BOYCOTT THE SERVERS THIS WEEKEND

UPDATE:  1:50 PM FRIDAY

Thanks to Mythic for changing their minds on this.   I and alot of other people appreciate it.

DISREGARD MESSAGE BELOW

--------------------------------------------------------

THIS IS A CALL FOR A WEEKEND BOYCOTT OF THE GAME

Mythic has taken the unacceptable action of shutting off access to Warhammer Online just 7 hours after launch date for failure to enter a retail code. This is in direct contradiction to statements posted on their website for months that assured customers who preordered via their “partners” that there would be an adequate grace period to allow for receipt of the game.

This action is preventing MANY players from playing until they receive their game shipments. Companies need to be shown that this type of action is unacceptable to us, the players and paying customers.

Even if you have already received your copy I urge you to join me and others in the action I list below:

DO NOT LOGIN AND PLAY WARHAMMER ONLINE THIS WEEKEND UNTIL MYTHIC REVERSES THIS DECISION.

I ask that you do this in support of all those unable to play due to Mythic’s unethical actions. Let them see ghost towns on all their many servers for the first weekend after launch until this situation is rectified adequately.

I ask ALL of you (Order and Destruction players alike) to join me in this. Please repeat this post and this call on any and all websites (game and guild) until everyone has gotten the word.

I know that many will scoff at this. The lazy, the uncaring, the selfish and the self-involved but that can’t be helped. This situation is just PLAIN WRONG and shouldn’t be allowed to go unchallenged.

My order shipped from California on Wednesday and has to come all the way across country to me in North Carolina. But who knows, maybe it will arrive today while I’m at work and I’ll be perfectly able to play tonight. But I will not play until everyone can play who made a decision in good faith to trust Mythic’s word that it would allow a reasonable grace period.

And lastly, note below Mythic’s own flip attitude to those unable to play due to this:

“Think of it as a good time to stand up, have a stretch, and go out to greet that bright, giant, hot thing in the sky. Don’t forget your shades!”

They shipped the game boxes early to retailers, and most retailers let them out early.  I got my pre-order copy yesterday at Gamestop, around 10 AM.

The retailer you are using, are they using UPS or some other stone age shipping company???

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I bought the box at Best Buy yesterday, and there were plenty of copies on the shelf. I'm playing this weekend, and having fun.

I'd rather chop my own arm off than miss a weekend of playing!  It sucks for cheap ass suckers who picked the slowest shipping possible but its mostly a preventive measure to cut people out of the game who have HS keys but cancelled their pre order.  Think about it we've all seen people who pre ordered to get the keys but have no intention of buying at the moment.

I agree it sucks and its a huge backtrack but honestly..I got my Key, my friends have their keys, so ... screw all the cheapos who didn't get over night or atleast second day.

btw there are no PAYING customers yet...they get 30 days to see who they make happy and who they peeve off and who just generally doesn't give a damn.

You sir, are an idiot. Your mad because they cut you off after the game was released, until such time as you proved you actually bought the game? Well duh. Even though you were only able to play it, FOR FREE, PRE LAUNCH due to the fact that they were nice enough to let you in on it.  This is not a F2P game, and calling for a boycott for such a stupid thing was a waste of your time to type out, and of ours to read it.

I might have an extra CE depending on whether or not my guildie wants to pay the absurd amount of money it costs to ship it from here to Germany or not.

I got my CE copy on tuesday from Amazon. Maybe you should splurge for better shipping.

I don't like your chances mate. I'm sure you have the sympathy of many, but there's not really anything compelling (or even useful) in your 'call to arms'... after all, given that Mythic already has your (and everybody else's) money, it wouldn't make a lot of difference to them how full the servers were this weekend.

And that's assuming that everyone who bought the game and has been itching to play it for months (in some cases years) is so moved by the plight of someone they've never heard of. Even if your cause was a particularly worthy one like ending world poverty or child abuse (which it is not), people still wouldn't boycott... sad but that's the real world for ya.

    Hope your code comes through.

Boycott the servers? Because YOU cant play? Not a chance. The lights around the servers will dim as the masses storm the servers this weekend.

  • HaelixHaelix Member Posts: 116

Oh, and on a side note, genius. If you boycotted the game launch weekend, you'd actually be doing them a favor, decreasings cues and server load for all the people that just bought the game and are itching to play it this weekend, would make their launch weekend go smoother. Now that would really show them.

Started playing about 7 am MST on Thursday,  played off and on all day until about 8pm  that night.  That included logging in and out all day.  Was never denied access and I did not have a retail code.  This morning, Friday, they wanted the retail code.  Lucky for me I picked up my pre order Thursday at lunch.

How long did you think you could play for free?

  • DarkPonyDarkPony Member Posts: 5,566

    Wow, a protest O_O

I guess the OP dreamt about Mythic waging an unethical war in Vietnam

Oh, and no capslock crazy self proclaimed activist will stop me from playing WAR this weekend.

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

I'm slightly disappointed that Mythic did this but no way I'd choose not to play when I have the free time to do so. There are folks in game a bit like you. Empire NPCs called Crazed Flagellants....

Seriously, if you want to do a boycott, ask people to cancel their accounts until your issue has been resolved, what you're trying to do just adds less load on the servers, which means those that do log in won't have to wait in queue and that again means less complaints which will ultimately end up in being good for Mythic.

Though i'm not well-informed on the case i would think 7 hours is much of a reasonable period to enter a retail code, in fact i'd be thrilled to be allowed 7 hours of "free" play until i'd have to enter my retail code.

ok, since the op posted the title in caps, it is clearly a command.

    OP is refering to this:

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/202832

They are working on solutions though.  This from that post:

If you need to play this weekend, all online shippers that I know of will give a full refund if you refuse the shipment when it arrives. You can then go out today and pick up a retail copy to use, but because of this Mythic's first weekend sales will be innacurate. The lady at Amazon.com said she had already talked to many people today regarding this.

Heads up! There are reports that Amazon.com customers will be able to get trial codes to extend the grace period. Someone at warhammeralliance.com said they will be available after 11am today so if you are with Amazon.com call and try to get a trial code. I haven't confirmed this, but it seems legit because a number of people are talking about it.

This is from an IGN thread.

    Quote:

    The "Warhammer" phone number is

    703-934-0169

call them and get the extension code ... after 11AM EST Again this is unconfirmed, but the phone number is some kind of Warhammer support line.
