So yea, I've finished most of the stuff posibble in WoW, tried AoC(which failed miserably) and now I'm gonna try WAR. If this fails, I'm coming back to L2, since was a great game back when I played it.
I have a few questions:
How's the economy now, with all these farmers roaming around?
What's a good server to start(Without bots, retarded cheaters)?
How's the PvP balance now and how hard it is to do the last levels and get the high-end armor sets(compared to the S grade)?
Thanks in advance.

After the first week of playing Lineage II, I did not like it. I did not find anyone around I only saw NPC walking around. If you like this kind of game, go play WoW.
its the starting area, you dont see many people there now. I remember when talking island and elven village had pkers and people flagging newbies on the way out of town..... i miss those days.
Playing: EVE Online
Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online
Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2

Whatever Thorak. Common items are useless to any and all real players. Can't be Enchanted or Augmented, No SA, and No Set Bonus = useless gear. You are better off using a set bonus and SA that is one grade below you than using those Common items - they are that horrible.
To give the OP a good comparison: Common Items in Lineage II are like items in World of Warcraft with no stats or bonuses except Armor Factor/AC on the Armor, Magic Resistance on the Jewelry, and Damage Rating on the weapon. If WoW had Common Items and the base item was a Staff with +10 Critical, +5 Spell Hit Rating, and +50 Spell Damage (Fire)... The common item would have nothing but Dmg and Delay on it, no bonuses. Picture this, and ask youself if you would see anyone XPing in WoW, getting invites to groups, or PvPing in Open or BGs if their inventory had a few of those in it... No, they'd be laughed at, alot...
Bots are horrible... In the words of a GM:
So, they close 1000+ accounts every day, but because so many people cheat, you hardly notice that they are doing anything to remedy the problem. Sounds like a rabid botter game to me. I've played it for over 2 years, and have done nothing but zerg the support site with petitions about it.
Bots in L2 are not like every other MMO. Other MMOs have more instanced content which allow you to avoid bots in open areas. In L2, you are forced to compete with them and because the general attitude of the players is so poor, you cannot PK them and go over 6 without fear of getting killed and dropping you items. Indirectly, the general player population work to help bots keep going, but mostly because so many people do it and they don't like you PKing them (it could be their bot tomorrow, lol).
The Euro Servers are not struggling as much with population because there are less of them. Also, when you remove all of the bots off of Teon, Franz, and Luna, you are left with a population on those servers that are on par with the higher-population US servers. Maybe Teon has a bit more, but I'd guess that it would be on par with Bartz server.
Leveling is about as hard as it always was, unless you only play 2 hours a day (like my roomate). If you have pathetically low playtimes you will have Vitality 3-4 almost all the time and leveling will be fast with the amount of time you have to play (250-300% faster than normal). If you have playtimes like I had (8-10+ hours a day) than the Vitality is nothing more than small XP bonus every day - and hardly much of a factor (I don't even worry about it when I play). Keeping it up when you have high playtimes wastes more XP than you can get just going without it... A bot will still outlevel someone who has low playtimes and always alot of Vitality...
L2 PvP is not group based, it's large scale clan-based.
Group PvP as well as 1v1 PvP is not balanced due to the class design gear+buff dependency of almost every class. It is in Large Scale PvP where you can actually have actual fun PvPing. Anything less is frustrating unless you are the overgeared person rolling blue-cons.
If you can't/don't have a buffbot then don't bother... Lineage II is similar to DAoC in that Buffs are extremely powerful and can turn even a gimp class to something almost unkillable that kills extremely well in PvP. It also cuts the PvE time by ALOT (you can level twice as fast with buffbots than without, for example).
Some people will scream about how you get newbie buffs to level 62, but up until then the grind isn't even a grind. You can gain 2+ levels a day in most of those level up until mid-50s with buffs if your gear isn't excessively terrible. I remember on my SPS sub with an SE buffbot I did 40-62 in like 4 days... 63-76 will take monumentally longer, and if you have no buffbot you will have to beg for buffs or join a guild with a good clan hall
lol ubah seems to be a negative nancy about L2.
My experience has been great since I came back after a 2 year break. I left due to f'd up lvl'n speed, horrid economy, and the bots. I came back with gracia and I'm impressed.
Common gear works fine up till D or C, and even further if you are just there to play a game and have fun. If you have the e-peen complex then I guess you might sound like ubah (not saying you have it, ubah, you just sound like you do). Hell some of the 78+ ppl in my clan say common up to b-grade is ok ( and yes they pvp and do seiges - and win, so there)
Overall the game has went from a 6-7/10 to a 9.5/10 for me. And I used to be VERY critical of it (especially the grind and the bots - and both problems have not struck me yet)
*possibly my experience is different than most since I am in a helpful clan, that has a good clan hall. but once again, I have always stated that my posts were from my own perspective and not "facts". But really so is everyone elses. I might be in a better timezone, or might choose the better lvl'n spots, who knows. But to me the game has gotten exponentially better.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Come to Valley of Saints, Hot Springs, Varka Silenos Outpost, Ketra Orc Outpost, Wall of Argos, Shrine of the Loyal, Forsaken Plains,Tower of Insolence, Isle of Prayer, and a plethora of other places and tell me what you see.
Maybe it's just cause you aren't above B Grade yet, and you are playing a class that cannot hunt efficiently in those areas.
I heard there were bot groups running through Hellbound the minute servers came up since NCSoft unlocked it to 78+ characters...
There is no reason for farmers to be in No Grade, D Grade, and C Grade areas. There isn't much profit to be made from those items anymore.
The way L2 zones and drop tables are structured, you usually get D Grade drops in low C Grade areas (like Elven Mithril items dropping in IT Crator), and Low-Mid B Grade Areas in some A Grade areas (like Zubei and Avadon Parts from Valley of Saints in the front).
That means that farmers will be getting useless items and mats to drop in almost all areas up to zones where players that are level 65 or higher hunt (when B Grade items above Zubei began to drop, since ALL C Grade and D Grade items are now on Merchants there is no reason to farm for them - just sell adena to the people who want them ASAP when they get to that grade). The farmers get to save money by not having to have so many accounts to farm, or they can level the toons up and make their high[er] level farming more efficient.
Bots still exist at the low levels, but much less is needed and they are mainly used primarily to farm materials that drop more often at those levels.
By the time a character gets to an area where something they can use in that grade drops, they are usually already equipped in a full set of it - and it's not common. For example, I got my first full drop that was above Composite Boots in Hot Springs not too long ago, a Dark Crystal Boot. I was 75 and 65% or so, less than a week from S Grade...
Yes, you can always sell it, like I did - but the chances that it's something you can use are slim to none. And getting full value for an item is hard to do. Most players will look at something like L2WH which more often than not has an average price listed that is 1M or more less than what the price on you server is, and they will insist that you sell it for that because that is "what it's worth".
You need to learn how the market works, and those game mechanics, and then you will understand the somewhat odd disappearance of bots in several low level areas that used to be full of them. L2 market is like the Stock Market for farmers, and they are no longer trading those stocks...
I was on the same boat as you, came back after 2 years everything seemed shiny again, bots gone etc... then i got to lvl 72, jesus christ there are so many bots and only 2-3 areas where you can level, and these people just simply leave their bot there for weeks on end, I remember leveling in WoA and this guy logging in and putting his bot train in my spot ksing me, and there is nothing I could do, no matter how hard i tried. Anyway, this game had alot of potential ruined by bots and ebaying, well back to WAR >D
Why the hell would I go back play WoW when i just finished all the content? I liked this game and I asked how is it these days. I didn't ask what should I play.
Also, thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna give it a try these days.

Not to mention thenarius, Optima is way off. Lineage 2 is NO comparison to wow. Nothing alike, lol. If you like L2 and think it's really low, get into a new genre. Nothing is similar in my eyes. L2 is fun.

Ye, compared to other MMORPGs where you get eventually bored I always got something to do in this game other than grinding.
The only thing that really annoyed me was how buffs improved dramatically any class. Other than that, It's a great game.

Exactly.
That is why there are so many people that play it yet complain heavily about it.
There is no where else to go if you like this game, and nothing else like it to play.
walkers still ruled the game
