Playing a bright wizard at the moment and i want to change....hate dieing instantly So i was wondering which range dps can survive in battle longest if he gets jumped by a melee
No class in WAR will work for you unless you learn to play it well.
Bright Wizards are THE most feared class in all of Order.
Played properly, they can pretty much kill anything that moves, except a Tank backed up by a Healer.
In RvR, the trick is to stay back and pick off the enemy Healers & Casters. If you do get tagged by a melee type, run and get one of your guys, or even an enemy between you and the fighter.
I am doing well with my R16 engineer so far in tier 2. If melee gets close to me I have a morale knockback that does a nice chunk of damage, or I have Barbed Wire which is an AOE root. I don't have much trouble getting away from melee, and surviving against ranged is just about playing the LOS/out of range game, same as any class.
Magus, at lower levels, they suck horribly. You will go bald and your blood pressure will rise. However!, the benefit is once you get higher, you can actually take damage very well. There are tactics and morales that allow you to absorb insane amounts of damage or even, absorb + reflect damage back to attackers ( yeah even bright wizards, which I have had kill themselves by nuking me).
Don't let people tell you they are worthless, these are the people who either a.) didn't get them past 20 or b.) jumped on them in beta at level 31 and had NO clue of their strengths vs weaknesses. If you want, hop on Red Eye Mountain and message me there if you are interested. I'm on late at nights.
30+ they are one of the hardest ranged to kill, especially if played well minus the bugs. At 40, with right gear and your improved shielding, it takes substantial time, even for a witch hunter to kill you.

The one who pays the most attention.
They all go down fast, its the one who sees the guy coming who survives while the guy who didnt provides fodder and time to escape.

Good Hunting
Engineers and Shadow Warriors take a decent beating.
Well, if all your really want to do is survive, then Warrior Priest is the ticket.
Just use your bitch-ass fire cage. I hate that spell.
first as everyone have said, learn to avoid mellees
Second when you learn to expect them coming then sure some classes are better to take advantage of that than other!
Shadow warrior are properly the one that can keep distance and do damage longest !
But don't forget some of the healers ! because they can stay up a while against a tanks , but not against a wellplayed MDPS!
Engineers having turret up is doing ok damage but is properly not making it, if a mellee gets to close
And a Bright Wizard just deserves to die ! WAAGH

You'll have more luck with Shadow Warrior. They have ways to engage in close combat.
