While that is unfortunate, this doesnt apply if you preordered it the more "smarter" way. If you pre ordered the game at a brick and mortar store (Best Buy, Target, Wal*Mart. etc) all you need is the receipt to pick  up your game. If you are moving you can always call the store you are moving closest to you. Show them the receipt and they will make accomadations for you.

I never ever ever recommend preordering an MMORPG on the internet. I could never figure out why people do that. If you pre ordered it in a physical store your chances of having your order screw up drops significantly. If you order it online, you can have delays, this moving issue, etc.

There is no benefit to pre ordering online unless you live in the middle of nowhere.

That is pretty bad, that company should do something other then screw the guy's pre order over like that.

lol, its true. Ive been saying NEVER preorder online since 2001. I never can understand why people still do it (unless you live in the middle of nowhere). If someone has a best buy, wal*mart, target, etc near them and they pre-order online...Im sorry to sound politically incorrect...but they are just not too bright.

Im not giving EA an excuse for what they did (as they need to fix this issue)but this is EXACTLY one of the many reasons who online preordering is just dumb to do

I think he was making a point that "more smarter" is not proper grammar.  The proper wording would just be "smarter" without the more in front of it.

It was just ironic that you are talking about doing something smart, but made a grammar mistake.

Anyway, explanation aside, I agree with you.  Stuff like this happens all the time with online preorders.  I remember when WoW came out, some people didn't get their boxes for 2 or 3 weeks.  Things go wrong with online preorders with EVERY MMO game.

Although, I also agree it is dumb that you can't change your address after ordering.

I'd agree with you fully, Enigma, except he didn't buy it online from say Amazon or Gamestop ( both of whom would have updated his address with no problem ) but from EA itself. If they can accept money for pre-orders and have access to their "super-secret" processor, then they should have been able to adjust his address as well.

  • SuorySuory Member Posts: 90

I dont know. I have been using Amazon now for years for games and pre-orders, and I have zero trouble with them. I always get my codes has soon has the order goes through and had great ship times on the items. I would be scared of using an online service for stuff like this, but you have to be careful of who you use.

Aye, I know he ordered it from EA...I would stll constitute that as Online preordering. Like I said, Im not giving EA an excuse because lord knows I would be the first one to point out EA's faults (I cant stand them) but i would just stay away from preordering anywhere that requires you to log on the internet to do.

Heh, I'd go further and say stay away from pre-ordering period. Not one game yet that I can honestly say was worth a pre-order ( I don't need mounts or fancy capes lol ).

Even money says if the guy had just called EA instead of emailing them over and over he would have been fine.

Mark Jacobs is helping this person fix his issue btw so I wouldn't worry much about it.

  • BaltusBaltus Member Posts: 34

That is a problem with the EA store, other stores have a better system, I preordered from EB games and like him, I moved, it was almost painless to update my information.

I bought a book from amazon after moving into my new house.

I used the quick purchase and totally forgot it had my old address on it.

Amazon wouldn't let me change the shipping address - even tho the order had not shipped yet. I did eventually get it straightened out but it was definitely more trouble than it was worth. (took 2 phone calls to get it straightened out)

Unless of course you live in Europe and GOA doesn't give you open beta access unless you buy it:

    1) From EAstore

    2) From Direct2Drive

Also, many retailers here (like play.com) often have their own preorder bonuses (like they did with Age of Conan) to get people to order from them :).

I pre-order online most of the time and haven't seen any failures to deliver on my side of the shore. To each his own they say.

Damn, that's just total incompetence on EA's CS end (not to be confused with WAR's Dev team who have nothing to do with the CS).  Hopefully that person will get things sorted out, they should be bending over backwards to help someone as loyal as that person was by ordering directly from them and ordering that far ahead of time.

Personally i never recommend pre ordering from a brick and mortor store if you want to be gaurenteed to get the pre order offer.  Alot of gamestop stores have fubar'd their customers, it took forever for Best buy stores to even have the pre orders for the CE since there was a shipping mistake and they all got sent to 1 or 2 stores in the whole country, Walmart didn't take pre orders until forever and they don't gaurentee you'll actually get a copy,  Target is the same not to mention they charge you an additional dollar for the pre order code when no one else did this.

I got my pre order from Amazon, if there's an internet seller out there that has never failed me its been Amazon and Gamestop.com....anyone order from EA Store is ... well they should expect some bizarre issue.

I love pre ordering on the internet I always get everything on time..but then I know which stores to go to and which stores to avoid.

all stores that have quick purchase workt his way including NewEgg its why I never use it.  It doesn't speed anything up if its a pre order item.

  • chrislekochrisleko Member Posts: 200

Even if it's not BS, if you read the e-mail responses by the consumer, he escalates very quickly.  Really, who gets an attitude with a business like that and expects to be treated fairly.  You don't have to let them screw you, but it's really uncooth and rude to swear at a person who is just doing their job (no matter how annoying it is).  If their system can't update your address, what do you want Joe Schmo low level support guy to do about it?  He can't rewrite the entire bloody software because you didn't have the foresight to know you would be moving when you ordered a game 8 months in advance (who does that anyway).  Really, being an asshat to a big company is the easiest way to get banned / refused from their service.

People, too quickly, treat employees of this big companies like garbage.  Yes it is a big company, but it's still made up from people, who are just doing their bloody job.  Yes, if someone is being rude to someone, s/he shouldn't have to put up with it, but this guy went off the deep end way too quickly.

Exactly, that is why I preordered mine from www.I-knew-I-might-be-moving-so-I-called-EA-to-make-sure-that-I-could-change-my-address-and-when-I-found-out-I-could-not-I-went-with-a-different-retailer-that-would.com

I deal with customers on the phone and in some cases email on a daily basis. If I was on the other end of this thing I would have simply stopped emailing him after he started acting like a tool. Or had it been phone I simply would have hung up on him. Granted I dont work for a company like EA though, I dont have to deal with jackasses if I dont wanna.

Other than that, EA has some serious issues if they cant change shipping adresses lol.
