Hey I'm an old EQ player looking for something similar but more modern.
Can any players answer a few questions?
Is the game difficult like old school eq was?
what is this no level limit thing? does that mean I can get to level 2billion? haha
how is the pvp? i checked and found that a ffa pvp and team pvp server merged so which is it now? (sartok)
are most equipment crafted or looted?
can diplomats and crafters engage in battle?
is there an insta warp travel feature or the ole hoofing it?
any bigtime severe gameplay or balance issues?
thanks alot!

The new trial island will be out soon, probably in mid September. You can then try it out for yourself. There are plenty of old EQ1 players that are now happily playing Vanguard, myself included. No its definitely not as difficult as old school EQ1. But it offers a much better challenge than EQ2, WoW, or Lotro, and has an EQ1 'feel' about it, much more so than those other games. Its worth checking out and forming your own opinion.
Hi,
It had an EQ feel about it, no doubt theres been a lot of work done to imrove the bugs and smooth it out. However, any sense of challenge has been torn right out. It really is carebear now. I f you want a fluffy mmo that runs ok, Vanguards not bad now. If you want a challenge and something with depth, move on cause its not for you. Shame really, it had enormous potential.
Lol. Ummm ok I'll bite.
Move on to where? EQ2, nope its easier than VG. WoW, nope its easier than
VG. Lotro, nope its easier than VG. City of Heroes, nope its easier than VG. Got any good suggestions?
The only AAA titles that might have greater challenge are FFXI, Eve, or Lineage 2. If you are looking for serious challenge look there.
But VG is far from being just a fluffy 'carebear' game as the poster above me implies. He is obviously a person whose ultra hardcore expectations were shattered when VG did not provide an EQ1 clone, which could hope to provide a challenge to an 'uber' group of six experts. Me? Im just a dummy. When I wander into VG dungeons appropriate for my level, with maybe one or two other people, I find them very challenging.
As I said in my earlier post, its best to form your own opinions about these things rather than listen to some opinionated know it all, blinded by his own expectations.

Well, in the end, the challenge is a bit relative.
Everquest 2 still has some dungeons and raids that are more challenging than Vanguard´s content, even in the EoF era, MMCastle were a harder place for healers and tanks than any Vanguard dungeon, while usually Vanguard´s dungeons were harder than simple EQ2 small group areas.
Lineage 2 is a easy game PvE wise, very easy to tell the truth, but time consuming, this is why 90% os players uses bot to level, this mean it is a simple and easy game but very grindy, PvP is more challenging.
Final Fantasy is a challenging game as some zones in Guild Wars like FOW are harder than most Vanguard dungeons.
I think there is a huge differance between hard and challenging gameplay and time consuming, to tell the truth, I think Vanguard is well balanced in this area, yes, it could recieve some harder dungeons as the top dungeons in EQ2, but it is ok right now.
The major issue is the lack of talented developers and devs these days among Vanguard crew.
