The only good thing about AoC is greifing with their laughably unbalanced pvp. And they are taking greifing out of the game soon and making it even more of a lovely WoW clone.
Funcom is structuring the hell out of pvp so no one ever gets "ganked" or killed when they don't want to be killed. Even on the "pvp servers". Because AoC isn't about pvp; it's about pve grinding for "phat lewts".

and I don't go by subscription numbers, then WoW would be. WoW is old, boring and childish - as is a lot of the flameposts on this board. Is AoC the perfect game? No. Does it have issues, bugs, lacks? Yes. Was AoC rushed, things missing? Yes. Still, I'd rather be playing AoC, than being bored to death with the other games out there that is either more limited, old, boring, cloned. Notice the flamers don't really have any option to playing AoC, they are either waiting (!) for another game, or going to games like Vanguard, Tabula Rasa... Well, if you're waiting for a game, you're not really playing it are you...
What about upcoming games? Well Warhammer is soon to be released, and from what is said, it's less buggy and more polished. And will probably have more subscribers than AoC. I don't really care, it still looks like a boring WoW-clone, alot of people seem to think it's just boring.
The only game that could really challenge AoC is Darkfall. However Darkfall got shitty graphics, and it isn't as unlimited as you'd like it to be. Though it's a step in the right direction.
Until something better shows up I'll continue subscribing to AoC. Not only because it's the game I prefer to play, but it's a support for someting new and innovative in the MMO buisness. I might leave if I see a better game, but not before.

AoC is a poor PvE grinder with nice graphics and a slightly different melee combat system.
Every other system in the game is the same, and in most cases worse, than comparable systems found in other games.
Technically, it's a mess, with all the client instability.
It's funny that people can claim AoC is the best MMO out, even when they admit all the problems is has. It's like they are still proclaiming it the best based on the potential they think it has. They all have potential, and AoC continually fails to realize that potential.
Right now, it seems they are more interested in playing strategy games with the release dates for significant systems so they are in the right posture for the release of WAR.

AOC is a fine game. im having fun. saw my first purple epic drop last night off a random mob too.(lvl 51) yea yea, heard it all b4 you're only level 50 wait till...blah blah... the game is what you make it. it suits me fine. itll suit other people fine too. it wont suit all fine. ill sue you.
I'll admit it has its moments, especially up into the 50's. After that it takes a community effort to have fun and level, which is difficult considering the community. My guild was great, however I have erradic playtimes so coordinating with them was difficult. I cancelled on principle more than frustration, just didn't want to fund yet another games development like I did SWG. If they repair melee mechanics, dupes, bugs, and add more solo friendly pve I'll likely return. It can't be the best on the market at any level though, its lost too many subscriptions to justify such a statement. Maybe the best for some people, but not the best from a stability standpoint.

Hai guyz, I'm level 18 and almost done with the Tortage destiny quest. This game has to be pure gold after all the content they put into the game for 1-20. I now have a 1 year sub to AoC. I look forward to playing to 80! My necro is going to be a pvp monster.

You do realize that levels 1-20 are the only part of the game that is almost completely functional
Thats one of the reasons people have such a major issue with Funcom...they created a perception that the rest of the game is as polished as the first 20 levels .

I've been doing that since 2005, I still haven't quite found something I completely enjoy. AOC would actually be at the top of the list for me over that period of time. It's certainly not the best.
However, my personal preference would be the game play in AOC compared to most games I've tried.
For most people the most important aspect of a game is the gameplay, if you don't like the gameplay in WOW, you don't have many options to choose from. If you can't stand space sim's EVE is out of the question, what's left SWG (which was wowified) ? Oh, lets not even go into free asian grinders.
The market is saturated with clones, there's no argument against this fact. Why do you think the most played MMO's aside from WOW are either free or games most view as not even MMO's(Guild Wars) ?
