everywhere.

In the last two weeks my guild has added over 20 new players, most of whom are 'brand' new subscribers--and with the coming 'trail island' and character customization revamp, the population will only increase. Its worth checking out.

I couldn't get into Vanguard for that reason.  It felt way too much like another Lotro or WoW.  I was hoping for a sandbox game and one where people grouped a lot.

If you are into insane grinds, FFXI, epitome of the grind part can be found in a few bosses Sony lovingly releases that take 18+ hours to kill.

Otherwise WoW right now. You'll have a bit of catching up to do, but thankfully they are going to a bit of a darker tone with Lich King.

Lord of the rings online is another I'd possibly recommend, but I am not a fan of the crafting blocks they force you to choose from, and there have been more than a few moments in that game that has annoyed me. Oh, and the (M)PvP is worse than WoW.

    Everquest 2 without a doubt.

Understood. VG is not a traditional sandbox, and IMO has too many quests, many of which are trivial tasks. But you dont have to do them. there is no linear track in Vanguard, like there is in WoW or Lotro. And if you know where to go, there are plenty of groups to be had.  In recent weeks Ive had some of the best grouping experiences Ive ever had in any game --in Vanguard. Long dungeon crawls with a consistent and well-oiled team, and lots of social interaction along the way. You just have to know where to go.. At the dungeon hotspots groups are constantly forming. But if you dont know where to go, and are just wandering about in the vast countryside, Vanguard can be a very lonely place.

I agree with Bhuma, I recently went back to Vangaurd and it is amazing.

  • biggdoggidbiggdoggid Member Posts: 18

Bhuma, where would you go for such group play on Kojan?

  • TsukanoTsukano Member Posts: 159

If you want a good, hardcore PvE game I'd go for FFXi. Very good game (just make sure u set the graphics up otherwise it looks fuzzy). Only reason i dont play it any more is b/c i like PvP/RvR and FFXI doesn't have a good pvp system. Just hope you actually like to group unlike WoW junkies that wanna solo to cap, cuz its nearly impossible to solo very far in this game (if you do it will take forever). But MMO's are ment to be played with others, and you can find groups fairly easily in FFXI.

If its not your taste and you want somethin a lil more casual/easy, go for LoTRO or Vanguard. Not incredibly easy (stil a decient amount of time needed to be put in), but more casual and easier to learn imo.

Protip: If someone does NOT list at least one positive and one negative about the game they are critiquing, its best to ignore the post.

LOL, i was thinking the same thing. it is made by square enix...

I would go for Vanguard as the best PvE game out there right now. That said it is not for the light-hearted even thought they adjusted the drop rates and the overall tedious aspect of the game a lot. What I like best is that you can head any direction at any time and you don't have to follow a certain route to progress.

If you are strictly into PvE, VG is worth a try for sure.

    LOTRO

I have played Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Vanguard.... I just started playing LOTRO and am ever so glad I picked it up. Unlike the games I previously mentioned, LOTRO does an excellent job of immersing you into the world of Middle Earth. The quests play out as little stories within the landscape, that all seem to interconnect with the main theme of the game.

While being used to other MMO's of this nature, it wasn't to difficult to get into and start playing. EQ2, WoW, Vanguard all have their strengths and cons, but LOTRO seems to embody the best of all of these worlds.

    • Easy to startup and get into like WoW
    • Deep, abundant lore driven content like WoW or EQ2
    • Large seamless world, detailed and beautiful like Vanguard
    • Familiar game systems that help to add to your characters customization such as dyes and dress-up rooms, etc.
    • Community that is alive, healthy and helpful

Fortunately LOTRO offers a 14 day trial, and I would inclined to have you download it and give it a go. I recommend before you accept your first quest, to get yourself in the mindset to READ the quest log. Read what the NPC's are saying in regards to the quest. If you don't read, you'll be missing out on something Turbine did so well in LOTRO. The little bits of the story, all connected with this one event in Middle-Earth.

If you don't bother reading, don't bother downloading. My two cents.
