It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
1. PLAYER SHIP INTERIORS (PSIs) ARE IN. Not just the bridge. But corridors and decks, and sickbay and quarters. YOUR OWN SHIP, to explore and use as housing, and to invite other player aboard to socialize and join you on missions. SWEET. PE had canned PSIs, and were going to provide ships as mounts, meaning only an exterior view. This shows Cryptic knows what they are doing, and will not be making WoW in space. No more Galaxy and Sovereign-Class ships as HUBs. Now you can have one as YOUR OWN.
2. INFINITE EXPLORATION. Trekkies will whine that combat is not what Trek is about. Sure, it is not fundamentally, but it is part of Trek. From Kirk's fistfights, to the Borg, Romulans, Klingon battles, the Dominion conflict, combat is really a part of Trek. But exploration and discovery is to, and STO will feature infinite exploration, meaning you will discover new worlds as captain of your ship.
3. DEEP SPACE NINE (DS9) IS IN. Jack Emmert mentioned the famous station is in. How cool is that? We may not be able to go through the wormhole until expansion time, but we can trade and socialize and live at DS9, have a drink at Quark's, and go to Ba'Jor.
Crptic Studios is really like a hero to all of us who followed Perpetual Entertainment's joke of a development, they have rescused STO from the ashes it was burned into by PE. If STO was really being turned into a Legacy Online experience, or a WoW in space, then I really would give up on it. But thankfully Cryptic wants to make a truly great MMO on Trek.
MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT THE GRAPHICS IN SOME OF THE SCREENSHOTS ARE SUB-PAR, FOR THE GENRE. SOME OF THE SPACE SCREENSHOTS ARE NOT GOOD, AND THE AVATAR QUALITY IS LOW.
But there could be polishing until release, and who knows...

Im going to try it just for the fact its Startrek lol huge fan of ST. And I have been wanting to play a space type mmo. Tried EVE but couldent really get into it. Annoyed me I couldent really customize my ships in that game.. the look an such. Alot of the ships really looked lame and couldent see INSIDE of it or anything lol. Watched the intervew about STO an seems we will be able to customize the look of the ship inside and out so hell yeah I will give it a go.

Agree with your statement.......
The very first episode to air on TV had a phaser kill. Star Trek is home to brutality. Sure it isn't the main purpose......but hand to hand combat rears it ugly head often in ST.
We meet again WARRIOR...
If I recall correctly you took a similar stance with the PE version of STO. It wasn't until the powers that be with STO.NET Banned you, that you began to attack them....and WOW you really let them have it.

Not sure what your motive was then, but I can assure you that the New Boss is the same as the Old Boss. Make no mistake, this game will fail. It will fail because Cryptic has no heart. They are not hungry to make a cool game that they will be proud of...they are looking for an easy pay-day and nothing more.
I will continue my campaign of hate and discontent as long as STO continues in this direction. Deal with it or not...it won't change a thing.
I am here to stay...sticking up for TRUE star trek fans everywhere.
ROFL
Ease up, Realm-Reaper. You and I are like minds, but I think you are pulling the guns out too early with Cryptic Studios. You have a pretty itchy trigger finger there!
I have to say that, going through that proud history of dissent and debate you linked, you and I were right about PE and STO-NET much more than we were wrong. (What were we ever wrong about?).
I recall that you called out Gods and Heroes and Star Trek Online, under PE, to be vaporware well before others started calling them that. AND YOU WERE SPOT-ON.
However, I HAVE LOST NONE OF MY CAUTION AND EXPECATIONS of STO now that Cryptic Studios has the IP. I have gone over the new game plan with a microscope.
And most of my original complains of STO under PE have been resolved under Cryptic.
1) PSIs are in
2) there will be a non-Federation playable race, the Klingons, with more to come in expansions
So far Cryptic Studios have proven themselves to be the POLAR OPPOSITE of PE. CS meets their deadlines, actually provides concerete stuff to show the fans, and does not play propoganda games.
I am still skeptical. CS can change their plans. And I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE GRAPHICS, I don't want the game to be cartoony, nor do I expect it to photorealistic either.
But I feel STO is headed in the right direction. Realm-Reaper, let's debate it out. Specifically, from the information we have, we are you so upset with the direction the game is in?
Don't get your hopes up or excited just yet. Stay more of the neutral side of things if possible.
While I do have confidence in Cryptic producing a good game for their targeted audience, there is still a chance that STO may not go live or turn out right. I'm not saying that this will happen, nor encouraging it; but the possibility does exist. For example, Age of Conan by FunCom doesn't seem to be doing well, even though made by an experienced company, great graphics and having a high budget.
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
Oh man not you guys again! You guys have been at it for years now.... how do you guys have the stamina for it? The same old same old tactics all over gain... first comes the "Here's why" posts and "This sucks" posts and "This rocks" posts, those containg a series of "I think this is the case man! - Nahaa, thats not flying Bob, this here's fact! - Are you high? This is the truth!" Etc etc etc. and then comes the (drumroll) lists. Oh yes, the lisssssssts. Those wonderful little pieces art mixing fantasy, fact and assumptions with both bold and italic fonts and numbers. They usually start out modest but by the time you guys have broken em down, built them up again, challenged this and that yadayada bla bla bla they finally emerge at the end, not unlike a butterfly emerging from cocoon at spring to feel the first rays of light, as HUGE colorful novell that would even amaze Spock in its complexity to decipher! But then.... maybe one gets banned and you settle down for abit, shake hands and pet eachother on the belly for job nice done. Then BAM a few weeks later some more news comes out and we are back to square one.
Now dont get me wrong, I enjoy your little ... whatever they are. Im just simply amazed at yer endurance and willpower to do it for years. Kudos to ya! Keep fightin... Hoozah!
Mos out.
*Plilululuwuip* One to beam up. *Schwaaaaaaang*
"Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures."
Your pep talk was a little soft....I want to hear it with feelings.
I agree with every point here (as to why you should play the game). What I don't agree with is the comment about graphics. You see, World of Warcraft should have defined one thing over everything else it defined and that is: You don't need break-your-system graphics to have a successful MMO. In fact, the opposite is true. I mean, look at the genre definers right now: World of Warcraft, Eve Online, Guild Wars. None of them have tip-top graphics and yet they are still growing in numbers.
I don't think the graphics that will be featured in Star Trek Online will be improved much at all. Firstly, Cryptic are nto renowned for thier top-of-the-line graphics enginge. Quite the opposite in fact. Secondly, Mr. Emmert has already mentioned that they want the game to run on a wide vareity of systems and not just the high end systems.

As always your total premise is flawed to the core. Warrior got banned because his attitude about STO had changed not the other way around. His attitude had changed long before he got banned and in fact was the very reason he got banned. Why would he get banned if he thought everything was peachy keen? That doesn't even make any sense at all. As always Reaper you are dead wrong and your logic is seriously flawed. Not to mention that you keep trying to say that Darron Stinnett is still in charge which has been repeatedly proven as false but because you choose not to believe it, it must be not true.

I liked perpetuals ideals much more than Jack-ass Emmerts watered down product. Why have your own ship? Why not form a crew of...gasp..real players. Also, creating your own race is going to not only destroy canon but it will kill the immersion in the game. Lastly, Klingon vs. Starfleet PvP? Why didn't they pick the Romulans or some race that isnt on friendly terms with Starfleet?

That's right. I was a supporter of PE and STO-NET until PE scrapped ship interiors. Then started to raise hell at STO-NET and at MMORPG. the more PE dumbed down the game the more STO-NET became a sycophant. I was banned at STO-NET because I was targeted for my 'activism.' STO-NET even managed to get me banned at MMORPG. I was targeted, really.
Well, I am back and the hell of the last few years seems to be lifted with Cryptic. Cryptic has addressed many criticisms and I think they deserve support and a chance. Realm-Reaper really has jumped the gun and attacked for no reason, since everything Cryptic has done so far has been excellent. Sure, there are a few concerns, like the console question and the graphics, but nothing to shout about yet.
I'm willing to give Cryptic Studios a chance. I think they are headed in the right direction. I am not giving them a free pass, but what they have shown to us so far exclipsed anything PE did in their 4 years of development hell.
Personally I loved some of the combat sequences in ST-DS9 and the movies.
To me combat in Star Trek is a natural part of the show. Not just the touchy feely garbage you see on some episodes....OK OK alot of the episodes!!
As far as the graphics I hope they clean it up too.
Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR.
Playing EVE Online and AOC.
Wtg for SW:TOR and WOD
To those that wanted players to be a crew for a starship, I don't think you would find enough people to play the boring rolls like navigator or communicator. I suppose it's possible they can add that in as an option to a limited degree which might satisfy your needs, but to me each person having their own ship is the right direction. Having at least two sides is a must for me and the only reason I didn't play LotR when it came out, no conflict is unthinkable! I can't see any reason not to like making your own race up at creation and look forward to that.
I'm guessing that the graphics will be better than what they showed. The game isn't going to be released for about another 3 years. I think they have a little time clean it up a bit.
I could see a griefer on the ship crew that PE suggested..........sabotaging the ship and blowing up everyone on board. That would be fun.
Oh Captain I breached the warp core.....oopsy daisy
Make it so.

The latest storyline blog, has me excited. The level of detail and awareness of canon is admirable, especially given that that blog was one of what 20 or 30 to come.
Cryptic Studios has my confidence. I am looking forward to their STO.
Huh I didn't know you got banned from MMORPG (Warrior). I must have been distracted with PE and their crap.
Yeah, this game is going to be awesome. Long time Trek Fan and I've been waiting for a good Space MMO
I did get banned. I was banned from STO-NEt too. so during my most vocal days of protest I was completely banned.
I'm back now. But the activity at MMORPG is real, real low.
