The best place to check for a release date is the official Aion website. If a release date has not been announced, it means that we don't have one yet.
Pre-order dates announcing a release in 2008 are incorrect. We have recently mentioned 2009 for Aion's release, but nothing more specific than that.

I take a look at the official Aion website.. Now why would anyone in their right mind want to subscribe to the Aion newsletter? A game in development for the longest time with it's release date seeming to keep being pushed later every day?
It's very unfair for the MMO community to get them hyped up about a game that NCSoft had barely started working on at the time, then 2 1/2 years later(seems it's been that long since I first heard about that game) and it's still not done. It should be a crime to promote a game before it's at least 3/4 done. That's like waving food in front of an ethiopian kid, then you tell him when you're gonna give it to him, then after you tell him that you can't give it to him because it's not cooked, then afterwards you say you can't give it to him because the food isn't properly decorated with vegetables n' gravy, etc.
Now, why(against common f**king sense) would you tell an ethiopian that you would give him food then intentionally pull it away when you knew you would only give it to him after it's cooked and decorated? He's already dying from the hunger, why enhance the pain by giving him false hope? That shit reminds me of an episode of South Park Season 3 "Starvin' Marvin in space", but that's another story. Same thing goes for NCSoft, they know that we will want to play their game. As soon as they think up of the idea, they decide to publish it and set a release date. They push the release date and promise many things. They push the release date once again, and again.. you get the picture?
I think NCSoft should've only started mentioning anything about Aion sometime just after summer started! But no, instead they show off their might-be features for the longest time while other games are being released and being PLAYED(yes, that's right PLAYED, by MMO fans, playing a FINISHED GAME). NICE GOING!
They say they don't want to release their game until it's perfect? Well that'll never happen. The best MMORPGs have had bugs, gliches, something they programed that upsets the game balance, that's why they have ZOMGz0rs'UPDATES'!! To correct and fix those problems! Or... to add more content! WHAT DO YA KNOW!? If they release everything in their game all at once, it'll just be overwhelming, not 'different and unique' like every little emo kid wants to be. On top of that we'll just get bored all at once. Bad move on your part NCSoft, no doubt about it, 100%.
Shit!..
Anyhow I have one more thing to say... NCSoft... your food had better be good by the time you finish cooking it, buttering it up gravy, serving it with potatoes and stuffing... I'm talking about the release of Aion for those of you who just skipped through my entire post and only reading the last paragraph. Damm you tools!

Errr....huh?
Frankly, I think Aion had ZERO hype up until CBT started a few months ago. Other than that, I believe NCSoft has every right to dish out this thing called informationregarding their next big title, um, just like every other company. I don't know what your definition of 'Hype' is, just don't confuse this company with whatever other irrelevant companies that wastes half their budget on marketing.
There's a difference between an 'official release date', which NCSoft never claimed, and an 'estimated release date' which they said once over 2 years ago. Since I have yet to see a gifted fortune teller working for any game company, I think it's pretty damn good that they only missed their target date by 6 months.
If you don't want people to skip to the last paragraph, then try not to fill your post with so much garbage.

a 3 year development cycle for this game is good compared to what AoC is with a 5 year development. You know they wasted all their money on marketing instead of on the game.

I think you meant this to the Darkfall forums, or the Spellborn forums.
It's that way >>>>>>>>>>>>
Also as pointed out, you have are very misinformed about MMOs and today's trends.

Well the "preview tests" will begin in q1 of '09 so I am guessing it will be released in q2, just my opinion though.
Aionelysium.com
The preview events start late Q4 2008 starting at GC lepizig and PAX and go thru Q1 2009.
Release dates are lies, nothing official, atm i'd like to know more about the preview events at home when CG and PAX ends
