Is it really worth getting?

Just wanting to know if it is worth getting. I am an adamant MMO fan, but from what I've heard (from haters and fanbois alike) have had me wavering between getting it and not getting it. Is there a way to try the game before actually buying it (like WoW's 10 day trial) or do you have to splurge the money to even try it. I don't mind spending the money but I will have to wait for my next check, tuition and rent are killing meh.

I will admit though, if this game has the potential to rip me away from WoW, which won't be too hard I presume since my account has been down since May due to increasing boredom, I will definitely drop the money to try it out.

Please use honest answers with how you personally feel about the game. I would rather hear about what you think about it rather than what the several reviewers of one day play feel. Give me the lowdown on what you think and I will make a decision from there.

Thanks in advance.

Yes get the Game.....only way you will not like this game is if you only like sandbox games, or Asian grinders.

    playing: Dragon Age
    Waiting: for FF14, Mass Effect
    Want to try: Fallen Earth

Well Lineage 2 IS what got me into MMO's, so I have no problem grinding. Also didn't mind Perfect World or 2moons... BUT if there is no grind, even better!

i can only speak for my self here. But i find this game really fun to play, pretty easy and tons of action so far. For that price you will have alot of fun =), if u know what the game is about, its not hardcore pve, its all about pvp/rvr encounters, and thats what you get!

I see so many haters that complains about the pve is so lame etc, almost every mmo have the same as war. Quest, grind, bosses. So i dont really see what is so bad in this game ? In the end its all about rvr, if u dont like it then this game aint for u.

ok man here's the skinny, I also was a big wow fan played from beta to earlier this summer on and off ..

But I have since closed my account and bid farewell to everyone on WoW .. hopefully forever ..

this game is much more intense from the start than WoW ever was .. the whole environment is made to put you in a sense that there is a War going on and you are a part of it ..

your participation counts for something here .. something that lasts ..

I have found nothing that  has me thinking about going back to WoW in this game .. every aspect seems to be a entertaining

yes there is some polishing  that needs to be done but this game is definitely the best PvP game out there ..

There is no reason to play WoW with this game on the market.   This game is what World of Warcraft was advertised to be before Blizzard hijacked it and turned it into a PvE raidfest with a PvP afterthought.   All of your WoW accomplishements and gear are going to be obsolete, yet again, by green items in the new expansion coming out.   The new expansion doesn't address the PvP scene enough to make it a viable PvP game.

This is a game centered around PvP, with a PvE afterthought.  Even if you buy this game and stop playing WoW, and later decide you don't like it, what have you missed out on?   You will miss some raids that would give you gear that is going to be obsolete in 2 months.

The only thing is, in WoW I was the GM of a fairly successful raiding guild, so raiding was/is what I love. Don't get me wrong though, I love to melt face in pvp as much as I love to coordinate and be successful while raiding.

And recently, the developers at Blizz have been really messing with classes PvE balance for PvP balance, and PvP viability for PvE, though more of the former. They also give in to all the players who are crying about everything that doesn't make their class overpowered.

A good question for this game is: Do you think this game will be more catered toward hardcore gamers or casuals? My opinion is that PvP is not for casuals, they will only get minimal gear and only get frustrated when they lose because they are not always on. As long as they keep balance around the core of the game (read: PvP/RvR) I think I will more than likely give this game a go.

the game plays very well for both play styles.. the casuals can come in play a few scenarios then quit .. being just as viable as anyone else .. the hardcores will advance and out level them thus putting themselves out of conflict with the casuals

The chance to play a new MMO game like WAR was last week during open beta when websites like MMORPG.com were giving away thousands of Open Beta keys.   Like all MMOS including WoW if you want to Try before you buy you'll have to wait until probably next year most games don't offer a free trial during their first 3 to 6 months.

There is no buddy key system at this time no idea if one is in the works they've never talked about this system to my knowledge.

I think its worth getting but to be honest thats from a fan stand point.  If your big into realm and working as a team and your not some solo fighter in PvP you'll probably enjoy WAR.   Also end game is very realm depedant its a public activity as are just about everything else.  The game thrives on everything being 'public' non exclusive easy to group and pound away at even in PvP.  If your lookkng for a game that thrives on guilds & community WAR is the place to be.

If your looking for PvE raids turn back now.....while they have PvE the game's central focus is on the RvR / PvP Aspect the PvE is a fun activity for down time and a way to get some quick cash, do some fun achievements (unlocking trophies & items to wear to customize the look of your char ), and gear (though you can easily do that in PvP too).

If your looking for ganking...turn back now

If your looking for full player looting & harsh death penalties .. turn back now

IF your looking for serious hardcore crafting & housing turn back now.

If your looking for photo realistic graphics that make your eyes bleed like Crysis or Age of Conan and you don't like a stylized art style - turn back now.

If you enjoy PvP its one of the better PvP games out there at the moment. I worked hard to give an unbiased, comprehensive and even handed Warhammer review (Read it HERE)

Its still too early to say with certainty "Yes or No" but I wager that most players who enjoy MMORPGs ought to give WAR a try. Else hey will always wonder if they 'missed it'

Hmm good question very good.  To be honest the Dev's aren't catering to anyone more than someone else.  Their philosphy is Realm not guild, not solo player but realm so the whole game is sort of built around what your entire Realm is doing.   There's activities to satsify casuals, hardcores, and the inbetweens.  There's no activity in WAR essentially that is 'exclusive' yes it may take longer for some people to do some of those activities but everyone can do them.

Take Keep Sieging for instance  hardcores will likely be the ones to constantly hold or fight for the keeps & fortresses but casuals will be the back up to defend or take them down.  ITs an open battlefield if a hardcore guild goes in to Siege casuals who are in the area are likely to show up and be that extra random fighter that could turn the tide in your favor.

City Sieging is another great example here.  It takes more than a single guild to prep a whole server for a Siege.  Once the city is captured any casuals that log on during or after the main fight can easily come and participate get gear, get rewards and generally enjoy pwning a city for 12 to 24 hours that the city is in their control.

Dungeons -  They're public...the entire realm has access and they are not 'private' instances.  Only the final boss fight is..expect to always have plenty of random people down there doing the public quests that run inside the dungeons.

If your looking for punishment on casual playing WAR is not a good idea for you...casuals will earn RvR gear just like everyone else if they're doing scenarios & open battlefield objectives the game is pretty much set up to make grouping & warbanding a peice of cake.

When you say RvR don't just think PvP...think Realm..think PUblic...think Everyone.   No one is getting left out of the activites (though joining a guild is the best way to experience the game in my opinion).

IMO, there is no way you're not going to get 50 bucks of entertainment from buying the box, and playing the first month.

After that, 14.95 for the next month is a bargain.

There's a couple of reasons not to try it. You want the bleeding edge graphics of AoC. WAR doesn't have that, but the graphics are just fine IMO. Obviously you can look at screen shots for that one.

The other reason, you like to solo in WoW, while you chat in the global chat channel. WAR isn't like that, as far as I can tell, so if that's how you like to play an MMORPG, WAR may not work.

Also, if you just HATE PvP, and never want to do it. The PvE game is fun, but it's not enough to justify buying the game if you're going to skip ALL of the PvP.

But if those things don't apply to you, buy the box.

To answer your first question; I don't think it is.  At first I thought the game was pretty good.  It met my expectations (because they were grounded) but after awhile, it just lost me.  Mind you, these are just my own personal impressions.  My problem was that the game felt a bit too much like WoW.  I realized, though, that this could be due to me being tired with level-based games and the fantasy setting.  Its pacing is a little slower than WoW, but that's no biggy like the trolls make you think.  I would challenge other aspects of the game, but that would be challenging the genre of MMOs.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, because I think I've either gotten tired of the MMO  market in general or just tired with the lack of innovation.  I think it is the latter more than the former, which is unfortunate.  Had WAR come out a year or two ago, it would've been the perfect MMO for me.  My tastes have changed since then I guess.  If you're perfectly fine with the current MMO market, I think you'll enjoy WAR just fine.

I believe your second question was already answered.  I think WAR is setup to be very friendly towards casuals and hardcores alike.  If it truly isn'y a gear based game, casuals will stand a chance at endgame while hardcore will still maintain the edge they like to "work" for.

Just a disclaimer to any possible rabid fanboys of these forums.  These are my personal opinions and expressions of the game.  Don't come here, quote me, and try to refute what I've said.  It is simply a matter of "mileage will vary."  Some will people will enjoy this game, others won't.  Some will praise it, some will give their concerns or reasons for disliking it, and some will flame it for their rabid hate (of a game no less).  Sorry for getting off topic, just tired of reading these forums and seeing people's OPINIONS get argued over like they had stated them as fact.

If Fury or DAOC was your thing, go for it. If Planetside with swords and spells appeals to you, go for it.

The only real thing it has going for it is its RvR, which, isn't saying much. I'm not a big fan of "retaking the keep" 50,000 times.  Especially if there's no balance (like in DAOC) where one side dominates most of the time.

LOL, I was talking to my uncle about the game because I played the beta, and was like..I could get the same crap gameplay on DAOC :p

Let me put it this way.  I don't plan on playing this game past WOTLK release.

It was still worth every penny.  Fun game.  Yes it is worth a shot.  If you like PvP, definitely.  Even if it isn't for you, which seems to be what I am feeling, it is a fun break from your usual routine.  I've tried other MMOs at release, and none of them were this much fun save EQ2 and WoW.

Is it overhyped?  Perhaps, but you don't have to worry about wasting money.  You will have a good time.

Note I say this after waiting through long queues and having it crash out on me twice already.  Still worth trying out.

I think you should get the game to try it.. I played it in early close beta and they made somehting that stand on his feet.. Its not much (still buggy and lots of features not added yet) but its worth trying.. and if you buy the game.. that mean, in there head, more people wanna play that game and they will add more developer. wich will improve the game alot faster.

    Go now and get it

I have been very close to going out and buying it today purely because I have no games to play at the moment.

I have now decided not to.

I have played the other 2 games that EA released recently both of which were quite bad.

Spore: Probably not targeted towards me but still nowhere near as good as the hype made it out to be.  This was basically 5 games in 1 and didn't do any of them very well.

Mercenaries 2: OMG this was awful.  A horrendous console port, can't believe they let this release in such bad state for pc.  They obviously made next to no effort to make it playable on the pc.

WAR sounds like it might entertain me a few days but I'm not sure I want to give any money to EA so that they can continue to produce such appalling dumbed down rubbish.

Purchasing it would make me feel dirty.  I don't want to encourage devs to continue making mmo's that are so limited.

How EA can churn out such garbage, have massive sales and still not make a profit is beyond insanity.  Terrible company.
