I was wondering if this would be a game suited for me. I am a mmorpg player who plays a couple hours a night. I have always been more of a PvE player and I never gave PvP a try. Of all the mmorpgs I have played, my favorite was Everquest. I loved the classes, races, zones, quests, and stories in the game. The game started to fall off a bit after Luclin but was still a great pleasure for me to play.
I tried WoW but I could never get into it. I'm not sure if it was the graphics, the gear, or the lack of storyline with the game but I never had that "hooked" feeling with EQ.
So, is this a game for my type of personal taste or go with another decent mmorpg? I have thought of going back to EQ or trying EQ2 or AoC since they have put out the Sept. 17 patch and people seem to think they are finally getting things fixed.

Considering that you stated you really enjoyed EQ, I would NOT think that Warhammer would be the "game for you." That being said.....IF they ever come out with a TRIAL for the game, you could always give it a "look see."
My personal suggestion, considering what you stated, would be to try EQ2. From what I understand, being I never really played the original EQ, EQ2 is not as complex, BUT....it is much more involved, in my opinion, than say WoW, which you've already stated you can't really get in to.
If you're a crafter....just forget about Warhammer entirely, if you ask me. It's not really a game for people in to the overall world immersion of having a "job" and a "home," etc. and so on.
I pre-ordered WAR, and there are some things I found very enjoyable in the game, however....my gaming background is probably more similar to YOURS, than to most of the people that are presently raving about WAR. It's very PvP centric, although it's not done the same way as say, WoW's PvP, exactly, but it just doesn't seem to have the overall immersion factor to me. The lore is there, but....I didn't really FEEL it. To me it felt more like people fighting because they wanted to fight in a game....if FELT...like a game....not an absorbing world in which I was "living" and "functioning." Do you know what I mean?
But truly....
If you get a chance to TRY any game under the sun in a trial....I think any game warrants trying it out. But paying 50 bucks to find out I'm not all that nuts about the game was sort of disappointing to me. I don't HATE it.....I just don't LOVE it.
So, for me, right now....I'm just going to play until my month is up, so that I feel I got my money's worth, and then back to just WoW and EQ2 and the other games I dabble with.

Thanks. I'll give EQ2 and AoC a try and see how they are. I'm hoping one of the two work out.
Woah woah... I LOVED EQ and thought it was one of the best MMORPGs of my time (still to be debated)...Wasnt that big of a WoW fan, it was just sort of on EZ mode all the time (Kill, grind, kill quest blah blah blah) but War is GREAT. The RVR system is amazing. its so much fun. Its up to you, EQII has two expansions so itll cost more. Id def give war a try
Out of all the options above WAR is the most casual player friendly which is the first thing you pointed out that youll only be playing a couple of hours.
What class is the closest too a shadowknight from EQ? I decided to play WAR and AoC and see which one I like or I might like both.
Well, here is the deal...
* If you ever wondered what the PvP stuff was all about, then this is the place to find out. I was just like you, PvE since 2000 and EQ1. But WAR brings you into it soooo painlessly. You will not regret it. Just take the opportunity to do the Scenarios, and when you get skilled a bit, the Open World RvR.
* If you have been mostly a Solo player, like I was, then you will find out how easy it is to Group up in WAR. As easy as walking into an area and starting to fight. As easy as dropping down a menu on your screen and joining the group of YOUR choice. No LFG. No spamming. No begging. No waiting. It is soooo easy.
Want the old standby Dungeon crawls ala WoW, EQ2, and so forth. Well they are here too. Want the Keep and City sieges of DAoC in open RvR zones? That is here too. Just want to grind for some gear or crafting mats? Yup. Here as well.
Game is ultra-polished. Stable. Full of players. And Fresh.
Want Lore. A whole world of Warhammer Lore is waiting for exploration. And a very cool Tome of Knowledge book to assist in tracking it.
Yes, I would recommend WAR to you.
If you would like to try something a little different.
Good Hunting
Waaagghh !
If your favorite MMO is EQ, I would recommend giving Vanguards free trial a shoot. WAR, on the other hand is a good MMO even though the PvE isnt WAR strongest side.
Good Luck
Well the only thing i can say to a past EQ player (i use to play EQ and EQ2) is that, for me, i always loved pvp, but have found the pve focused games of better quality and a higher fun factor untill war came out.
If you try the game past mabey level 15, theres a decent chance youll know if you really like the RvR, or if you dont.
The thing that really seals the deal for me is that:
1. you can jump right into the action without grinding to endgame and uber equipment sets.
2. choosing to pve or choosing to just rvr (or a combination of the two) will in no way gimp you later on. If you only want to play the RvR scenarios and open field RvR you will get loot, money and xp, just as you would though pve (PQ's regular quests and straight up grinding)
So give the game a try (not sure if they are going to give out any more oppertunities to try before buying) if you like it then play it, if not theres a few pve games that are suppose to be comming out soonish. I wouldnt base your decisions on what others here say based on if they think you will like the game or not. I loved Eq1 and 2 and i love warhammer, its all a matter if this game is your cup of tea, or if it isnt.
Disciple of Khaine is a Melee healer, who is one of the dark powers. In that, they are like a SK. DoK is NOT however a plate class. For that is Chosen, the "Cursed human tank" aspect. Plate class who relies on debuff curse magic but is a melee character. Those are closest to EQ ShadowKnight. And I like others was a fan of EQ1 back in the day, and am now a great fan of WAR.
You should be able to get plenty of WAR evangelists in this thread to convince you how great WAR is and save your gaming soul. It's your money, you know your own likes and dislikes in games, and I would suggest you follow your gut on this. I imagine you're probably an adult and know yourself well enough, that you don't really need any of us to TELL you what to do. You'll figure out what fits you best.
It is costly, regardless of what game you choose, because if you pick one that you end up not liking, then that is just money down the drain. No matter which game you go to....there IS that risk. However, EQ2 has a trial, so do a LOT of other games. WAR doesn't have a trial yet, so....it's going to cost you 50 dollars to try.
I spent 50 bucks on pre-ordering WAR and I WANTED to love it. However...I can't say that I love it at all. It's not a bad game. It's just not the game for me. Not everyone is going to like the same things in a game, and my previous answer was taking in to consideration the things you said in your post about what you like, dislike, and perhaps just don't particularly feel drawn to.
But sure....spend 50 bucks to TRY Warhammer. If you don't like it, you can always go TRY EQ2 or some other game that is closer to your stated preferrences. Afterall....it's ONLY 50 bucks. /rollseyes

Well I went to a local game store and was able to trade in some games I don't play anymore and got WAR fairly cheap. I will give both WAR and AoC a shot for a couple months and see which one I like. Heck, I may end up liking both.
If you look for more of the same, WAR is not a good option. However if you look for something new, different than definitely give it a shot.
Now here is a big one:
WAR can be enjoyed in small increments... You can accomplish things and advance your character in short 30 minute sessions.
Woah I just got to 'i'll give EQ2 and AoC a try'. I wouldn't do either honestly. I wish you played more than a couple hours a night and I would say play FFXI. FFXI is more EQ2 than EQ2 will ever be. Either FFXI or you can give this a try and maybe you will enjoy the RvR/PvP. Honestly though, I would look into FFXI.
Very wise, man....very wise. I wish I had thought to DO that! And you know, I hardly EVER am just playing ONE game. It's not beyond the scope of imagination that people could like both WAR and City of Heroes, or WoW and EQ2, or Guild Wars and AoC, or....heaven forbid.....WoW and WAR!! (zomg noooes!) How can you possibly know for SURE....until you TRY THEM?!
I would like to request more intelligent and objective comments like the one above from Dravok. Who do I email to ask for that? hehehe AHHH...site suggestions board!! jk...I'm a dork...someone nerf my right to type, my big mouth is OP. (I know a lot of people on here agree, so....I'm going to stop posting for 10 minutes.)
