I like WAR, it's a good game but i can't see me playing past the 30 days because...
The world. It's just tiny and not very exciting in my opinion. Even the Order capital is a ghost town. I don't like how you have 1 zone for each race leveling 1-10 10-20 etc. 1 way in, 1 way out for example. I prefer a big open dynamic world with lots of places to see and go. I love big open spaces, green fields and blue skys.
Wow's world is proberly the best ever created in a game, and i think thats what will draw me back. Another notable mention is the world in LOTRO, that's also very good.

Big worlds mean long travel times, and that isn't acceptable for the instant gratification crowd. I do agree with you though, WoW has a pretty nice world. I would like it better if there weren't so many restrictions on where you can go in Azeroth, along with the absolutely horrible blending of zones. Actually, there is no blending, it will just instantly jump from rainforest to desert without any in between.
I like the physics in WoW's world also.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Maybe you should look at a detailed Warhammer lore map and you'd see why your big open dynamic world wouldn't fit WAR ... you'd spend most of it walking through empty lands since not all the racial pairings & regions in the warhammer world are implimented...this how ever does not mean it'll be a big dynamic world when they DO bring those areas in.
Honestly why bitch about this now? EVeryone's known about the warhammer set up for 2 years.
I KNOW this is too soon. As the hype explodes the next few days and I only wanted to post it in the general discussions, but since you OP started it::
I'll post it anyway, because in a month everybody will have about the same conclusions.
(and I think some fans will acknowledge it even now).
As for WAR: it's a one song CD artist.
The song is written in C-minor and consists of 1 choir: War.
As good as a song in C-minor may be felt in the beginning, it is but one - rather short - song.
And just like every one song artist, it will make the charts for 2 months top, but the album isn't there.
Most people will have the one song CD in their collection but after a few weeks it will hardly be played by most.
And certainly not if you have to pay each time you put the record on.
Obviously OP has not seen the travel mounts to get to other zones. Another thing I noticed and so far I've only been to tier 2 zone is that the zones world gets larger the farther into the tiers you go
your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't
I thought war was pretty big actually, its not seemless like wow, but you can go to the there races starting zones as well to adventure and level up if you want. You just have to find the flightmaster.
That's graphic, or rather, auditive.
You might be right, or you might be wrong. I'm a big fan of openness and diversity myself as well. But somehow I have a feeling that folks at Mythic will know, listen and understand what needs to be added to the game and will try to make it right if it's like you say; just a one trick pony.
That is perhaps my wishful thinking but so far they have been saying allot of things that ring true and gave me the impression that they are right on top in knowing what makes or breaks a long lasting, enjoyable mmo.
My brand new bloggity blog.
Is it just me or did Warhammer change a lot from beta? I had not played beta for two or three months and I decieded to preorder the game. The graphics seem a lot better. A number of the abilities have been changed or removed from the game. Tool tips have been added to help you out.
Anyway I do like WoWs world. Especially being able to swim underwater. That is one thing I miss in Warhammer. Other then that it's not so bad though. There is a decent amount to explore and a lot to do.
So because you can't bring yourself to walk around you think the world is small? Have you even went to the T2/T3 zones? I explored around wandering down the roads and the world is large. More so that WoW at release for sure.
Who cares about the city, it's not undersiege so unless you're there to buy a new dress get out there and kill your enemies.
Blue skys? Pft, maybe you are best suited for WoW because War isn't about fluffy bunnies and blue skys and rainbows.

WoW, this was unexpected from you Celestian, got you marked as someone who's opinion is usually valid (not something you see often in these forums), the last 2 sentences made very little sense in a fanboish kinda way.
the only BIG problem for war is economy => inflation
rest are just minor problems . . . .
BestSigEver :P

What he is trying to say is you will not find anyone named "Harris Pilton" or who ever it is in the game that sells bags. There is very very little humor in Warhammer. It has been like that since conception. But to each his own.
FYI this is not a hate WoW posting.....
I haven't done the "run the length of the zone and time it" routine, but each map feels about the size of a WoW zone when you are playing. Not including the capitals, scenarios and any other special zones, there are a total of 27 zones.
The world is bigger than most seem to realize.

Aye, let me clarify this a bit.
Humor is in WAR.
Just as there are things which are funny about every-day life.
Although they may not be straight out jokes, it may be something as simple as tripping,
or some guy accidentally exploding himself.
Something which fits into the world,
and is not some outlandish influence
have to agree with the OP, the world is very bound to the road systems and obstacles. The whole time I tried to explore I felt like I was on a theme park ride stuck on a rail with stuff to look at on either side of me. So I thought it was very detailed at least, but it didn't leave me the impression that I was actually in a world.
Daoc was very much the same way at release, you'd see this huge map, would walk for 5 minutes and notice it's not so large, you had already gone a third of the map distance.
An open world with open borders and multiple ways in and out is not desirable in an RvR environment. Choke points between areas gives incentive for factions to control the choke point and in turn rewards the faction in control.
Wide open zone borders would be very bad for RvR. If that were the case, we would see a lot of posts from people saying they weren't finding enough RvR action.
If exploring is your gig then LoTRO is a good game and the only major MMO that truly encourages and rewards exploring. WAR is for people who want to focus on RvR and they have to compromise the single-player/PvE experience as the tradeoff. Just like WoW compromises RvR in favor of what it does best.
The most difficult part about enjoying a new MMO is learning to adjust your expectations. There is no right or wrong - only what makes you happy.
For me WAR's biggest problem is that the beginning Tier 1 areas are so crazy fun that it pains me that my rank 10 Swordmaster is going to level out of them very soon.
I find myself trying to find ways not to gain xp just so I can enjoy the game as slow as possible because it really is a treat all the way.
Even if all the rest of the game from T2 onwards is crap I can see myself paying monthly sub just to make alts and do T1 RvR again and again.
Tiny?
Do you have any idea what you are talking about?
Run from Tier 1 to Tier 4 across each zone for each race.
It will take you like 5 hours to do.
If you want big dynamic content, there is EVE and VG =D, maby you meet someone maby not
You need the roads to make ppl kill each others, its very well designed. First thought was the same as OP, but then i remeber Vanguard, running for hours and hours, ALONE. In RVR game that will never ever work.
Blizzard tried to get some outdoor pvp in EP, but hey, how good was that, a very big area, i diddnt see anyone on those spots . Total failure, thats why only BG's and arena works, 2 ways in and out, small areas. O wouldnt say WAR areas are small tho, they are ok, for the amount of players that will be on each server.
War is a mmo action game, and action u get, tons of it. So the big content stuff, witch i like to in a mmo, when i play PvE. For pvp/rvr i play war. what Mythic told us we got. WoW on steroids =D
Same as in all mmos then , oh i forgot EvE, the only mmo that actually have a economy that works
For being instanced, it's pretty open, and I like the look of the world.
Atleast it's not like AoC, where I felt like I had to follow a road everywhere.
Groovy.
WoW's world wasn't even properly utilized except in the expansion. You don't really even go out there and use it. In WAR, you use every last corner of the map. WAR > WoW design as far as maps go.
I'm not really sure what the OP is getting at to be honest. Sinse when could you explore in WoW. The two systems are set up more or less the same, there are places where you can go and places where you cant. As for the cities being empty, the game hasent even launched yet, did you expet the entire world to fill out straight away? WoW was the same, until people leveled there were places that were empty. The Cities are there to be visited but until people level and find a flight master its going to be empty, also there is nothing really worth while selling yet anyway so no reason to vist the AH.
You need to give it time, I really would have liked to see todays gamers playing EQ1 or UO, then they would know just how spoilt they really are with the new MMO's comming out now.
If you think wow's world is the best, then you've missed a lot of mmos. Don't get me wrong, it's polished and well done, but very tiny.
Let the math people do some work, but I think you can fit the complete first 6 "playable" zones of WAR into 1 "Elwynn Forest" zone.
I reckon the first 2 zones in Tier 1 of the Dwarves are only 30% playable (and that's VERY generous). The rest is 2D "dressing". You walk from "tunnel" to "tunnel" and can't cross many open terrain, being lead by "tunnel vision".
Saying that you can use "the very last corner" of the map is rather odd in this case.
To name just ONE other example: the dwarf/greenskins "Battleground" sorry "scenario" plays out on what is supposed to be about 10 to 15 % of a WSG BG.
The "complete" BG plays out on the same surface of one homebase of WSG. Meaning you run 30 meters and you're in the building and the 3 flags are ... 20 meters apart from each other. If you play that BG for 5 times in a row you end up in the nut house.
The empire/Chaos scenario is also very small btw. You run from your base to the last enemy base flag in 25 seconds in a straight line. And DO not forget: you don't have a horsie. Speed is on foot !
Now I don't like the CC-less PVP of WAR, but at least I give it a try ))
