Maybe I should have researched it more or something but... I have been waiting for open beta for ages.. I went to the WAR site and saw this...
"Players can get into the WAR open beta by pre-ordering Warhammer Online from select retail partners. Participants of the closed beta will automatically be granted open beta access."
So.. you have to pre-order or have been in closed beta to get into open beta? thats not really an "open beta" imo...
At what point are they going to give everyone a shot at trying it if ever? Id like to give this game a go before I run out an buy/pre-order it and would be pretty awesome if I found some bugs no one has found yet.
Call me crazy but this seems like "closed beta v2" rather than a open beta lol

Ok crazy.
By the way, did you not notice the 15 other threads about this subject you could have posted in instead?

Beta testing is for finding bugs, not for trying the game out to see if you like it. The "open" in open beta means that there is no NDA or other restriction in place, not that it's free to anyone who wants in.

Sorry but thats a big fat load of BS. They arent looking for bugs this close to release. It was nothing more than a ploy to get the most preorders possible. The OP is right about it being nothing more than paid beta. If they wanted to be honest about this game being their best effort then they wouldnt have a problem letting the general populace test it out for a week. Any game worth its salt shouldnt be afraid to let people have a taste before shelling out 50 bucks for something they may hate.
I guess you could say im spoiled by my PS3 but it really does make a huge difference to me whether or not a game company puts out a demo or trial. Its the difference between me buying a product or not.

No shit sherlock. It wasnt really about getting to try it out. Id love to run around and find some bugs an stuff.
Its just this isnt really an open beta and the NDA was lifted a long time ago.

you're correct, except for the part where you said that it isn't an open beta that starts tomorrow
I didn't pre-order WAR , or ever really have an interest in it. Yet I'm still going to be apart of the OB, Do a little more research before jumping to conclussions.

I'm sorry. Have you been hiding under a rock for the last 2 months? Anyone who has been following WAR in any way, shape, or form has been beaten over the head time and time again with the knowledge that open beta access can only be had in three ways:
1. Preorder from an authorized retailer.
2. Receive a open beta access by having participated in the closed beta.
3. Sign up at FilePlanet. (I don't have details on this, so don't ask.)
And it's not too late to preorder, believe it or not. Go to your local Target or Best Buy store and pick up a preorder box.

Ummmmm yes they are. They are looking for game breaking bugs. Yeah they may not be looking for minor things, but they are always looking for bugs before release. This is adding more players to the servers, putting stress on them. This is like final revision time. From what I understand they made a lot of updates the preview weekend and now, so they are now making the final push. Making sure the things they changed didn't mess other things up.
About 12 hours in they already had a hotfix patch to fix certain public quests and some other things, also nearly every hour or so you get prompted to take a survey and list any bugs that you've found.
Yes I wish the game was live, just not in its current state. As quick as they are posting patches to fix bugs the game should be running semi-flawless at launch. Glad I can help them out, and preview the game in the process.
It's simple. This game is so highly anticipated that it doesn't need freeloaders to come and help 'test' the game. There are enough folk willing to put their money where their mouths are, to more than satisfy pre-release duties.
Try 'Hello Kitty Online', maybe they have a spot for you .
I don't understand, according to Starman999, "they aren't looking for bugs this close to release". My mind has been blown by your scandalous accusations, nobrains8503.
Are you guys joking or what?

They still have the debugging code running, they still have surveys popping up, you can actually put in bug/feedback reports in game right now. Of course they are still looking for bugs and CTD errors etc.
Anyway you can always just preorder the game online and then cancel the day before it ships if you don't like it. I don't know if it is too late to do that now but pretty much anyone who wanted to could have been a part of open beta if they researched it at all.
i think they are always looking for bugs, but to be honest i think that the purpose of open beta is to stress test their equipment more than anything. you know see how the server run at high load and decide how many starting servers to go with...stuff like that.
I've never seen an open beta for a P2P game that was just open to anyone. All of them I've been in you had to go through some means to obtain one of a limited number of keys. When they say open it usually means there's nothing stopping people from talking about it (i.e. NDA).
Hmm i always took open betas as a huge stress test/preview of the game. But i guess with asia pumping out crappy f2p games every other day, i really cant remember a p2p game having an open beta like the cookie cutter f2p games do.
