The ultimate MMO: Driving

Driving is the ultimate MMO out there. You spend 20-40 minutes two times a day (sometimes less, sometimes more) staying between the lines on the road, going when the lights tell you to and stopping when the lights tell you to. It's a very simple treadmill much like the other MMOs you're used to! Griefers are rare, but often they're more bark than bite because penalties can get very stiff. You still have to watch out for noobs, as some of them are not as good at doing their tasks.

In Driving, you can choose between many 'races', from Ford to Toyota to Chevrolet and more!

PvP still exists in Driving, called Racing. However, there are groups that will try and stop you, the Police. If they catch you participating in this PvP on public roads, there are some penalties!

The death penalty in Driving is harsh. When you wreck your car, you have to pay to have it fixed or replaced. Worse, it's possible to become injured or even die permanently depending on circumstances. While staying between the lines might sound boring, the thrill and comes from knowing that if you mess up, the death penalty is severe.

Don't get Driving confused with Real Life, however. Driving is much more structured compared to the sandbox structure of Real Life, is PvE based, has less severe death penalties, and in Driving, everyone can win!

(( I think this post properly rebutes the far too often cry of wanting harsher dealth penalties to make a boring game more interesting. :) ))

You left out classes: compacts, sedans, luxury cars, sports cars, SUVs, big rigs, etc. So not only can you select from different races, you can select from different classes within those races. However, some races are more limited than others.

Initial character customization is fairly limited. Most are simple color changes with a few stock accessories. Later in game though, you can buy a personalized look and additional abilities/buffs.

The less you expect, the more you'll be surprised. Hopefully, pleasantly so.

I'll have to think of this next time I'm caught in rush hour, like I do whenever I get board with a game: "Common man, you're supposed to be having fun, this is a game after all!"

    Oh and Grand Prix GTP

I guess I fail at satire, then? The point didn't seem to get across properly.

Since we're on the subject, there was a driving MMO a long time ago that was based on building and driving classic muscle cars.  Motor City Online may have been the title.  Never got to play it myself, and I never hear about it, so I'm not sure what happened with it.

    Playing: Nothing
Played: Champions Online, CoX, STO, PSO, WoW, lots of free-to-play crap
Looking Forward To: DC Universe Online, Blade and Soul

Motor City Online yes, a fantastic game. Cars were so beautiful, and it was lots of fun. But it seems hackers exploited it and people left.

It wasn't only muscle cars, they had different classes, small, muscle, cats... all VERY well done. God I love classic cars.. that game was a dream. Really miss it. And the sounds...

I don't enjoy this MMO.  Particularly when you have a high level char, many friends and family members flock to mooch off of you for XP.  You end up having to babysit them all day, taking them questing and generally wasting your time.
