Amazingly very immature community, after 7 days of playing.

AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

So ive been on the free trial on the oceanic server, everything was very peaceful and quiet there was a major lack of grouping and etc, and for once I played ealier and all of a sudden I was playing wow all over again, omg after seeing such a friendly community it was horrible.

Someone asked for advice in the global ooc channel so I did and I said dont listen to the others it does not have to be another cookie cutter game and I got attacked by mulitple people, i was extremely polite while somehow they claimed I was throwing insults when they where obviously cursing at me and accusing me before anyone ever read the whole thing.

Then they started saying how I will never find a group because I disrespected very respected people in the community and yada yada  yada. So I basicly said I fail to see how you all are respected in the community and said ok im leaving bye.

Now I quit wow mostly due to the community, and please dont tell me about that junk about finding the right guild im sorry but it does not always work. I am a very unique person and guilds dont always like to group like I do, therefor I also depend on pugs.

Anyways I sat that there in bree while this kid was spamming laughing at me about how I got pawned in chat and this is maybe 10 minuites later, and I said your boring me. And he saids well I didnt start drama lamer or something like that.

Then while I was waiting in bree and saw nothing but saw almost the exact same immature chat in world of warcraft community, where do these people come from? And believe me this was going on even the global looking for fellowship chat and normal ooc for a long time it probably still is now.

Anyways I just want to know what is wrong with this server? While there are many of you who are mature and friendly I cannot see myself playing this game and running into these kinds of people all the time, city of heroes has a far better community then wow and lotro in my experience.

From what I saw LOTRO & WoW had the same players in them. The games are also identical on concept so that's not really a surprise. If you want to see a fairly mature community try Eve Online. The help/rookie chat channels are actually full of helpful people rather than lamers who try to start drama like in WoW/LOTRO. Join the militia or a large alliance after that and you'll be amung the most mature and group-oriented people of any online game.

  • Rebn77Rebn77 Member Posts: 321

I had the same experiences ....

On the Liberty server of City of Heroes.

Sadly, you have people like that in EVERY MMO. On a plus side you have far less in LotRO, at least on the US servers.

    *Edit*

I've been playing LotRO since closed beta, I can't speak for the Oceanic servers, but on Silverlode I haven't seen anything like this since open beta when we were flooded with a lot of people just there for some free play. To compare the community in LotRO to the community in WoW is unfair to LotRO.  I honestly found the community in EvE to be just as bad as CoH. I guess it's all a matter of opinion, as well as luck.

It sounds like you opened the door in my opinion. I'm sure you are going to tell me how polite you were, but look at how others might have read your words and maybe you offended them?

It could also be the server or timezone, who knows.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

No it is not unfair, when you see almost the exact same things in both mmorpgs I think its quite safe and fair to say the communitys are similar, I play on virtue which is a rp server much more mature people in city of heroes, liberty is a pvp server if I remember correctly.

Now I did state there are alot of mature people there to just not enough.

  • EmeraqEmeraq Member UncommonPosts: 1,064

As another poster said you will find those same kind of  people in just about every MMO.  However, I also agree that you might just be playing on a bad server. Give Landroval a try. I've played that one since beta, it's supposedly the unofficial RP server and I've had no problems with the community as a whole, but you will always have a few bad apples in every bucket.

  • MrchompyMrchompy Member Posts: 58

Possibly it was the server you were on. On Landroval (NA server), a huge majority of the population seem to be decent folks. I'm sure there are tool boxes on the server, but they are few and far between.

I'm on Brandywine and It's been the best MMO community I've met so far.

  • Rebn77Rebn77 Member Posts: 321

Following your train of thought I guess I'd have to say that:

Ultima Online, Asheron's Call 1&2, DAoC, Everquest 1 & 2, Lineage 1 & 2, Guild Wars, Star Wars: G, City of H/V, D&D Online, Eve, Ryzom, Hellgate: London, Sword of the New World, Requiem, Perfect World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, and Age of Conan Must have been full of WoW players. I've seen this behaviour in all of these games. Mind you I've been playing graphical MMOs since 1997. This is nothing new, and it is not confined too or from any one MMO.

Every game has it's share of asshats.  However, I think you had some bad luck.  I haven't seen anything like that in LoTRO since the open beta a year ago, personally.  As soon as you had to start paying, most of the asshats left, at least on my server.

Of course Oceanic means mainly Australia.  Maybe those guys are all crazy

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Hmm, I don't want to sound very harsh, but it sounds like your the problem, not the community.

First: You replied in general chat saying "dont listen to others it does not have to be a cookie cutter game".  How would somebody who just gave advice not be mad at this statement?  In reality, the best spec is the best spec, the best item is the best item, the best route is the best route.  I do not know the context of your conversation in general chat, but I think it may have been similar to "what is the best _____?"

Also, generalizing a community is not the correct thing to do.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Of course there are bad people/pugs in every game never did I say this once but for a more mature game like lotro you should not see that much of it and believe me in eq1 and coh ive never seen wow like communitys, eq1 did get worse later on but this is my experience therefor it is new.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

So let me get this straight, your claiming there is a best spec in every mmorpg you know of? First of all not even in wow was there a best spec, there are better specs for what your playstyle is and thats it, the guy was asking about stats anyways and there is a dps form for a minstrel and by the way many did agree with me who play the game that are high leveled anyways.

That kind of attitude right there is what ruins most mmorpgs, go play city of heroes and tell them there is a best spec I garuntee you will be proven wrong. I am far from the problem, I was letting him know he could easily go with his playstyle. Best spec is just a mentality that people created in a mmorpg and believe to be true.

  • CartographyCartography Member UncommonPosts: 331

The community is nothing special, you can make good friends or get annoyed by the immaturity... it's up to you. It's impossible to find a game without it. LoTRO is a very cliquey game, which makes it seem more pretentious than immature imo.

Well what i see has happened here is that this said person was asking what ppl thought was the best specs for his said class right? and then you replied by telling him to not listen to the others right? well i can see why they would get cranky but probably should have not been to the level you are saying.

So this is what i think happened,

Player ask for help on a certain spec to obviously Vets of the game and you turn around after being on a trial telling him to not listen to them when they replied, they get cranky (not that they know your on a trial) for they are being helpful and you are there telling them to more or less keep there opinions to them selves, i know you did not say this but you may as well have. The thing is the guy asked for help on specs so he wanted to listen to them so i am unsure as to why you felt the need as a trial member to tell him not to listen to them? Please don't think i am having a go at you but seriously he wanted help, he obviously got it and you told him to ignore it why would they not be pissed off i agree that it could of been handled better but even as you say there is not a best spec you will still get arguments in any game including CoH e.t.c  of what certain ppl think is the best spec for that certain class and i know it comes down to play-style but some ppl don't have a play-style, some ppl just play the game as a game and don't take it too seriously

Play-style are a thing you develop not something that just happens naturally well not a good one anyways and i know this as i have learnt from a lot of Vets throughout many a MMO on the market. I

Really, you never saw this kind of behavior in EQ1?  Now keep in mind this is the game that had to make an official "play nice policy" that players would invoke on each other so the players could summons GM to FORCE people to stop being assholes to each other.  Perhaps check out the fires of heaven website for their awesome community habits or maybe old school eqvault for the flamewares there.

When I first read your original post I got the impression that you were just as much of the problem as you blame others for and the more I read the more the idea rings true.  That isn't meant to be a slam, just a observation.  You really ignited the situation in LOTRO, yet you have no problem blaming the entire gaming population there of being immature.  The buck stops at you in this case, sorry.

As rebn77 said, these people are in every game you play.  I've also been playing since UO and echos what he says to the letter.  Furthermore, some people/games are worse than others and some people do it without even knowing they are part of the problem.  Almost all of them blame everyone else.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

In eq1 you had to cooperate in groups to get good exp, therefor it attracted a much better community but after pok expansion people got worse this is was my server experience, I didnt experience other servers so it may have been differant for others.

Now he asked if it was ok he could put more stats for damage and someone said no your a healer even though minstrels have a dps stance, im sorry but even a free trial player knows this is wrong if they know about minstrels. Read the whole post before you judge, never once did I blame it on the community as a whole get your facts straight, if anything people should not take that much offense to what I said. In no way was it rude and if your going to take it that seriously you have no reason to play with others in the first place.

It seems to me you are just defending the game which is understandable but it does not make you right about what happened in chat, and it does not justify the trash talk I witnessed in the majority of the game in the first place.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

27 year olds dont make friends with people who act like there 4 that is just silly. Example, I make an ironic joke and the immature crowd makes chuck norris jokes, I dont see friendships happening there bud.

  • vala2008vala2008 Member Posts: 229

it basically the mmo communtiy now. I quite AoC for the same reasons as the community there was just telling everyone to get lost, noob go back to wow.

My adivce is to find a nice mature guild and turn off the server channels just chat with guildies.

Correct. But do understand, using Advice or OCC to trash other games is frowned upon, you did bring it on yourself.

I'll be honest with you, people probably mistook you for being a whiner...

If you can't find guilds because of your "unique" personality when it comes to conflicting with their groups then maybe you should think that the problem may be on your end.

Don't get me wrong, 90% of the people in games like that are immature morons and I'm not saying you're wrong at all here.  I'm just saying that maybe you should learn to adapt to different playstyles instead of just saying "no, you people are idiots I'm leaving" and giving up.  Guilds can be a lot of fun but there is no perfect community.  You'll always have immaturity and stupidity wherever you go.  You just need to group up with the 10% of people that you can stand even if that means changing a little bit about how you play your character.

If you want to play your character the way you want without anyone having any say in it then Guilds and Groups are definitely not for you.  People like that do more harm than good anyway.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Who are you talking to? And I never trashed the game, geesh you all dont read the whole post. I said it is a great mmorpg but it lacks community ive seen in other games and even some current ones.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

Thats just the thing, I hardly have issues in games like city of heroes but the game lacks vareity in content for me to play more then a month. I just need to find the right game, besides ive lost interest in questing in lotro the animal quests feel way to much like wows no offense to anyone who enjoy them, but its just to famaliar.

I do understand what your saying though but I watched these people chat later on and they got into another argument with someone else and they where having many immature discussions other then insulting someone. I do appreciate you not judging me though.

I realy don't know what its like on other Servers but the player attitude on LOTRO Eldar (EU) is nothing like the 4 WOW servers I have tried. WOW would have suited me more if I was 15 years younger, its more alive but often has childish attitude as everyone playing fights and pushing everyone out the way so they can level as quick as possible to raid and get better gear than everyone else!

I feel sad that the OP has had a bad experience and have rarely seen any comments relating to childish LOTRO community.

Also identical games??? I put that down to a lack of you not playing both/one to end game and seeing whats to offer. Concept, well, there both MMORPGs if thats what you mean, you quest, level, buy, sell and chat - apart from that they are so far different its undescribable

The only game where I could say "this is a good community" was in The Saga of Ryzom. Other than that, the rest of MMOs I played are full of drama queens. When I played AoC, the first thing I did was to disable the OOC channel and help channel. I had a friend that helped me when I got stuck so I didnt need to ask on the chat.

And about guilds, dont even get me started. I wish I could put all members of a guild in ignore.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437

I know right? Amazingly its very difficult to find a good guild these days, I use to help run guilds in eq1 stress free and alot of people for the most part cooperated, but now days oh hek no they just wont except in certain games like city of heroes, maybe final fantasy online but ive never played it yet.

I did try ryzom but its just more kill animal except alien animal type of game and the world did not appeal to me very well.
